Man, I remember when they first pulled her out of the water. Her entire port side was caved in, victim of a brutal battle against salt and time. Now, I think she's ready and willing to go back in to that fight. Long Live Texas!

She will be there when Texas becomes an independent nation again. But the repairs do not have to be super durable for her to be around when Texas becomes an independent nation again. They are easily only about 15 years from going independent again. Ask any Texan, has the federal government been beneficial to the. The Texans will all say the same, "The federal government does nothing for Texas." The Battleship Texas was from a time when national unity was enormous! The Battleship Texas will soon be the symbol of the Republic of Texas. Right now, she is the symbol of the move for independence. Texas does not need the federal government. The federal government needs Texas.

@@PrintScreen. Do not take my word for it. Ask a Texan. Every single one has said the same thing and the federal government is already getting nervous. Some of the signs have already been changed to, "Republic of Texas." Of course, anybody can change a sign and it mean nothing. But ask a Texan. Ask a Texan where they are from. All of them will say, "Texas," first. None will say United states of America first.

As a Brit seeing the last true Dreadnought in existence being so thoroughly restored in Texas makes me so glad. This class of ship was born in the UK marking the complete break from the Pre-Dreads. They were revolutionary. Battleship Texas has all the authentic hallmarks of the type and is a treasure. I live here in Houston and I will be an enthusiastic visitor when she is open for visitors. She will look magnificent when refloated. A proud ship and a very important type historically.

This makes me so proud as an American and a veteran to see a piece of our history being shown the love and respect that it deserves. She's the last of her kind in the world built to defend our nation, our allies, and take care of the men who served aboard her. She did all that was asked of her and more and it's about time she received some much overdue attention to ensure that she is around for another 100 years. I hope all that have been involved in helping to bring this old girl back to life feel the sense of pride in their accomplishment as all Americans should. She's once again a beauty to behold. God Bless the USS Texas, and God Bless the United States of America.

And drydock space needs to be found for Olympia in the near future. She’s already something like four or five scheduled drydockings behind since 1946. The mobile cofferdam thing they’ve been using has done great work addressing the immediate concerns, but a full drydock repair is still critical.

There is still a lot more work to be done, but you're right ... her hull now looks great. The work left to be done can be done with the ship in the water again, internal to the hull and superstructure. As I understand it, the Battleship Texas folks also have much of the funding they need to replace the wooden decking so they can get rid of the concrete applied earlier to patch the deck in places.

Why the off set rudder????
@LordSlayer001
@LordSlayer001 11 ай бұрын
@@johnkamm386 been that way since 1948. Apparently was the last 'commanded turn'. They can't straighten it, too much time has past and it will cost too much to correct. Better to put the money to other parts of the ship of more concern.
@robertf3479
@robertf3479 11 ай бұрын
@@johnkamm386 The rudder is in the last position ordered when she moored for the final time prior to decommissioning after WWII. I believe the Texas Foundation has checked into what would be needed to straighten it and found that it is now "welded" in place by rust and corrosion. Leaving it obviously causes no real problems when she's being moved, it exerts a totally expected force that is countered by a tug "made up" to her stern, either along side or by a tow line to her stern as was done during the trip to the shipyard. "Correcting" the position would require removal of both the rudder and the rudder "post" which is the part that is frozen in place and would add a good deal of expense to what is already an expensive drydock work package. The rudder and post would either have to be reinstalled after the interior work is done or the hull opening "blanked over" with plating to seal it as this opening is below the waterline even with the ship moored in an unloaded condition. I think the Foundation want to keep the ship in as close to the condition she was in when they took ownership from the Navy as possible.

Beautiful job guys! Y'all are great. I'm so glad she is being taken care of. I'm from the area and was a little disheartened to move so far away from her last home in Deere Park. But all in all, she's in the best hands. Let the tailwinds be at your back.

She looks great with her hull refurbished and that spiffy new paint job. I would love to get a tour of that foremast. That had to be a wild place to serve.

Fantastic!!! It's great to see her back to her former glory!! I'll never forget stepping onto the Battleship Texas when I was 13. I was in awe!! The only thing that compared was walking into the Alamo.

Battleships like this have no effectiveness with modern technology it would get sunk. It's 100 year old tech, today's battlefield is carriers, jets, long distance rockets & drones.
