The true hidden banger of a steak that's cheap is Hanger steak. Flank and Skirt steaks are also very affordable and good.

The store in my area has a butcher that puts them out. Do you have a store in your area that has a butcher? If so check there. Cheers

olive oil will ALWAYS give you olive as a second taste. it's fine when you are used to it... but... if you want to feel how it tastes without this reaaaaly strong after taste - try it on ANY meat based fat/tallow. basically whatever you will choose - will introduce less "own" flavor, so you can now really start to differentiate what different cuts taste... (because what you experienced up to this time - was strongly influenced by ... a heat exchanger which you were using...)

It’s not a true steak. It’s a piece cut from a roast

At $11.50/lb, I'll take a ribeye. This Denver cut is not the cheapest bargain steak. You want a bargain, buy a ribeye roast for nearly half the price per pound and cut your steaks from the roast.
@CookInTheWeeds
@CookInTheWeeds 8 ай бұрын
It is a bargain. Not everyone can afford $26 per lbs for a ribeye. If I read correctly, you are saying you can buy a ribeye roast for half the price ? Half the price of $11.50? $5.75/lb for a ribeye roast? No way. Cheers mate

I regularly get ribeye roasts on sale for $6.99/lb here in Los Angeles. I buy a 4-5 lb roast then cut it in to steaks. A great way to save $.

I wonder if our butcher has heard of this cut. I'll ask (probs on Friday). BTW, I'm in the UK, so I suspect not. That was a lot of olive oil you used. I prefer to apply olive oil with a brush to the steak before seasoning.

@@CookInTheWeedsolive oil is freakin expensive here, so we don't tend to waste it, lol. Our butcher (I live in a small rural town) buys his cattle from a local market. It's never from more than about 30 miles away. And he dry ages it in a cabinet in the shop on display. I normally buy rump and it's never less than melt-in-the-mouth stuff. The wife was away a couple weeks ago, so I had a 1lb2oz rump to myself. As good as any Argentinian steak I've had in Europe. We're very fortunate round our way for quality meats. There's even a pig farm less than a mile from our house. One ofmy wife's uncles lives in London, just north of Niagra Falls and is a world renowned rare breed pig farmer.

That is awesome my friend! There is nothing better than getting fresh local foods especially meat. The problem with the food in the US, in my opinion, is there is too much processed foods and too many fast food joints. I guess it is what it is. I like to eat as healthy as I can cheers my friend !

I bought Denver steaks from Asda last Summer, but haven't seen them since. Perhaps they're seasonal for barbecuing.
