The only thing I can think of is this is based off of the ye olde Grim's Fairy Tales of Gretel and Hansel. The version that you don't read to kids because of the horror element of it.

Trivia: There is an old Christmas tradition of telling ghost stories. Just read the lyrics from It's The Most Wonderful Time Of Year. I think it's a carryover tradition from Saturnalia, but I could be wrong on that. Anyhow, this game fits right into that.
