Dang dude I had no idea you were a guitarist too. I’ve been following your golf channel for several months and it has completely changed my game 100% for the better. I’ve been playing southern rock and blues since the mid 70’s and still love it to this day. Heavily influenced by Dickie Betts and Toy Caldwell. Been on a rockabilly kick here lately and having a blast with that and my new Gretsch 5420. So glad to see you playing guitar and especially southern rock. I hear-by declare you “Super Cool” status. Keep up the great work and thank you so much for knocking 10 strokes off my golf game. Whenever someone asks me how I got so much better so quick I immediately send them to your channel.

Welcome back Tom, my uncle played out chord shapes, picked it up when I was young. My favorite new one is to follow the d shape all the way up to the 6th string and its a E shape on the 6th 5th 4th. Sure looked all over looking for your channel. Thanks again

I like stuff like this, a lot of people when they learn CAGED just think of the 5 scale patterns and that's what gets them stuck in boxes as you mentioned Tom When you look at them from a chord perspective you end up with stuff like what you did in this video, you're transitioning from some of the notes in the 'top half' of the E CAGED shape to some of the notes in the 'bottom half' of the D CAGED shape, specifically the 'chord tones' or notes, if someone knows those two shapes it's easy to find extra notes around the basic pattern you're playing there When I first started breaking out of playing just chords what you've done here is exactly the kind of thing I was doing, made learning CAGED a lot simpler for me when I came across it than it seems to be for a lot of people and I think that's cos I'm used to thinking in terms of chords and triads like you've done here, I tell people all the time to play around with just playing part of one shape and 'walk' up or down into the next one and play a part of that then walk into another one when they say they're frustrated about being stuck in those boxes Cool stuff, gave it a like and subscribed

great advice there - don't try to overload your guitar solos with unnecessary movements. Let the notes carry weight to them.
