Years back I found a Darling at a garage sale. It sat in a shed put together for years with a leaky roof. I paid 25 dollars for it for the parts. The backglass was a clear window the cabinet was just falling apart. The weird thing was the playfield was perfect the glass protected it, The chime unit on this game had a hole pounded right threw the chime. looked like the one on that machine started to pound a hole threw it :o)
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 5 жыл бұрын
I had the exact opposite onetime, I found a Bally Wizard in a trailer (a mobile home) that was pretty much destroyed... but the backglass was still in perfect shape. The playfield had no glass on it, and rats or something had eaten (or defecated) a hole right through the middle of the playfield. About a 5" hole was gone right in the middle... but the backglass was perfect :)

Thanks for these videos on the Jubilee game! I bought my Jubilee at the flea market in ’81, so it was not very old. It was in pretty good shape and still is. Over time, I’ve cleaned the playfield, replaced the ball shooter, cleaned a few sticky relays, replaced all the rubber rings, and fixed the chimes (like you show in the video). I’ve got to get around to checking the lights that no longer light. But my most urgent repair is the right ball shooter misfires a lot, both in power and direction compared to the left shooter. From you review of the schematics, I think the problem is the coil, so I think I must replace that. I’ll be checking to see if you have a video on how to remove and install a new coil.

Your channel is one of the best there is in regards to old pinball tech. It really shows that you love what you're doing. Since I also tinker around with old EM leftovers, I wanted to ask you what kind of clearcoat you use for the playfields? And since you didn't mention it, I assume you only coat once you're done painting? I've had some bad experiences painting directly on the wooden part of the playfield so I coat twice and paint between the layers.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 5 жыл бұрын
Yes sometimes you'll get issues painting directly on the wood, especially if it's not completely clean and there's wax still on it... For clearcoat I just use straight up Krylon clear but I typically only do EM's... there's probably better options. Satin seems to look more original in my opinion.... I accidentally sprayed one with Triple Thick once (grabbed the wrong can) and it's way too soft for a playfield...

It's fascinating to see how you restore arcade cabinets and pinball machines. Time and patience is required, specially for this (average) machine. But that's called 'hobby' :-)

How much work would it be to take photos of certain areas like those "300 when lit" with worn text on worn background, scale them on the computer, and have silk stencils produced to be able to paint the whole plot with a solid background, and then the text back on in its own color?

Those paint pots are 70c! In the UK pretty sure they'd be £1.50-1.99 each. We get ripped off on everything.

Does the UK still have any independent art stores? I've always imagined there's stores over there that have been in business for 100 years and still family owned that stuff like this might be cheaper at. Probably nonsense, though, LOL

Thank you for the wonder pin videos! I have a question about the Pink and Green colors. Are they neons? On my Jubilee those colors (only those colors) glow under black light. As far as I can tell, because they are underneath the Mylar jet bumper protectors, those are original colors.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 7 ай бұрын
Yes they're neons, very hard to paint... some people refer to it as "dayglo". You can't really mix them together or anything, for awhile Williams used that type of paint on their machines. Looks great if it's still in good shape...

Hah, nice, i had a Jubilee aswell, with just some minor repaints on the playfield thought. I also "modded" mine abit to add some more trick to the gameplay feeling, with two rubber posts. Also someone had carved genitals on every person on the cab on mine, i kept it as it was since it added to the charm LOL

Well, it was a fully working, free play modded Jubilee (but with cracked backglass) in trade for a Dodge City with reset problem, no legs and "homemade" fuse box-thingamabob, not to mention i also got a an old early 80's brown fakewood general arcadecab with Jumpman too, in the deal.

is it true you get paid apprx. 1 dollar for each 1000 views ? if so you have received about 2 dollars for what must be 40 hours work people should be more appreciative of what you are doing for them. If you set up a Patreon, i think people would make bigger donations, because your work helps out the community in a big way.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 4 жыл бұрын
We do a little better than that but not much, this video has made about 12 dollars. The ad revenue is just a little bonus, we're not doing the videos just for that, and luckily most people are pretty cool just a few jerks. We have a business we run so we are paid that way, instead of Patreon we ask people to buy their Amazon stuff after clicking our Amazon link in the description, it pays us a royalty for everything you buy even if you were already going to buy it :) Thanks for watching Elvis!
