Some users tho doesn't even experience this. Knew some people using them for a couple of years but still works perfectly fine. Might be some factory defects or what not. But we will never know. Maybe the company listened to the feedbacks/review made the forka a little bit better. But, at the end of the day we should invest to a little bit more expensive forks that proved them selves over the years. Buy cheap, buy twice

Is there a reason you are inserting the forks into a metal tube before clamping down? If you could clamp to the steerer tube itself you would have way more consistent results and the weight wouldn't keep getting deflected when it hits the fork and makes it rotate.
@tobins68002 жыл бұрын
Several things. 1. During riding, a hard hit will deflect the front end. 2. Clamping directly to the stanchion will influence the test amd also introducing a new failure point (the clamps are toothed and more than likely a harder material than the stanchions). I'd rather see a tighter tolerance for bar or some semblance of bearing. PVC pipe might do to fill the gap.

@TheAverageDutchman2 жыл бұрын
I think there is still a problem with the smasher rig. If you look closely at the slow motion you'll see the fork deflects enough to actually hit the base, which will stop the steering tube or the stanchion to bridge? connections from bending. If the clamps holding the fork where higher off the floor board I think both forks might come off a lot worse. The Bolany fork being much more flexible would likely hit the base sooner and spring back with equal force applied compared to the suntour, but if it was allowed to move freely, it would likely deflect to failure on the first hit.

An interesting video for sure! I am bad at addition, but between the price of the Kent and the upgrades, it seems like you are in around a grand? I have within the last year bought two beginner-class HTs (a Rocky Mountain Fusion 29er and a 26.5' Polygon* Xtrada-6). Each was slightly under a grand, and came equipped with parts about equal in quality to what you added to the Kent. In fact, the Fusion came with the same Microshift Advent rear mech, which has shifted FLAWLESSLY for about a year. Both are lots of fun to ride on trails that while not scary by Seth standards, are certainly above beginner level. This might be a good alternative for people who would have to pay a mechanic to install some of these upgrades. *I am definitely a support-your-LBS person, but no local shop currently has bikes in this price range in anything but too small or too big.

Given how the fork is mounted in the stand vs how it's supposed to be mounted in a bike, I would be curious where the bending is occurring. Seems it should be mounted similar to how it would be in a bike with a set of bearings. I wouldn't expect the steer tube of the fork to be designed to take a perpendicular load like that.
@janeblogs3242 жыл бұрын
You can see it bananed the steerer in the middle. Yes it should be mounted on a bearing hard up on the crown race. The impact test is real world, hitting gutters/rocks or Seth's crazy roll in (the of version ) but casing the front tyre falling short of a jump is when they snap. If you watch the canecreek video he's copying or look up real snapped fork steerer's, the tube collapses right as the base of the steerer tube.

The XCR air is actually decent, but it is heavy. With a little more money you can get a Raidon (or even better Epixon), which is much lighter fork

That suntour XCR fork is a great option. We have them on a few of our rental bikes and they are bomb proof. They will do thousands more km that the coil suntour without any servicing and still work like a dream.

Bro my Suntour XCT 30 fork is inconsistent in terms of performance. Sometimes it feels too stiff while sometimes it feels perfect. I actually didn't service my fork for about a year but when I did, I found out that the stanchions were wearing out near the seals. Also, within few days of service my fork feels too stiff.......any solution?

It’s also worth noting a lot of these cheap air forks have 26inch options available. Which is definitely an increasingly more difficult size to find
@RADkate2 жыл бұрын
yeah your kinda screwed if you have an inter year bike though i was able to find a used 29inch fox float with straight steerer tube in the right size with a 9mm axel. thats like the most obscure spec

No post-ride tear down of the forks to see if there’s any obvious reasons for the performance degradation?

So: ... I've bought this exact fork 2 years ago on amazon. Back then I just started mountainbiking and put this on my trek marlin 5, which before had that exact suntour fork on it. since then i had a lot of rides with it and can therefor tell you exactly why it only costs 130 bucks. on my very first ride when i wanted to turn of the compression on the fly (before going uphill), the whole cap flew off and i had lost that small ball and the spring which prevented the cap from turning around while riding. a few rides later it suddenly stopped working at all, because it was a wet day and a whole lot of dirt and debree got stuck to the fork and rubber sealing. it would then go in but wouldnt spring back out. also if i let it sit around for a few months it would not hold the pressure very well. so all in all it is working pretty okayish, but i would not want to use it on a wet day anymore.

At 2:40 that French bill dog is eating grass. That’s not a good sign he is eating grass and is an indicator of digestion problems. You should take it to the veterinarian.

That advent derailleur is amazing. 60 bucks for shimano deore quality of shifting and clutch is mint. but I can't attest to the strength of the material as I haven't smashed it on anything yet

Is Shimano really so much more expensive in the US than in Europe? The Deore 5100 derailleur is like 35 Euros over here.

Interesting to think about where they will have saved the cost on the bolany fork, it wouldn't surprise me if lots of the internal components had much rougher surface finishes compared to name brand forks because proper high quality finishing for sliding components can be pretty expensive. Would certainly explain the rapid wear on it from a single ride

that bologna will be perfect for me currently...im glad you did this, im gonna get one

Those Bolany, ZTZ, Lutu, and Bucklos forks seem to use the same parts. I had a Bucklos air fork for my 90lb son. It was smooth out of the box, but it got lots of stiction after 1 trail ride. I tried regreasing the stantions but that only helped for a really short time. The stiction is even too much for little kids and exasperates the small bumps. If going budget fork, go for the Suntour air fork. My old Epixon is still working flawless and smooth as ever...I did regrease the stantions and oil the foam rings and put 5ml of oil in the air chamber. It feels smoother than my Rockshox 35 Gold.

I had a Bologna fork on a fatbike and it was horrid. The amount of inner to outer stanchion play was brutal only after a few rides. Hold the front brake and rock your bike fore/aft. How much play is there?

What a bunch of Baloney... 😂😂😂 Great review! Question... Is your GoPro clipped to your jersey, or is it some kind of hidden chest mount? That footage looks excellent. Very stable.
