I have to admit when driving anything with similar safety concerns it changes the way you'll push it, especially if you've rolled before. Even I'm the best of situations being at the track it is an enlightening experience if its the real deal, roll not tip or tumble dry. Funny thing is I've driven an original iconic Lancia, the car they won with in '83 though this one was built as a modification a few years later but everything was indeed accurate if you get what I'm saying by the main topic lol. When driving that car I had no problem tossing it about and feeling that absolute zen, hitting a transition on dirt on an s curve and it feels like a dance, that you won't get in AWD of today's rally competition. But ya anyway regardless of the assurance of death if she goes over it was present like it was in an open top of a similar setup and it all comes down to perception even when you KNOW it's a false security.

I was a Designer on the original Viper and Carroll Shelby was asked to give some advice as one of the performance goals was to match the 0-100-0 time of the original Cobra. I had the chance to meet him and talk to him at length about cars and his other passion, his badass chili. One of the nicest men I have ever met and the absolute high point of my design career.

charlie dee hey Charlie what an amazing experience you had! I would love to have met Shelby. As you probably know, he also helped create the prototype Sunbeam Tiger ( I am restoring a ‘67 Tiger) and legend has it he wanted to drop a SBC in an Austin Healey (he drove for Donald Healey) . I had a 327 ‘vette powered AH3000...wicked fun....never lost a race :)

I've watched this and other Cobra reviews many times. I've been in love with Cobras since I was in middle school in Hawthorne, CA. Carroll had already started manufacturing Cobras (and later GT350 Mustangs) in a hangar at LAX not far from where I lived in Hawthorne. I distinctly remember walking with my buddies by his small showroom on Sepulveda/PCH there in El Segundo one day circa 1965. In front was a real-deal brand-new 427 Cobra in a color scheme exactly like the one portrayed here. Us kids were wowing at that machine through the window 'cause we knew what that was sitting there before us. What a wonderful memory! I wonder if that car we saw is still around. One can only hope so! 🙂

@Loulovesspeed
@Loulovesspeed Жыл бұрын
@@edwardbazydlo5896 Nope, the reason it was reversed was purely due to it's length and the setback mounting of the 427. There was still a driveshaft, though it was a very short one - maybe 3 feet. The Cheetah was the racer with no drive shaft at all.

@@stoveguy2133 As I said, but you evidently missed, the highest price at auction for an AMERICAN car is the '35 SSJ Duesenberg once owned by the great actor, Gary Cooper. Powered by a 420 cu. in. DOHC, 32 valve carbureted and supercharged straight 8, it put out 400 HP. It was the fastest pre WWII production road car in the world. It would outrun an Aston Martin DB5 and a Mercedes Gullwing, which were made 20 years later! It also could reach 60 mph quicker than a late 70s Ferrari 308 GTB. One of 2 built, the other one was loaned to another world famous actor, Clark Gable by Duesenberg. Its top speed was somewhere between 135 and 140 mph. No other road car on the planet could come even close to that, and it only had a 3 speed standard trans! Eat your heart out Mercedes Benz! Lol

It's MY theory that they don't even try to sell AMC Pacers, because due to their ultra-coolness, they'd just be too damn expensive for ANYONE to afford! 👉 Now, imagine the riots that would occur at Barrett-Jackson if they were to dare putting the most sought after performance car ever(a 1976 AMC Matador) up for auction, and only 1 person could walk away with it..... The world's top auto collectors would be fighting each other with knives and bats to get hold of it!! 😵😖😠

3:22 FUN FACT! There are several professional builders of Factory Five replicas that can build you the same car and save you about $100,000. The Factory Five will also handle better and stop better. The main drawback is you won’t have an “official continuation Cobra" and you won’t have your chassis number in the Shelby Registry.

That body difference isn't noticeable till a real one pulls up then it is obvious. Also at the end of the day the resale value does mean something. And I just feel like in my opinion I would want one as true to form as possible (modern breaks would be nice though) and if I had one of those built everything I said I had a cobra there would be that little voice in the back of my head saying "not exactly buddy"
@BradThePitts

@@TheJohnnyf10 Comparing all replicas, I actually notice how the car sits off the ground more than body-style differences. For example, one Cobra replica has a long wheelbase and it does not look right to me. I have a keen eye though - I plan car club events for Cobras and Cobra replicas so I see these all the time. At the end of the day, I love all Cobras, and it's interesting to me how/why each owner chose their Cobra.

Did you know that almost all 427 street Cobras had 428 hydraulic valve engines that were less powerful than the 427? Even though the fender badge and valve cover insignias said 427, it was really a 428. The 427 was an expensive engine and Shelby didn't want to over price the Cobra anymore than it already was over the Corvette. All of the racing 427 Cobras were the real thing, and if an owner of a 428 street Cobra found out and complained to Shelby, he set him up with the real 427! A lot of guys are unaware of this "fun fact" as they are called.
