This 19.5 inch bowl broke my Laguna 15/24 TWICE!

My largest attempt at turning ever. The laguna 15/24 outboard table is brand new. First, broke my banjo, now with a fused faceplate and bent pin, its down for the count.
Laguna did replace the banjo at no change (Thank you!)
Ill be calling tomorrow to see about the headstock.

Nice platter. Haven't tried outboard turning yet. The references I have read show having the tool rest attached to a long pipe that sits on the floor and is anchored in a heavy base. (bucket of concrete, truck brake drum, etc).

Thanks for watching! This has an extension that's included in the outboard bed Extension. There is just enough flexibility to make it a challenge. But I did make much better progress with the curved tool rest. There may be a resonance issue, an Id10T error or something in between too.

@@toddland3338 I was thinking that the length of the extension to the banjo arm was pushing it's limits, hence the break.

Beautiful bowl. Nice to hear that Laguna is standing behind their product. I want to upgrade to the same lathe you have but wondering if your issues are common. Any advice or suggestions is appreciated. Stuart

Thank you, this is my first attempt at anything close to this size. My previous was about 14.5 inches and wasn't nearly this difficult. I suspect the banjo design is the source of a lot of issues. The peice that attaches to the banjo to raise the tool rest is pretty heavy duty, but acts like a heavy spring instead of a solid rest for the tool. I'm going to look for a longer shafted tool rest to remove that difficulty on my next try... If the lathe can be repaired. Laguna has already replied to my call and we have a ticket open. I've sent pics and an explanation. We will see what's next.

Very nice platter. Suggestion on your video editing use less high speed views, inter space some real time moments to help the viewer see whats going on. On another topic, rethink your brand of lathes.

That Laguna has served me well. I may have pushed her a little harder than intended but for peices not on outboard, I've never had a single issue.
