I think it's iconic because it shows the world that an accurate and reliable watch costs $20. It does away with pretentiousness. It's not art, you can't impress people with it, or buy it as an investment. It just tells time. That's the reason people wear a watch to begin with. And that's appealing for a lot of folks.

The F91-W is the AK-47, the Zippo lighter, the Bic Crystal Biro, the VW Beetle, the superlative of its kind. It is the best, cheapest, most democratized watch ever made. It is time for the masses. It is one of the finest works of engineering on Earth. And you can have it for less than the cost of a McDonalds lunch for two.
@jayeblagburn2056 Жыл бұрын
The F91W is, in my opinion, more nutritionally advantageous than anything from the Mac D's menu. I now own three genuine 91Ws; original black, cyan blue and pink. I also have a NASA souvenir watch that makes no claim to be anything other than the homage it is, but it has a decent electroluminescent back-light, a silicon case & strap and a steel buckle. The strap and case are white, but it was only the module that I needed because, with a tiny bit of filing down a couple of plastic ribs in a real F91 case, its superior illumination and equivalent accuracy can be swapped into the 91 to create my ideal version of this horological icon. Viewing this clip today has made me start a search for one of the earlier models mentioned. I received an 83QS 41B as a present for my 16th birthday, back in 1980 and its original battery lasted for ten years, the next for a further ten and the third? Still in the watch as I've now taken to wearing my bright yellow Bluetooth solar G-Shock "Casioak" most days, sure & it does more tricks, but that older 83QS 41B and each of my F91Ws are just as likely to be on my wrist, often one watch on each. Of the 42 watches in my collection, some 34 are Casios. I even sold my Omega Seamaster 300 Diver as I just couldn't justify having something so valuable out and about every day. Its direct replacement? A Casio analogue dive-style piece which is the only quartz analogue watch in the collection whose seconds hand hits each and every marker on its way round the dial. Yep, I'm a little too fond of watches, but far and away the easiest decision regarding which should be with me when the zombie apocalypse comes is the original black resin F91-W. My G-Shock 5600 would be pointless as those pesky undead will by then have killed off Bluetooth, 6 band atomic clock connectivity and possibly the sun itself. 91W for the win, my apocalyptic companion, the Toyota Corolla of watches!

It became one watch, besides the Seiko SKX and Vostok Amphibia, I became very familiar with. I recently found one a couple of days ago at my local thrift shop for $5. When I was digging through the bin of watches, this surfaced and I couldn't help but to let out a small chuckle due to the nostalgia this watch brings to me. This is my go to everyday carry watch. If a Seiko can be a great first mechanical watch, the F91W is just a great first watch, regardless of movement.

It’s the watch that will never leave my collection. It’s my watch that started it all, for me.

My current watch is a Casio Illuminator which is a fancy variation on the F-91W theme. It has what I think is a stainless steel case and band, and a better backlight. Otherwise it's the same as the F-91W. I like these watches, and my old Armatrons because they're cheap, accurate and rugged enough for me.

I bought 3 and the first one I bought keeps time the best. It also doesn't set off the metal detector I walk through at work and I do manual labor so its hard to replace with other designs.

Rocking an OMEGA P.O. 215.30.40.20.01.001 and said F-91W for when it gets real rough. Couldn´t wish for more.

Ahh, the stopwatch game - we used to stop it on every half second, bit more of a challange !
@damyr Жыл бұрын
We used to stop it at every 1/10 of a second. I was the only one who did it in one second.
@Camelboy68 Жыл бұрын
@@damyr That's tough work, bu doing 0.5 sec we could get well over 30secs, cause of the rhythm you'd build up.

@@Camelboy68 Yeah, it was fun, but not as real video games. Tho, since I've got the watch from my uncle, it became my obsession to make a record among other guys and to beat the game. LOL Also, it was not an F-91W, but a stainless steel melody alarm version (I can't remember the model name), which had a row of numbers (0-9) at the bottom of the dial, used to count 1/10 of seconds, and a small dash would go fast from left to right, which we tried to stop at every number, in order to achieve the least number of hits per try. It was almost as some kind of a simple video game. Fun times.
