The rattle from the frameless window shutting is iconic. There is so much nostalgia due in part from the frameless windows in my BMW E46. I smiled when I heard the door close.

I drive a black iX iDrive50. With respect to the doors and it sound: use soft close! Let the car do its work, you will not hear any sound when it closes its doors

100% agree with every compliment and criticism. Although I am not as offended by the looks as everyone seems to be. I think it looks nicer than a Tesla model X. And I like that it's different than the model Y because those things are EVERYWHERE. The price is definitely on the outrageous side, but after watching some background on the engineering and manufacturing of the IX, over on Savagegeese, it seems like maybe the price isn't *that* far off. I think BMW probably should have priced it lower and taken the hit on profits, just to prove the concept en masse. Because if this thing was priced closer to an EV9, I think it would have flown off showroom floors.

You can get crazy lease deals on these now.

we have almost the exact same spec as this. Absolutely amazing car. We must have one more option package as ours has the crystal seat adjuster knobs, rear heated seats, and our center console has the wood instead of piano black. Also ours has soft close on the front doors so don't get that annoying window rattle if you use it correctly. For the back of the front seats that little door is for some accessories you can get. There are hanger options, even iPad mounts. Trust me I drive a 2024 model Y and there may be somethings on paper that may seem similar between them, there is no comparison other than they are both EV's and can seat 5 people. Now at nearly half the price given today's pricing you can't be too hard on the MY as for the money it is very well appointed and the tech is great.

I drive an i5 eDrive40, and I love it from my heart. But my first "Beloved BMW" was a big BMW Grills iX. I love giant front kidney designs (many people dislike them and say they are ugly) because they are different from the same-all-traditional BMW kidney design. They look futuristic and have a unique overall design, and it is an amazingly fantastic EV SUV.

The double door seals including around the windows look very nicely designed and probably a large part of the low road noise.
@AtomicNexus5 ай бұрын
Mixed experience with the one my dad had as a loaner. Sounded like there was a seal leak with the roof glass as we could both hear a high-pitch whistle coming from above the front passenger seat. The doors also rattled on close like crazy, no matter the window height, which is just nuts for this price.

That ambient light is fictional as it lets you know if it’s locked and also can warn you if some is in your blind spot before you open the door (may be a speck thing)

Owner of a 2024 and in agreement of pros and cons. I would go further to say I am one of the people whos car has been seen in the BMW Service Department (and has been denied a buyback from BMW NA) about 10 times now because of "cheap plastic" / Build quality issues I would call it. Both front door interior panels complete replacement due to buzzing and rattling that no insulation could handle. Back D-pillar having to be addressed 3 times that came along later. A 100k vehicle should never have issues like this. The last time I picked up the vehicle, July 1st, and mind you this has been a 7 month chase, I told them I'm emotionally checked out. A vehicle you want to love but $100k for cut out features that are pretty STANDARD to cars 30k less.

For the door sound, I agree 100% I chose the soft close option for my doors because I didn't like the sound of them. The soft close feature handled this issue nicely.

As far as the interior of something like the X5 vs this. The traditional buyers of X5's are waaay to conservative to ever be ok with an interior like that, too many things done differently. Putting out a car like this that's outside of the normal naming convention, even if it is functionally an electric X5, allowed them to try things and get a feel for what the customers will let them get away with. I like it, but when we drove one at Electrify Expo my wife was.........less enthused lol. Although that one had the "crystal" for the idrive wheel and the seat adjustments, I think she'd be more ok with this spec. Also, you forgot to mention the neat way the car can wash the rear and forward facing cameras!

The only thing about what BMW looks like that I notice is that it's strange that they have blinkers equipped because I never see them used
@mrichte25 ай бұрын
not using the blinker is not a BMW privilege, but an American! I just gor back from Europe, everybody using the turn signal for turns and lane changes. Over here, regardless of the car brand, people are just to lazy to use their turn signal!

Not up to par on paper? Surpasses most other electric SUVs on the market on paper and in both range and 0-60 tests

Wow. The elephant skin plastic on such an expensive car, to me, is unacceptable. My E46 had soft injection molded plastic on the lower door cards. As for the window switches, I believe you can option a galvanized finish for like $100-300.

The little door in the back of the front seats is for an overpriced bracket from BMW that snaps in for an iPad holder.

hard to tell, but the panel gaps look around 5.5 mm... that is huge for a lux vehicle. you should be around 4.0 mm to be playing with the big boys.

Hello Colton do you prefer IX or Etron in terms of quality and quietness?
@OutofSpecDetailing5 ай бұрын
E-Tron is still one of the best built EV’s and unbelievably quiet. Considering you can pick up a low mileage one sub $35,000 it’s a hard car to ignore. The new Q8 Etron vs the iX, I think the iX edges it out in every category… But it’s much more expensive from my memory
