This is exactly why I drive a Suzuki Swift Sport today. It the lightest hot hatch on the market. It doesn't need gobs of power. Just an epic chassis and you're all set. I drove a Nova SR in the 80's. Not at all, you could get the 2.0 litre for pennies and it bolted straight in more or less! I built 2 Novas and the hardest part was running fuel lines and sorting out fuel pumps and tanks, everything else Vauxhall fitted easy. If I remember right you can drop the entire front end, roll bars, shocks, gearbox and engine by 15 bolts and unplug wiring and clutch and throttle cables and it out, same putting the 2.0 litre back. I swapped one over in one day on my own with a rope off the garage roof!

My first car was a Vauxhall Nova SR, bought for £150 with 12 months tax and MOT, when I was 15 (33 now) and didn't know how to drive. Found it in local shop window few doors from home, called the guy, car was couple minutes away from home, went there knowing nothing about cars, bought it from the man and got him to kindly drive it down and park it for me. GCSE results day next day, so while me and peers all had mopeds, I had to leave home early to go try drive this to school, with my portable dvd player strapped up too I kid you not, took me 15mins to get car moving after numerous stalls, then decided I couldn't risk the wrath of the law by coming to standstill and trying to find biting point in open roads, so I used back roads and just kept driving and praying not stopping at junction just merely slowing down, until I get near school t junction where I had to slow down to go left, so far had been more or less straight roads, and I dare not stop but just slowed a tiny bit, swerved across the other side, oncoming fiesta head on crash, right outside the park in front of school. Car lasted just under 12hrs before being written off. Sold for parts and got refund on road tax so made a profit, got banned for 12 months £45 court costs and no points!

Ahh I miss my old star silver nova GSI! Traded it in for a red RS turbo back in 99. Great days! Loving the nostalgia.
