This $60 Tiny Smartphone from AliExpress is Confusing (NOMU T200 Review)

Greetings and welcome to another installment in the iWish series, a series in which I purchase various questionable products to see if they are any good...most of the time they are not but I buy this stuff so you don't have to!
I was on a live stream a while back and stumbled across this and for the price it seemed like a pretty good deal.
I ended up purchasing this a few weeks later and it turned up and I thought this would just be a standard cheapo phone review but it was far from it.
I was confused within the first few minutes of looking at this.
It appears to be a Unihertz Jelly Pro rebrand...kind of.
It's probably better if you listen to my spiral into confusion as I try and work out this tiny phone.

Apparently this phone is just mostly the Unihertz Jelly Pro parts, but Unihertz has moved on to newer phones that sell for hundreds and there were parts left over at the factory. Both companies are from China, Unihertz in Shanghai, and Nomu in Hong Kong. Neither likely have their own factories, so to get rid of what was left, Nomu buys the phones with some downgraded specs to sell as budget phones. Even if Unihertz does know, they likely don't care since parts they would otherwise have to pay for are bought out by another company that isn't really competing with them.

I wonder if it's based/using the parts of the original Unihertz Jelly, instead of the Jelly Pro, that had slightly lesser specs (less RAM/Flash).

@evefavretto The original jelly did have a 2 GB of RAM option, but the internals are likely just parts thrown in since this is made in a factory that likely makes multiple brands. Still, even the first Jelly has a front camera, which this Nomu doesn't. That doesn't necessarily prove it's not original Jelly parts since they had a slot for one on the shell, but it's unlikely they had original parts left since by the time this Nomu was made, even the Jelly Pro was out of production.

Agold is an ODM. As typical with ODMs, their website hasn't seen an update in over 10 years. It is likely that Agold is the ODM for the jelly pro line of devices and that this is either Agold dumping overstock, Unihertz dumping overstock (less likely) or Nomu partnering with Agold for a small phone, and Agold cheaping out and basically copy-pasting the same device without care. A mix of option 1 and option 3 is what I would bet on.

Oh, and digging through my jellypro archives, found proof that there is indeed two variants of the jelly pro (m and n)... Your version number in the wireless update app states it would be an "N" for yours, if it is not actually a third unrelated device and ROM build. With Unihertz, the reported differences were "6737M vs. 6737T". It is unclear which of m or n had the T vs. the M, and what other differences there could have been, if any. But here's the fun part: the ROM zips in my archive had these names: `c223v37n_dfl_pro` and `c223v37m_dfl_pro`. C223! The same thing as what's on the main board! In the end, it is unclear if v37 is related to the board version. I would hazard a guess that it isn't.

I started with a Jelly 2e, went to a Jelly Pro, then a Jelly 2. I also have the Unihertz earbuds. I came from a 2016 iPhone SE. All pocket friendly. I use the Pro to scan prices with the WalMart app.

Honestly, for A$60 it's not a bad phone, the camera is ok for the price. It's the sort of thing I'd use for a work phone, I always use a cheap phone that I can make/receive calls for work, something that I can break and it doesn't matter. I would absolutely use it for that.... 📱

Great video. Rather impressed by this little phone. The camera and video was surprisingly good. I wouldn't get one as a spare. Its way too small for my stubby fingers ( its a thing) and my eyes are well passed their prime. Lol. Android a bit too old and battery size are not a selling point. It could still have a life as a prison burner. It looks small enough for comfort. Said tge actress to the Bishop. 😂 Thanks for the help earlier. Not seen that kind of scam thing. ❤

I'm rocking an Unihertz Jelly Star as my daily driver (along with a Mix Fold 3, yeah, strange combo) and I have to say that it is a damn good phone. My only complains are the somewhat-crappy LCD (it goes blue-ish if you view it in angle and has some ghosting) and the hardly usable GBoard due the size of the screen, but aside of that it works amazingly well. I recognized the custom layer as soon as you turned on this one.

By just installing spotify or youtube music, you will have a perfect media player that always up to date. The best part is that it doesn't have to use simcard ( since sim card drain battery). Just connect to wifi and download all the songs you want and there you go. Even it has bluetooth so we can connect it to tws or speaker. Omg i want one 😍
