This $15 Part Almost DESTROYED My Engine!

In todays video we are tearing into the Mercury Tracker 25 HP 2 Stroke Outboard on my 16 ft aluminum Valco fishing skiff! We will be replacing both spark plugs, pulling the lower unit off the outboard, replacing the impeller, and servicing the lower unit oil! After the repairs we got out on the water for a great day with my brother, and hooked into a few good leopard sharks!

Transoms are the weak point in all these cheaper skiffs and I have replaced many. Often, the material between the skins is just press board. No amount of "repairs", diamond plate or anything short of opening the transom and replacing with marine ply will work. Believe me when I say that repairs or reinforcements simply spread the damage. Fix it right - takes a weekend, some resin, cloth and a beer or two.

Your shaft seal is leaking that's where the water is intruding not your vent and your drain
