I noticed this little detail: during the stone breaking contest, notice that Durin cuts each and every stone perfectly in half every time. A nice clean cut, whereas Elrond just seems to shatter his stones. While they are on semi-equal footing in strength, the dwarves are far more precise when it comes to cutting stone.

The Southlands is Nurn, Mordor’s southern region. When Sauron took over, the people who were residing there became the Dark Lord’s slaves throughout the Second and Third Ages, growing crops to feed Sauron’s legions. So, we already know the fate of those who dwell there in the show.

Well the Southlands for Season 1 is shown to be what eventually will be Gondor, Mordor, Nurn and just east of Mordor. Basically everything South of the Elven Kingdom of Gil-Galad is the "Southlands" just below the Misty Mountains or where Isengard will be. Edit: You can see this on one of the maps as The Southlands has part of the text extending over Gondor.

I'd have an issue with this being Gandalf mainly due to the fact that he arrived in the Third Age not the second, although it would be an interesting plot device and maybe they could spin it around, with Gandalf formally arriving as Gandalf the Gray in the Third Age, but in-formally arriving near the Harfoots during the 2nd age, that would also explain his fondness of hobbits.

The Lord of the Rings Online actually has part of it's Story involving the Second Age with Gandalf in Middle-Earth and helping to fight against Sauron in the guise of an Elf. This is apart of the Minas Morgul Expansion which was added to LOTRO in 2019. He has his memories of this hidden as he was also tortured by Sauron before his defeat & losing the One Ring and he later recovers these memories as apart of the story. While there is no proof to say they used that as inspiration, it wouldn't be the first time Gandalf was in the Second Age in a LOTR Setting.

@@cejannuzi It would be very odd if it were Tom. Rings of Power is pretty much using Key Characters for key plot points along with their Filler Characters. Sauron is a schemer in the Second Age. He might be planning his time, finding his chess pieces, and identifying potential foes. If Sauron is Halbrand, he might've given up his goals of conquest as he once tried to repent. However, the statement Gil-Galad stated that Galadriel's obsession to hunt down the evil she is hunting might awaken evil itself. Therefore, her conversations with Halbrand (Sauron) might accidentally make him reconsider being the next Dark Lord. Sauron Schemes Theories 1. "Halbrand's" experience in Numenor might help him understand its weaknesses. 2. Adar took over the orc legions in the Southlands. 3. "Halbrand" will confront Adar and shed his disguise. 4. Sauron will use his powers to turn the Southlands into Mordor. - There is a scene in which Galadriel awakens from a village covered in fire and ash. - Sauron might've used his magic to terraform the Southlands into Mordor. 5. Sauron now knows Galadriel is an enemy. 6. He will take note of Celebrimbor's activities and plan his takeover of Numenor. However, I am still convinced that Halbrand is the Witch King, not Sauron. Nazgul Theory 1. Theo's blade might be a Morgul Blade and there are theories that Theo will become a warrior who will later be corrupted into a Nazgul. It is interesting how the powerful civilizations of elves, dwarves, and men gradually diminished during the Second Age. 1. Fall of Numenor 2. Fall of Khazad-Dum

Two episodes in; I was initially concerned about this show because the makers didn't really have many rights over the base material. But this is still actually enjoyable. @@Ryan-the-Rocketeer Doubtful the Stranger is Sauron. There are a good amount of hints why this is. First the Fire: It's not hot to Nori yet burning everything around it, if this was Sauron why would he be worrying about not hurting others. The Stranger using marks are usually looking like an F just extended a bit. If one adds 4 dots around that symbol, that would be the Rune for G which Gandalf uses as his mark at Weathertop to let Frodo & Strider know he had been there. Stranger is interacting with the Ancestors of what will later be known as Hobbits, which is only a Gandalf thing among the Istari. Compared to the hints of Sauron and a big one is the "black goo" which is killing things, actively making them weak, diseased, etc. Then the Stranger which only when he "uses his Powers" that it has an effect on his surroundings. This would line up with the Books to an extent in terms of Gandalf being "weary" after using parts of his Powers and likely the show is taking this a step forward. The Movies showed beings such as Gandalf and Galadriel being "extremely tired/exhausted" after uses of their Powers especially in the Hobbit Movies. The Stranger using their Powers is using of strength from those affected such as himself, the fire flies and the stick that breaks than breaks Nori's dad's leg. Likely this will not be as much of a factor once the Stranger has more of a handle on their Powers and it'll then just "weary" him instead of affecting those around him.

