Can you diagnose an OT failure (with amp off and caps drained) by testing resistance from B+ node to each power tube plate? Should be able to compare resistance with OT spec. An open circuit on either side would be clear evidence of dead OT.

I wonder if those JJ’s shorted and took out the OT. The modern Fender Schumacher iron is usually pretty resilient to abuse. They don’t sound half bad either.

Nope, nothing to do with the old valves, they were replaced months ago.

i have the 5E3 57 Tweed but this one doesn't have the right badge. mine also has a different jensen speaker. Guessing its an older version.

Is the failure of an OT in a fairly recent amp a common thing? I wouldn't expect it to have been stressed in a 5E3 and the owner seemed to take care of the amp...

I was wondering the same thing. The owner put in new power tubes, so perhaps one of the old ones developed a short? Or the owner turned it on without a speaker connected? I didn't notice whether the speaker jack was a shorting jack or not.

I think the amp is 2007 but don’t quote me on that, will check tomorrow.

Nothing to do with the old 6V6s, the amp ran well for a few months after the refresh.
