I flunked my senior thesis. Started over unmotivated, discouraged and stuck. I wasnt moving forward with anything until I found your video about being an architect. I’m definitely looking into muji. This is the way tutorials are supposed to be done. Concise descriptions in an even tone by a person who understands and knows product. I am so tired of so many so called experts because they have a camera and they think they’re cute talking about their sketchbook and they can’t even tell you about the paper let alone the tooth. I picked up my first french curve at the age 10 or perhaps eleven. Mistakenly I persued a career in graphic design. Stuck with it for about a year partied found a dead end job and left college. I'm an agricultural engineer, but the vids from your channel really help whenever I'm tasked to design a new greenhouse, renewable energy system, or do farm development projects for clients. I initially wanted to become an architect when I was young, but fell in love with engineering. But in terms of design and conceptualization, I try to put myself into architect mode. Hi Jorge, hope you’re still engaging deeply with design thinking + its realisation IRL. I can see important ways in which agricultural systems / practices overlap with design principles, which -while you obviously know way more than me in both theory & practice - it seems the best farmers, managers, agronomists, toolmakers, etc all use to advantage. I decided to study chemistry in college, now I am retired and thinking of moving to Colorado, maybe build a house there. When I was in 7th grade I took drafting class which I really loved. I fell in love with architecture and since I had all of my drawing equipment at home too I used to spend hours drawing my own designs. Some of my favorite designs were circular houses even though I knew they were expensive to build I did it for the art. I wasn't sure that I wanted to study architecture because I also loved chemistry but I remember walking through the architecture building at UC Berkeley to see what they were up to. Now I stumbled upon your channel and am intrigued about your sketch books and methods and tools. I never sketched when I was young just went right to the drawing. Recently I was also intrigued by Lego architecture and bought one of their general Lego sets because I like the idea of building in 3d. Now I realize that the building site is so important before the design so I don't really do any detailed designs. But I like the idea of sketching that you use to generate fresh ideas for the sake of ideas alone. I look foward to more of you videos and doing some of my own designs. Thanks for your channel.

As a student in second year at an architecture college I found your videos interesting, especially when teachers show us only the greatest architects and not the other interesting ones too. Btw, I use a lot of ink because of being an artist too, so to stop the bleeding I get only sketchboks with over 120g. I recommend the Smltart sketchbooks a lot

Storing the pencils in an eye glass case is brilliant! I keep my mechanical pencils, their leads and regular pencils there, along with erasers and sharpeners. Everything is in one handy location.

Thanks for sharing Eric. Lately I’ve been using a Rhodia dot pad and you’re right! It does help a lot. But usually I carry a handmade sketchbook. I looked on KZbin for perfect binding methods that allow the pages to open to a flat 180 and then invested a couple of hours making a bunch of those. That way I was able to preselect what paper I wanted to work on and even included black paper. On the other hand, I prefer pen an ink with occasionally light washes. Fountain pens, that’s my mojo. They’re absolutely perfect, I get line variation and I don’t worry about buying disposable pens few times a year. There are a couple of great choices, Lamy Safari with EF nib, Pilot Vanishing Point, Platinum Desk Pen, Noodlers Ahab Flex nib, and Lamy Dialog 3... Unlimited options! Gold nibs are just a pleasure to sketch with, they’re smooth and just plain perfect. 🖋

I'm not an architect but what you might call someone who was Born to Build. I had three years of formal architecture training at UICC in Chicago from 1972 through 1974. This video reminded me of my first two years of design work where we did everything freehand. We used no straight edges or triangles. There was no CAD systems. There were some students whose work you might consider art. I wasn't one of those but the skills I learned I still use today in my position as Construction Manager at Habitat for Humanity Lake County Illinois. I have designed and built more than 200 homes, countless decks and room additions over the years and wish that I had kept sketch books of every project. I love this video, just so relatable. I'm not an architect tho, and I rarely use pens for my sketches. I prefer darker shades of pencils to define final lines. Yes, smudges are one of the problems for this, but most of the times, I'm just drawing for practices, studies and just to kill time. I dunno, I feel like my level of skill is just not enough to consider a drawing as final. I always feel I need to improve. That's why I kinda treat most of my drawings a li'l disposable. Maybe that's one of the reasons why I rarely use pens because pencils is setting this mindset that it's not yet finished. Your artworks will always be prone for changes. Also, the sketchbook hahah yes, springed sketchbooks are the best sketchbooks. I've tried softbinded and stringed, but it is problematic to use especially whenever you are on the last pages.

Your style of drawing really reminds me about my father he has a same style of drawing lines, objects and material, (and funny thing is the hand writing almost same) And he was a architect, an old one (born at 1956) so he often draws manually. sadly he died at 2013 from heart attack Oh yeah btw my little brother also architect too, and he has almost same style like you, I guess all architect have a same hands... 😂 Thank you for sharing videos about architect style of drawing, really warm my heart. Anyone know what the pen metal/metallic pen on the left of the screen between 5:55 and 6:07 is? It's got either 05 or 0.5 pm the top of the cap/lid, and is first shown in the tray, then above the drawing mat on the desk.

I’m an ink architect, but when it comes to mechanical pencils I cannot go smaller than 0.7mm. And I use 6mm 6B. Short clutch. Used to be hooked on niji stylists, but now I’m back to whatever you can get at local stores.

When I found a Muji store I had to go and check out the sketchbooks, but I must say what you call "egg shell finish" is kind of a deal breaker for me. I can imagine the smudging and the graphite not sticking to it… If it wasn't for that, I would have bought one.

I use the Pilot V7 too...i feel it's perfect for all kinds of work...I keep a V5 too just to do finer lines. But my drawback is that i don't use any colours at all because I'm too lazy for that...!!! I have to correct this... Great video though...high quality as always...!!! Thank you...!!!

Nice to see that your hand shakes when you're drawing straight lines for your boxes. I thought I was coming down with Parkinsons. Drawing a line in the opposite direction you would normally go takes the waviness out of your lines.
