And.... CUT! That's a wrap. Another superb video. Thanks for the shout out. The whole idea that record prices are gonna go up fills me with sadness. Not really for me but for people that really can't afford it like young people. I want more young people to join our love of vinyl records.

I do think it will price many people out of the market. Who can drop $40-$50 for just a basic album Bill. Once the pandora box of high record prices has been opened it will never go back, I agree, it’s quite sad.

Happy to see your video of Third Man Records, a place that is so near for me, but so far away. I've got to go there soon. Great finds and great stories. I'm one of those The Police fans where I need all of their albums, but personally, I love their first 3 the best. I also agree that the first three Alan Parsons Project albums are the best. That Manassas album is also great, but I can't seem to get into any other Stills solo albums. Excellent video as always!

I have a small Steven Stills story. My band in L.A. used to record vocals at a home studio in Van Nuys. It was owned by a guy who used to produce all the music for the old “Fame” show. He was telling us once that he got a call at three o’clock in the morning. It was Don Johnson (Miami Vice). He was at a party with Steven Stills and they were playing around on some guitars and they wanted to come and record what they had before it was lost. Don had apparently been phoning around town for a studio and someone had recommended Barry. When they showed up at Barry’s place, they were coked up to the eyeballs. He said they bashed away on guitars and sang a little between chemical refreshments and eventually got bored and left. He’s still waiting for them to officially release it. I agree with you. Captain and Me is one of the great albums of the 70s.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity91472 жыл бұрын
Lol, oh the excitement of being coked out of your mind and thinking you now are the most creative person on the planet. Being a record producer must have sucked unless you wanted free drugs lol. Thanks for the story Darrell, always fun reading. Enjoy your week Darrell.

Great video, Professor! I have to admit you totally surprised me with the Donna Summer, would have never thought ANY of her stuff was in your wheelhouse...but you've surprised me before too! If you saw my "Influencers" on her, you know she's one of my all time favorites - what a voice that woman had. I don't suppose anyone took video of your Belinda Carlisle imitation, did they? ROTFL! The first two Police albums are the best - had both of them courtesy of a friend who recorded them for me, wore the damn tapes out. They were awesome back then. Lots of other good stuff in there too. And it's easy to see how you could confuse Grace Slick and Jones...yeah, they look SO much alike, LOL! Great Third Man tour too, saw it a few years back on CBS Sunday Morning, they showed off the whole place with Jack as their tour guide, wonderful place. TTYL!

Agree, Slick and Jones must have been twins, they look the same to me. I remember seeing your Summer video. I am from the disco era TK, Saturday Night Fever was HUGE. I don’t like early Bee Gees, I like the disco version. It is happy music designed to make you dance. Yes, there are videos of me but they are later. Some pretty funny stuff. I loved to perform lol. Each store I had a core group who would do whatever I came up with. I was a social Influencer already haha.

I had additional footage of the neighborhood surrounding this store. It is amazing, great place to come down to. It goes from great to horrific in a block though. A block away from the store is a street where they took all these beautiful mansions that were in decay and they brought them back to life. There was so much money in Detroit so the more they can save the better. Alas, much of it is gone

I was hot Eric lol. It was pretty funny and started my lip sync career. As a teenager in the mid 70s Aerosmith was huge along with Kiss. By the end of the 70s I had moved past both bands. Pretenders, Talking Heads! B 52s, Numan took over but in college this was much cooler stuff to listen to. Rocks still makes me smile when I play it especially when I want to get Back Into The Saddle Again haha.

Hey! Gotta love Donna Summer's classic disco tunes. Ground-breaking stuff. On the other hand, I don't get bands like Van Halen. I never went through a rock phase, so the draw of that kind of music is a real mystery to me. I really like the first two Police albums, but after that its only the big tunes which interest me. Third Man looks very yellow and very interesting. I'm not sure I'd like to go there looking for records, but I can see it's a fabulous place to visit. Cheers - Hedley

Thanks for the video Steve, I’m definitely going to have to pay the third man record store in London a visit. Nice to see Outlanders D’Amour. I would have grabbed that David Ruffin LP in the bins at 2:15 - seems super expensive to try and get online, don't know what it might go for direct from Third Man but maybe cheaper. Good timing, I was just watching the Record Safari documentary on YT last night which included a visit to Third Man and a look in the pressing plant. Jack has really done a lot, who would have thought it would develop into this when those early White Stripes albums were coming out. Looking out for the first Manassas, I used to see it in the cheap bins but it has now disappeared. Took a chance on the second one a while back and realized what I was missing. The first Howard Jones is hard to find huh, I have it, loved New Song at the time and had it taped to cassette off the radio, I can still vividly hear the bit of DJ talk that got taped at the beginning as the bonehead started talking while the song was playing lol.
