Many times while trying to compose music I think "Oh the top artists do so well and my ideas fall through" but seeing you make mistakes and correct them, or go a different route that leads to something better is awe inspiring and confidence boosting. Suggestion for a course that I would like to see: String arrangement and production for pop and rock music. I think there could be a lot of guys like me who like orchestral elements, but don’t intend to become a media composer or do full orchestral scoring. I mostly do singer-songwriter stuff myself and have tried doing a string arrangement to a song once, but without prior knowledge it was a pita and took ages. So a short course on how to arrange strings in a song context , how to make them halfway decent with MIDI and mix them would be great. I’d buy that immediately. And if that works out, why not continue with brass for funk/soul or woodwinds for , eh, folk? As far as I can see that is a niche in the market that hasn’t been occupied, at least I haven’t found anything. Most orchestral course are overkill for me.

Being in the same boat as you, (I produce mostly singer/songwriter etc) I would definitely find some value in a course like that! But in the meantime try using the same techniques but applied to the more conventional chord progressions of pop music. And maybe lean a bit less on some of the more orchestral elements. Perhaps trying Mellotron strings in place of ‘real’ ones, and glocks/Rhodes/synth plucks in place of some more percussive orchestra sounds.

That is one of THEEE BEST How-to-videos I've watched for a long time. I absolutely love the freshness, the gags, the way he talks. (Love that british accent) Just started with "The secret to what Chords Work", the intro is hillarious. Nice dog by the way. Sir, you just made yourself a new subscriber.

The Devils Triad ... Always works ... in one way or another ... Splendid stuff Mr Michelmore !!! Basically , one has to have an understanding of the sonic range of orchestral instruments before anything else ... very, very important.

I can't express how inspiring your videos are to me. It's not just watching how you do things right, although that's highly instructive. It's also seeing you make mistakes, and how you go about fixing them. I love your playful spirit, and the fearlessness with which you cast off the sunglasses of doubt and come up with something amazing in such a short time. You make it look effortless, which anyone who's ever put two notes together knows it's not. Watching your videos is like sitting next to a world-class composer who also happens to be a good friend. Thanks and please keep doing what you do. :)

Hey Guy, could you do a tutorial on how to properly use the wheels on the side of the keyboard as a volume fader? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You could assign different CC values to your switches (volume being CC11). This is how you do it on Logic Pro: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5e9gGqclrJre9E