The mystery of The Stranger is really intriguing me. Sauron? (I don't think it is) Gandalf? (may be too obvious but would thrill me anyhow), Saruman? (first of the Isatri to arrive?), Radagast or one of two Blue Wizards(from the appendencies)? I LOVE not knowing but I want to know soon! I think the orcs were digging with their claws, they may have even been created just for that purpose with elongated nail/claws. I like a show that doesn't feel the need to answer all questions in the same ep they pose them. We have the time. Let us wonder a bit. I think it's quite obvious by now that those behind Rings of Power have no problem ignoring the source material, or re-writing it into wholly new conceptions, many very contrary to what Tolkien created. After more rewatches there are several callbacks/flashbacks to Nori touching the stranger. We are supposed to get that something at that moment was connected or shared. Some of the strangers power may have been transferred and this is is part of their connection. The "if any thing bad happens" also suggest "next 3 seasons" which I believe this series is expected to have 4 seasons. I think this is foretelling also that "blame" of helping the stranger. There is a repeated idea of "can you be blamed for helping the enemy". This comes up later with Galadriel and Theo again. I think the Hilt also shows that blood can make indestructible metal. Which may come in handy when trying to make an indestructible ring. And Adar tells us later "only blood can bind".
@seralizejonck70732 жыл бұрын
Halbrand looks way too much like Aragon's ancestor, and I don't think the producers did that on purpose. Also, there were wizards in the 2nd age known as Blue Wizards. Sauron will be taking form as Annatar, "Lord of Gifts" and trick the elves into forging the rings (in the guide to middle earth he is described as probably of the Eldar elves). Not sure if the character is already in the background of the series and if the producers will be changing this storyline. Olórin is Gandalf's original name, and he was one of the oldest Istari, however, the 2 wizards who made an appearance in the 2nd age would've been Alatar and Pallando. Could the stranger be Tom Bombadil? And it is definitely possible for Legolas to make an appearance, right? And where is Celeborn?!?

Honestly I don't see where all the hate is with this show, the ambiance feels like middle earth, the acting is so far decent, pacing could use a bit of work but again it's the first two episodes of a Tolkien inspired Epic, I mean of course we'd get some whiplash getting thrown from place to ace to set up all the various stories. Other than that the elephant in the room, the so called "forced" diversity in the show does not seem as bad as many make it out to be, I read both the Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings almost ten years ago and Honestly I don't remember it anywhere said that everyone was supposed to be white or a certain ethnicity but that's just me. Another part of the criticism saying they've gone woke and all that stuff and again I personally did not see it, do far the most fleshed out character is Galadriel and I'm invested in her story, some say she's a Mary Sue a la Rey from star wars but why? I mean she's spent centuries fighting and training so I don't see a problem there, she's bossed around a little bit but never because she's a woman just because she's stubborn and insubordinate which as far as we've seen (regardless of her being right or wrong) is true so yeah. All in all I'm enjoying it so far.
@bertellijustin63762 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Elves are actually described as being “fair” in the sense of paleness first and beauty only second. The only two physical traits seen to seperate the elvish tribes was their hair and eye colors with the emphasis on their hair. Elf literally means “white one” when translated and Eldar also literally means pale. So we do have canonic descriptions of elves, what would probably surprise more people is that the main differences between elves and men physically wasn’t their ears…..elves only had a slightly “elvish” ear according to Tolkien and men could easily be mistaken for elves if they were too fair or ethereal in build. “Diversity” among the human races makes sense. Humans like to travel in the real world and in tolkiens world. Makes sense you’d see “eastern” men and other non-Anglo races if maybe in smaller numbers. Dwarves now, that’s a tough one. It’s never mentioned how their skin looks, but we do know there were at least two of the seven/eight clans that came from the east. And we know the eastern men didn’t necessarily look like the western men, which is keeping with ME essentially being “European”. It could make sense for those clans to look differently from the clans to the west. Now the problem here is that every clan is descended from a father and mother dwarf except for Durin the Deathless’ own clan. I assume he married a daughter of one of the other six “founding pairs”. So they could be a mix of western and eastern dwarves perhaps, BUT this would mean the whole clan would be “biracial” as opposed to individuals being pure black or white. Also for me a big one, the lack of bearded female dwarves is just silly. Dwarves are born bearded and when seen by other races were difficult to tell apart. And if a dwarf lost their beard they could “die from shame”, It’s as annoying and as “unrealistic” (in the logic of the fictional universe) as “knights” wearing opened face helms in every medieval movie so we can see the actors face. Annoying, not a deal breaker but it takes me out of the moment when I see it. As for Galadriel, her powers were always primarily in the realm of magic. And elves don’t generally wear plate armor in any of tolkiens works, with most armor being described as chain or mail of one type or another. But again artistic license here has been seen since Peter Jackson’s movies. Lots of plate armor to be seen through out. But Tolkien did loosely base the “tech” of ME off of our own medieval period, so that would reinforce the mail and scale over plate armor again. Anyway, as for Galadriel being a warrior of sword and plate, that seems unlikely as magic was what she was always known for, she fought a lot during the second age yes, but we never see it said she wore a full suit of armor and got into melees. More like she nukes evil with her awesome powers as the oldest Elf on middle earth. She isn’t a young impulsive elf by the time of this series. She’s a mother, a wife and a powerful magic user. Which they completely seem to have forgotten making this series. They should have created a new character to be a bad ass swordswoman a la Tuariel, instead of shoehorning the most powerful magic user on middle earth into lowly man at arms, skilled but still just a man at arms like any other.
@bertellijustin63762 жыл бұрын
I did forget the 8th clan, which is a mix of all of the evil dwarves from the other 7 clans but I think they were mostly wiped out by the elves by this point in the history.

