The thing is professor, you always touch on such great music and artists!! I grew up in the 70's. I was exposed to all that unbelievable and wonderful music and not just 70''s Pop but Classic Rock, Ol' School R & B, etc...I recall the days of cruising in my car and jamming to America and so many others. I consider myself very lucky in the sense that I grew up in what I believe was arguably the best decade of music ever. The best part of your videos is getting to know the stories behind these timeless tunes. At the time I really never knew what a song was truly about, I just enjoyed them and interpreted them to where I was and who I was with. So I have such joy, unforgettable and wonderful memories that this music always brings me, my friends, a crush, etc...I will keep on watching and look forward to the next video!! And one more thing, I totally appreciate your dad for sharing his love and knowledge of the music with you. A good man for sure!!

You nailed it. My feelings exactly. We knew we were listening to great music at the time. We just thought that's how it was. Little did we know this was a special time in music history. Songs started to decline with the advent of grunge. Every now and then a diamond rises to the surface but overall music still hasn't recovered.

I always laugh when these Foolls out here say the 80s was the Best Decade or the 90s was the Best... The 70s were better than the 80s and 90s Combined ! All Genres of music were bangin' in the 70s at the same time ! Rock, Soul, Funk, Disco and Pop were all pumping out Tons of GREAT music in the 70s ! Even Country music stars were pumping out great Cross-over hits ! And Country is like the worst music ever usually... But any genre can be good if they write good songs with good music... Johnny Cash, Tanya Tucker, Glen Campbell, Vicky Lawrence and others made some good songs in the 70s... Plus Motown, The Sound of Philadelphia with Gamble and Huff... Led Zeppelin... The Rolling Stones, Elton John... Barry White... Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang... Jim Croce... The Ohio Players... The Commodores... Where Lionel Richie made his Best music ! (We won't even talk about his embarrassing Solo crap like Dancin' on the Ceiling) ! There was nothing like the 70s... Even the movies and TV shows were fantastic, All Time Classics !

@@rebeccacorbin1590 I think the Hair bands ruined Rock ! That's why Grunge was able to take over... Plus they did put out some Great music... But the thing that really ruined music ? DIGITAL ! Napster started it and by 2008, the music was finished ! No more CDs meant a huge Drop off in Money for the Record labels and the Artists ! Like 50 Cent said... By 2008, all the money was gone from the music business... He said he made $38 Million dollars on his first album in 2003... Rock was already finished after Grunge fizzled out... Rap was Great until 2008... R & B was finished...Pop is nowhere near what it used to be... Now all genres Suck ! Rap is terrible... No Rock... No R & B... Now it's just Taylor Swift, The Weekend and Bad Bunny... and Drake ! 😢

So many great songs from their first #1 hit "A Horse With No Name" in 1972 to their last top 10 hit "You Can Do Magic" in 1982. I met Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley following an America concert in Lowell, MA in 2005. Their debut album is the first piece music I ever remember listening too. I told Gerry and Dewey this tidbit. Dewey asked, "Did your parents force you to listen to us?" He wasn't snarky about it. But Gerry got what I was conveying right away.

Thank you for talking with America. They have been my favorite band sence I first hear thier 1st album. I have always thought that it may because that I'm a military (Air Force) brat, just like the members of America. I'm still impressed that some of their first album was write by 16 year olds. But, I been sitting here leading myself astray.

I was 12 years old when "You Can Do Magic" was a hit & we watched the video numerous times. When the 1st Edition of the "Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits" came out after that, I remember being shocked finding out this group America had numerous hits in the 70s, including 2 numer one hits! Over the next 2 years, I started learning more about them &, to my surprise, I knew most of the 70s hits-I just didn't know it was them. Bought "History" in early 1985 & became a fan. On a side note, I followed Dan Peek the last few years of his life & even bought a signed copy of his autobiography off his website which he personalized for me.

Really a great bunch of songs these guys did. Saw them in the Summit in Houston around 78’. Great show. Just wonderful acoustic music of the 70’s.

Hearing America's music reminds me of my childhood due to my aunts and uncles playing their greatest hits album quite a bit. I loved those songs then and have to this very day. Sister Golden Hair's opening acoustic strum makes me feel a bit of joy inside, as I know that I'm about to hear one of my very favorites.

HOW ON EARTH did I play “Sister Golden Hair” literally HUNDREDS of times on the radio, and remain completely unaware that it was produced by the great George Martin? Go figure… especially when the first instrument I played professionally was the saxophone, in FOUR different 1940’s-style Big Bands, while I was learning the other nine instruments I play! Great job on this interview, as usual, Adam!

Sister Golden Hair was on of my foundational songs in my upbringing. I wasn't much into the "Bop Shoo-Wap" ending, but it was an amazing song! I think we all had a "Sister Golden Hair" in our lives.

Ahh! Another traveling song for me! 😄 It was on the sound track of so many family road trips or weekend family outings. It brings up images of my dad in his jeans and chambray button down, hiking boots, hat and aviator sunglasses. I picture my dad because this was one of his favorite bands. He was the epitome of 70's cool and he never even knew it 😎

America; a Classic Staple...Always sing-a-long without thinking about the words as it's so ingrained in memory; in the psyche of those from the 70's and now their kids and Grandkids. A return to musical home...Among the time and outside of time. The music of America will remain for millennia.

Something about America's music, or harmonies, or something takes me to a place in my mind that no other band does. Other bands do the same thing, they occupy different spaces and America certainly has theirs. When I hear their music, I definitely think of California.

The band, America, takes me back to my childhood home in the late 1970s when my mother played America, Loggins and Messena, and Jackson Browne on the record player. Such good times.

I was driving Uber one Saturday night last summer in West Hollywood. I picked up a young couple carrying a large box of cake 🎂. Sister Golden Hair came on my playlist. The guy asked me to turn it up. I gladly did. “Everybody sing” I shouted. The girl sang the rest of the song with me. Turns out, she was Grammy winner Lorde. We had a great conversation the rest of the trip. And that was when I sang with a Grammy winner, and that’s why Sister Golden Hair is my ring tone.

I loved Sister Golden Hair the first time I heard it. I grabbed my guitar and figured out how to play it. It's still one of my favorite songs to play. So simple and so much fun. More proof that the old saying "the simplest songs are the best songs" has some truth to it. America was an integral part of the soundtrack to my teenage years.

Hi Adam. I was a boy in the 1970's in Miami. Our family was rooted in Connecticut. So we made many trips back and forth from Miami to New Britain. And we listened to a lot of radio. My father would turn the stereo on at 7 am at wake up. It was funny Lou Rawls always started off the 7 am hour (You'll Never Find) BUT to and from the Drive in/Road Trips home, music was the memory key. If you played me a song from the 70's I could tell you where we were, in the car, on that road trip there or back. America was one of those bands that got a lot of radio play in Miami back then. Radio was really different than it is today, mind you.

Takes me all the way back to elementary school. My 3rd grade teacher did a grammar exercise where she'd play a song and we'd have to write down every verb, or adjective in the whole song. We did lots of songs, including Horse With No Name and Sister Golden Hair. Funny, feels like yesterday in Mrs. Kohorst's class. Great band.
