I love that they added that last scene in. It didn’t happen in the books, but it’s more realistic for how women who were friends in their youth would want to handle it; they would both be angry and hurt but deep down they know the other isn’t evil. We get to see Alicent actually realize she made a mistake, but quickly tell herself it doesn’t matter if she did or not because it’s past the point where anything can be fixed. I think when she goes back to saying “there was no mistake” it’s either because she needs to tell herself that out of the guilt from the blood already shed and all the death about to come because of how badly she did want Aegon named heir, or she meant “there was no mistake” as in, it was always going to happen this way; whether or not she hears Viserys say Aegon or not.

That scene isn't in the books because it's stupid and illogical (George definitely didn't approve of that scene). Way too much blood has been shed on both sides for diplomacy, these are vengeful characters why would Rhaenerya sue for peace with Alicent if she has every intention of executing Aemond for killing Luc, do you really think Alicent would let that happen? Or even Aegon who just lost his son, how about Daemon executing every Green faction member for allegedly killing his brother and taking the throne? This is why that scene is stupid.

There’s some major holes that poke through the theory that Alys could be Melisandre, mainly that it’s pretty heavily implied that Melisandre had never been to Westeros before until she went to serve Stannis. Much of her arc/perspective centers around Westeros being a strange land to her and it wouldn’t be strange if she had been there before or had been there the entire time since the time of The Dance. That and in her pov chapter in the books, she talks about how she had been practicing her craft for longer than she can count and Westeros, due to the attitudes that the maesters, septons, and Andals in general have around magic and R’hllorism, would be probably the worst place to do that effectively and efficiently. Her being a shadowbinder means that she spent most of her time practicing on the other side of the world in Asshai (hence her full name) and as a result, was most likely there or near there during this time period. She really has no business or reason to be in Westeros until she went to serve Stannis so she is not Alys. It doesn’t fit her story arc or what we know of her history.

In the scene at Harrenhall when Lord Strong asks Daemon "What's next" after raising the army at the Riverlands then responds with surprise when the only response is "We take King's Landing," I didn't take that as Strong being obtuse. To me, it sounded like disgust at the bourgeois aristocracy still thinking only of themselves and having no other plan for the realm than taking back, by force and at great expense to the small folk, the seat of power so they could continue doing exactly what the other guy on the throne is already doing now. It sounded to me like "Really, that's your WHOLE plan, like nothing of substance or contribution to anyone whatsoever? Why even support you?" And when Rhaena is sent off with the little guys and the baby dragons and the dragon eggs, it seems like it finally sinks in for her how important her role in this war really is and what she is being trusted to do. Is anyone else irritated AF about the missed opportunity in the sept when Rhaenyra elects NOT to explain the whole prophecy to Alicent, which might THEN make a difference in stopping this war? No, she only listens for what matters to her and leaves Alicent in the dark, which results in Alicent doubling down on her current position. Rhaenyra had all the power in this situation to form an alliance by explaining the full story on why something greater and existential at stake and she refuses, now disaster is inevitable. To me, that moment is the point of no return in this whole story. For the record, I'm still not on either side. They all brought this stupid war on themselves, Rhaenyra included, and it's not like one aristocrat over another makes any difference at all for all the civilians stuck living under these stupid monarchies. I'm just here to root for the dragons.

I enjoyed this. One thing I would mention - I think it is meaningful that Damon wants to be called Your Grace. Are there now three contenders for the throne? I haven't read the books, so I couldn't say. But it's an interesting development if that's Damon's intention.

I think his insistence on the usage of proper titles is to demonstrate he's still loyal to Rhaenyra's cause as opposed to being against it. I personally would just prefer as a story that the selfish man we meet in episode 1 boldly sitting on the throne himself, hoping to be the heir instead of an Uncle, now sincerely fights to place Rhaenyra's butt on that same throne instead of his own, even when she's angry at him, while still remaining true to his inner Rogue. Character growth and all.

10:15 Bastards are given their names by the place they grew up in, not the place they were born. The Sand-Snakes are als sands while half of them weren't born in Dorne. Jon is known to be born south, but still bears the name Snow. Brynden Rivers is born in Kings Landing, but doesn't have the name Waters. (Edit: It's of course Brynden not Brandon)

@serenas.38426 ай бұрын
@@leykimayri definitively the place they grew up. Brynden Rivers (Bloodraven) is Aegon IV Bastard. If it had anything to do with the father, he would be a Waters. Edit: There is also Edric Storm, who should be a Flower if it's for the mothers or a Water if it's for the fathers (seeing that Robert is king at this point and Bastards from the crown lands are Waters).

Alys River implying that Daemon will die at Harrenhal means as far as I can see, that the series will make Daemons death official. In the book, Daemons body cant be found, after he fough Aemond at God's eye. As both of their dragons die in the sea, while Daemon put his sword through Aemonds eye and killed him. But he on the other hand, is completely gone, no one can find him so we have no idea whether he died or survived. But she said Daemon would die at Harrenhal, which might confirm his death.

It's hit or miss sometimes when they deviate from the books, but I for one was JAZZED when Rhaenerya went to speak to Alicent. Anytime they are on screen together I am riveted to it. My favorite thing about the episode was Alicent's brother, I LOVE that actor so much. He's delightfully snarky and smarmy in other things so I look forward to his inclusion. The other thing I enjoyed very much was Rhaenys, I absolutely love her character. It was cool to see Rhaenerya looking to her for advice, the Queen Who Never Was. Wouldn't it be cool if Rhaenys got to be Rhaenerya's hand instead of Corlys???

He likely writes his commentary as he watches and prepares footage available for download as soon as the episode drops on Max so he can do basic raw editing along with some pre prepared assets in the editing software, he can put together this video rather shortly after.