The man on the raft may be Elendir or an ancestor of the Numenorian. He appears to embody the "always hope" trope, so the writers are saying he is Elendir or an ancestor. Amazon does not own the rights to the second era (silmarillion and lost tales). Human swimming on a raft is Sauron, and homless dude from the sky is Gandalf. "Also the fact we get to see galadriel fight right out of episode 1" is like getting punch in the face. Jesus Christ, showrunners should be put on trial for creating this abomination of warrior princess Galarrhea vel "I want to see the manager!"

I find funny how everyone is trying to make up what's what basing their assumptions on tolkien's material when it's very clear that this show don't really follow it all. Ok, we know it's Celembrimbor who's going to create the 9 rings but for the rest... anything might happen.

She was using the constellation for both navigation and probably reassurance. The constellations, and that one in particular, are sacred to the Elves. It was put in place in the far North to mark Melkor's location and serve as warning to him. The moment these constellations were created was when the elves woke for the first time, and Varda, who made them, is the Elves' favorite Valar. This I think is a perfect example of how they are able to make reference to things in the Silmarillion that actual open-minded fans can enjoy without actually stating them and being sued. To me, they're doing a great job of walking that line.

That thing that makes me believe the strange man is Gandalf is that in Hobbits and LotR gandalf would sometimes show how much he knows about hobbits and his love and trust in them exceeds any interest he has shown on other kinds. And it will makes sence if he was once saved by the kind where hobbits came from.

My guess is that the object in the chest is mithriel. Also, the man from the sky might be Galdalf, but that seems too obvious. Maybe another wizard was flung out by the Maiar. Almost like an angel expelled from Heaven. This would be a new character.

Halbrand can't become one of the Nazgul because they're made of up of Kings who took the rings from Sauron and he doesn't seem like he's a king nor do I think he's Sauron. I don't think the man who fell from the sky is Sauron either as he'd have a dark presence and would know who he is plus Sauron wouldn't look so grungy.
@IlluviumGaming2 жыл бұрын
I mean, given how long it took to make the rings, it's impossible for any living man to become one of the Nazgul, but who's to say Halbrand won't become a king in the future? Especially with foreshadowing from the conversation from Galadriel asking if it was the king's symbol, him saying his lands have no king, and him also being from the same region Arondir is in where a kid talks about their king returning. It's certainly possible these are all red herrings but assuming we disregard the significant passing of time (which the show MUST do for the Harfoots to have any significance at all), there's no reason Halbrand can't become a king and then a Nazgul.

Fabulous recap and breakdowns for both episodes. And thanks for minimal spoilers. I don’t want to know what’s coming. My first thought on the stranger is it was Gandalf but that might be too much fan service. But he could be one of the Maia (spelling?), a similar character to Gandalf. Sauron and Gandalf might be too obvious. It’s taking me a while,to warm up to Galadriel, warrior elf, cause she was so worldly and calm in the main LOTR films and books (from what I recall). But that wisdom and calmness could have been developed over the thousands of years she’s been around. But again, why didn’t she fight in the movies or books. But so far really enjoying the show. Wish I could binge it but oh well.

Im 99.9% sure that wizard who crash landed is suaron. The impact crater even looks like saurons eye. Everytime he is on screen we here the whispers same when someone wears saurons ring. The tall guy even fits saurons armor perfectly. His magic litteraly kills the fireflies. They couldnt give us more clues without litteraly spelling it out his name, for now he credited as "the stranger".
