Looks like a good, cost effective setup. We have about 6-7k of rainwater storage at our place plus mains but I put our rainwater through a filter setup on the side of the house and then boil it as well. Something like this would be a good option inside if the power went down though. I'm guessing that you would have to use it everyday though as I've found our filters get pretty manky if we stop using them for even a short time. Perhaps a small tap on the bottom of the filter so that it could be kept immersed may help? Running dirty water through something like a cotton cloth to get rid of the worst of the sediments may help keep everything cleaner as well.

All very good points I am glad you added them. I will pin this comment. I use mine every single day for everything from filling ice trays to filling coffee pot and cooking and drinking so I have never let mine dry out. I will check into that for my own knowledge for sure. Yes you can use cotton as a pre filter I also keep tons of coffee filters in my preps for pre filters as well. they are cheap and easy to store.

Hopefully water companies have a set of back up generator's to keep it moving

Some plants do have backups that will last a few days but in long term outages like were seeing after Hurricane Helene its not gonna last as long as the power cut. Those people have no water and FEMA is trying to reach them with water as we speak

I have the original B-filter. I have seen videos of people just using buckets as containers and drill holes for the filters. I went with the original because I wanted stainless. Did not have any other containers to use for this. Anyway the filtration works great and I hope your tip helps alot of people in need of something like this👍 great video!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I tried plastic buckets and they did not last long. The stainless steel pots are so sturdy and strong and a perfect fit. I am just hoping that people realize how cheap and easy a filter can be and remind those in the know that its important.

I made the video because of the hurricane devastation this past week and to remind people that clean water can be cheap and easy but its so important to have a backup cause you never know whats gonna happen.

From what we have been hearing about the Berkey filters and the lack of testing, you are better off with those Chinese filters. I have also seen the same set up using plastic food grade buckets to cut the cost down even more. Fun fact - Berkey is a knock off of the British Berkefeld water filter, looks exactly the same but the original British one has full certification for it's filters
@MunkyWrenchАй бұрын
Thanks for letting me know I did not know they were a knock off. I have seen people use plastic buckets and I thought about mentioning that in my video but I tried that before as well and the plastic buckets did not last very long. you have to modify them to get them to stack for use and the buckets themselves are $5 to $7 each already so for the money the stainless steel pots are a much better choice. I just think its a good idea for everyone to have a filter no matter what they use. water is the most important thing in life . Thanks Lee always glad to learn something new
@Lee_ProffitАй бұрын
@@MunkyWrench The trick with the plastic is to put the lid on the lower bucket and drill a hole through it for the filter outlet to poke through, then sit the bucket with the filter in, on top. So the lid takes the weight of the bucket 🙂 Take the lid off and they will stack for travel. I know that Berkey were involved in several lawsuits over their filter claims. Totally agree, we all take clean water for granted, until we don't have it
@MunkyWrenchАй бұрын
@@Lee_Proffit Thats brilliant . I had not thought of using the lid. I keep 50 buckets stacked in the closet to fill in an emergency so I have plenty around and extra filter cartridges I may make one and put it to use just because I can.
@Lee_ProffitАй бұрын
@@MunkyWrench I have made a couple for friends, we can get the Berkefeld filters for £20 ($27) and I just use one per bucket. Flow rate is a bit slow but keeping it topped up helps due to the weight of the water
