SOLD
The 3rd generation Honda Prelude was arguably the best looking, retaining just enough of the old school with crisp and modern good looks. It was Honda's Grand Touring car, with a sporty suspension, sporty ride height, and comfortable seating for four. Their available four wheel steering option proved commercially successful, and allowed the Prelude to outperform even dedicated sports cars in the slalom. Pretty much every one came with a sunroof.
While fairly prolific in their day, most have vanished from the face of the Earth, and it's unusual to see one going down the road these days. This well preserved ultra-low-mileage example is a rarity, and a throwback to a time when cars were more simple and connected to the driver.
Full review and test drive by Bill. SOLD

I owned a 1991 Prelude Si 5-speed. Fantastic car. One of the best small sports coupes ever made. A legitimate alternative to a Porsche 944. Beautifully made inside and out, dead reliable, and elegant styling. It wasn't especially fast, but was quick enough to be entertaining on real public roads. Exquisite steering feel, through a world-class steering wheel. Outstanding shifter. Very good seats and excellent ergonomics. The proper all-independent, double-wishbone chassis produced sublime handling. So much so that I was very comfortable pushing its limits in the rain. It was arguably the best FWD chassis available at the time. Honda brakes were notoriously weak in those days, and were easily overheated. The pedal feel was excellent, but raw performance was lacking. We didn't have readily available aftermarket options in those days, so you put in quality pads and lived with the limitation. It was the car's biggest bummer, for me. The engine was not especially smooth from mid-RPM up, although a less restrictive exhaust really helps. Extreme back-pressure in the stock muffler apparently caused vibration throughout the car. The only mod I did to my car was to substitute a less restrictive muffler. It gave a nice improvement in engine response, added top end power, sounded better without being loud, and made it feel like a much smoother and happier engine. Simply one of the very best cars I've ever owned.

My friend had a 1988 Honda Prelude and before you ask LOL! Yes it had both a manual transmission and 4WS. The handling going around curves in dry or wet weather was UNREAL! Unfortunately my friend tested it's wet weather handling one too many times and he ended up hitting a highway divider totalling it. I just found one of these listed on Autotrader with automatic and 4WS and it had similar low miles and sold on Bring A Trailer for nearly 10k. CRAZY!

With the 4ws, if you only turn the wheel a little, all the wheels turn in the same direction to quickly change lanes and once the steering wheel is upside down (while turning of course) the back wheels will turn opposite of the front wheels. They don't turn as much as the front because duh but its super cool and innovative for its time.

HEY BILL! THANK YOU FOR POPPING THOSE HEADLIGHTS UP!!! YOU'VE MADE MY DAY!!! Your videos on your cars are awesome and never fail to be interesting. So true about Honda fanboys. I appreciate your apprehension about the 4WS Prelude and have the same reservations but not your fear about the possible worse case scenario about tech failure. The Prelude is the only one of the original models I've never owned and I walked away from a navy blue 4WS I was interested in when the owner was honest and upfront with me and told me the 4WS steering needed some new components out back. Watch out for that bird though Bill. He and his creepy beak have been watching you the whole video.

@@nathanhellwig1282 since it was my first brand new car and I was paying for it and had it for 17 years, I remember lots of details about the car. You didn't have many options on the si. You could opt to get 4ws or pin stripping. The color car you chose dictated the color interior you got. The si came with power windows, fog lights and a moon roof with shade. I got the red one and that came with an all black interior and seats. I did get pin stripping. I bought it in NY, so maybe in Canada they sold it with manual windows. It came with 2 keys. Both had a black base with Honda impressed on it. One was square the other round. The square one let you lock the trunk and gas hatch button. They also gave out a big white coffee mug that said Honda on it in dark blue and silver. I still have the mug and it's in very good shape. Then I bought a fat puffy red heart keychain because I loved that car. I paid $17,500 for it plus $500 for pin stripping. 4ws cost an extra $1800. I didn't get it because I was putting half down on the car and couldn't afford loan car payments over $10k. Seventeen years later I sold it to a guy for $500. He wanted it for my minty looking interior. The body was shot. 17 years of North East winters took its toll. It's the best handling car I've ever had. I still miss it 😭😭😭😭. Since then I've had an accord...i liked it. Now I have a 2009 civic. It's okay...nothing special. Now I'm in the market for a new car. I keep comparing everything to the lude and can't find it in my price range of $30k.

I always wondered how my life would’ve been with the Prelude ! I kept that MR2 for 7 years, sold it with 73k miles.. never did anything to the car except change the oil, flush out the radiator and put new tires . The orig brakes held out since i “engine braked” using the manual transmission... i got 73k miles out of a set pads and rotors, that has to be a world record somewhere ! LOLOLOL

I know it's a minor grievance but it looks like the driver side pop up headlight was repaired at one point and now is not as flush with the body as it should be. To me it's kind of a sore thumb. Though it wont matter when you're driving it which is most important.

Canadan prelude? Because the wheels look like 88/89, the seats are from a base and the Si had power windows. I had a 91. Was obsessed with the prelude since 81. I know all about the trim levels. To me, Someone just stuck an Si badge on it.
