I've watched hours and hours of Weinstein brothers, and was tuned in to them before Eric coined the term Intellectual Dark Web...i've appreciated Eric tremendously for his mathematical mind etc and never really thought about how someone could take issue with his approach - UNTIL RIGHT NOW - I never knew who "Sam Seder" was when it came out of Eric's mouth and since Michael Brooks passed away I've jumped in deep to this channel...seeing this defense of using the phrase "psychopathic troll" has blown me away and I suppose i've now punched my ticket on the Sam Seder train for life b/c the "ideas" he's expressing are of utmost importance to me: intellectual honesty, consistency, the ability to be wrong, thoroughness and most of all the courage to debate, there doesn't seem to be anyone that Sam would refuse to debate and to me this is a prerequisite for being an "intellectual"

But surely, you understand that a person like that (Weinstien) is unwilling to engage somebody like Sam because there might be merit to their arguments, which would make Weinstien look less intelligent. This was the only kind of engagement Sam was ever going to get from a member of the IDW, so he settled for petty feud. Remember, it's an echo chamber they operate in. The whole purpose of Sam trying to get under their skin is to attempt to disrupt the echo, and expose their viewers to alternative perspectives. The IDW keeps it petty so they don't have to engage on real issues.

In fact, the day of absence was voluntary, and he emailed the school’s mailing list a rant about how the day was an example of reverse racism, then nothing happened for two months. In this time, two black people were arrested on trumped-up charges, and, two months after the email incident, a protest of this arrest took place in a quad near where he happened to be teaching. He proceeded to go out and confront these protestors, whose noise was disturbing his class. It is at this point that he resigned. So to recap, he *resigned* (meaning that if anything this is a self-cancellation) *two months after* he got so triggered by an *optional* event that he had to email *everyone on campus* a rant about reverse racism, because a *random* group of students *happened* to be protesting a *completely unrelated* event. He then proceeded to build a career as the “cancelled professor of Evergreen State”.

I think the issue with having someone like Weinstein on is that he's too much of an egoist to actually progress the conversation. If you're not kissing the ass of the IDW, they take it as a personal offense. And, if you ever question their inconsistent notions of free speech, they seem to completely shut down. I recall an interview Sam Harris did with an editor at Vox, and that was the exact framework. So, I agree on one hand. On the other, it's really difficult to convince a pompous ass of something to the point it's usually a waste of time.
