I genuinely enjoyed this premier. It’s the first episode of anything TWD that I objectively enjoyed, without the bias of being a 15 year fan consumed by the sunk-cost fallacy. That said, the bit with Codron and Michel was really well done. It was perfectly reminiscent, without being forced and too on the nose, of Daryl finding walker Merle and reluctantly putting him down. The open location, the reveal, the hesitation and the way Codron holds Michel back similar to how Daryl kept pushing Merle away, and then the regretful and reluctant but inevitable end complete with similar reactions and even the ugly cry facial expressions.

I wonder if the kid will be immune. In TLOU series they confirmed that Ellie's immunity came from the fact that her mother was infected while she was still attached to the umbilical cord. Which transferred just enough of the infection to build an immunity in Ellie. They could be doing the same thing here. I'm conflicted though because I like the theory idea that Rick is immune due to his circumstances at the start of the show and how we know the virus works. Rick is basically hooked up to machinery keeping him alive and the theory is that he actually died in the hospital but the virus reanimated him. It would make Rick extremely unique as he'd be potentially the only person to ever just fully come back to life from the virus, conscious and memories included. But then there's also Alicia from fear that implies radiation exposure prior to being bitten offers at least temporary immunity. Though they left her final scene open ended as to whether or not she's alive.
@realapoapo1737 Жыл бұрын
But this is not a virus. ITS a alien spore that already exist a Century ago
@jordanwhite352 Жыл бұрын
The show makes it sound like that. The importance of the kid is that he is a intellectual silvant which means that he would be a great candidate to lead and build a new society rather than any sort of immunity or something with the actual virus.
@jonfreeman9682 Жыл бұрын
Yes his mom was infected with zombie virus but the amniotic fluids in the womb protected him and he developed a natural immunity. The anti zombie antibiotics is in his body and is the key to a cure or at least a vaccine to prevent further spread. The whole looking for and building a settlement is done to death. We need a new story angle.

It seems this show is conceptually inspired or influenced by the comic “The Walking Dead: The Alien”. The European location, the focus on sea travel, the use of medieval armor and weaponry, and the presence of a character with a connection to Rick attempting to travel across the Atlantic. I’m hoping they’ll introduce the main character of “The Alien” in an episode of Daryl Dixon. That character being Jeff Grimes, Rick’s younger brother and childhood friend of Lori. First, Jeff does exist in the show as he is casually mentioned by Lori in season two, also Isabelle mentions that the last person she contacted via the radio was someone in Spain and Jeff was trapped in Barcelona when the outbreak began. I think it would be awesome for Daryl to encounter Jeff get to know him and tell him all about Rick and then have the story play out like the comic but with Daryl in the role of Claudia. Basically Jeff meets Daryl, the work together to find a way back to America, they bond, Jeff ends up sacrificing himself to save Daryl and as he’s dying ask Daryl to tell Rick about him. I think it would work, especially because it plays into the whole brotherhood theme and how that’s always been important to Daryl. It’s already fairly prevalent in the show so far, for example Daryl is on a quest for answers which is similar to his years long quest to find Rick, Daryl undoubtedly sees Rick as a brother, Merle is a big part of Daryl, he’s already spoke about Merle and been asked about his siblings by Isabelle, Isabelle similarly had a close sister, and Daryl plays a role in killing Michel who is Codron’s brother, Cordron discovers Michel in a scene near identical to Daryl finding dead Merle, and he now wants revenge on Daryl. Not to mention the sisterhood of the nuns. The sibling theme is strong so far, and an appearance by Rick’s bother would be fitting.

12:41 I feel like Laurent is immune to walkers that's why walkers don't even run after him. Noticed it in the ep2 trailer too. And since you broke down the story here perfectly so it could be possible that Laurent's mother was Isabelle's sister and she became a walker before giving birth to her child Laurent and that could be some sort of the reason that he's immune to walkers. But still it makes no sense to me that this could actually work or be a thing in the walking dead universe!

Even the colour pallet in which the spin offs are shot with. Watch the original series of the walking dead and everything had this grey or greenish moody colour pallet especially in the earlier seasons. Now everything looks so much more bright and vibrant with new locations like they aren't afraid to try new things. This and the dead city show were a refreshing break from what felt like a stale formula. I hope they keep this stride going and nail the landing with the Rick Grimes show.

How can we watch it in the UK, Disney doesn't seem to want us to see this or dead city?
