I also just came across this on KZbin after watching Hans Gorski short clip and was shocked about this earth breaking idea. Thanks for a full explanation. Wli feel we should look at the difficult double stops and explore new possibilities

Yea, I felt the same way when I saw his interview! Actually, I believe there is a written exercise of thirds by Korguev, with very similar fingerings.

Hi Inna, Great vidéo as usual. I watched Adam Han-Gorsky’s video on ToneBase, but it was difficult for me to make out exactly what fingering he was using. You did a great job at clarifying this. Thank you so much! And yes, to me the ToneBase platform is a real gold mine. I am learning so much everyday from it.

Nice to hear that you found my ideas inspiring. Wanted to mention that your suggestion for the next scale in double stops is fairly close to the general idea, however there are some basic differences in applying those ideas. You may contact me directly if interested.

Thank you so much for creating this video!! I haven't seen that course yet in Tonebase, but I will definitely check it out. Standard fingerings for thirds at a quick tempo are so challenging. This seems like a great solution.

Hello, I loved this approach, in case you haven't seen it, I recommend Ricci's approach in: Left Hand violin technique. He says that playing 3 thirds instead of 2 (1-3, 2-4) is an advantage of the 50%, In case you don't have the book, I can send it to you. I also made a translation into Spanish in the same file. By the way, that Dounis exercise, although he is right, does not address an exercise to prepare the fingers for that thirds exercise (I have not seen it perhaps) but Ricci does, and exercising Unwarmed Dounis can be painful.

Superb teaching . I understand that left hand muscle has to touch the left side of the ribs when playing higher positions. Am I right Violina? Thank you 🙏🏼🟨🟦

The left hand will make contact with the violin body in high position, yes.

And why and for what reason? Everyone’s hand is different, but whether you are 5’2” or 6’4” the violin size doesn’t change, hence you can’t specify which part of your hand touches what… In a higher position it is EXTREMELY important to have the fingers come vertically down, so as to touch the string with the FINGERTIP ONLY!!! Why is it so important? The higher the position, the narrower the tolerance, if you put your fingertip flat on the string, you loose intonation control. So this is YOUR priority to have the last joint of your playing finger in vertical position, better sound, vibrato and intonation. You than adjust the rest of your hand and arm accordingly and make sure, that your right elbow is never higher than your wrist. That will affect your left hand position by relaxing the right side.
