Thanks for this, I've been debating about installing this addon. I'm already pretty motivated (learning Japanese) but I love Pokémon and have even been playing Pokémon in Japanese. I'm glad someone actually made a detailed video~. Thanks

Man, your videos about anki are high quality ! Keep up the good work ;)

small correction when it comes to the real game at 6:45 you get experience when catching pokémon, but it is significantly lower. still not zero ;) but for the add-on's sake, it makes sense to keep it as simple as possible. (beautiful explanation on the showdown selections!)

Idk what Anki is, but this sounds like a great method for flashcards and testing! Is Anki just for nursing, or can anyone use it?
@JakeRommMD5 ай бұрын
It is an open source spaced repetition flashcard software that is free and anyone can use it. It's very popular among people learning new languages and among medical trainees, but there are pre-made decks on almost any subject out there. And it's very easy to create your own flashcards. If you have something you want to learn, anki is a great way to do it.

I think this maybe fun to open flashcards but it would be too distracting for me.

You can customize how visible and/or interactive it is

This will be my new favorite way to study foreign language vocabulary. Thanks for the video! Re 2:58 caption: Thank you for your efforts to be inclusive! Subjective suggestion: I recommend simply saying "they" as the epicene pronoun. Using the epicene "they" is less redundant and likely more inclusive; it's gender neutral and, unlike "he/she/they", it does not imply a ternary (system of exactly 3).

Can you make an addon to Anki like templater in Obsidian?

I feel like this way too much work if you actually like what you’re studying. Maybe if I was some sort of Pokémon addict with ADD This would be great.

Amazing! I have question, how would tackle books which are basically scans of the original, like for example there is book that is half printed and half handwritten, would have the pages individual scanned then run an OCR to capture text, cause you are using pdf which is capture data, but physical notes are a whole different, I would love to hear you thoughts on this. Thank you in advance @JakeRommMD
@JakeRommMD5 ай бұрын
I would use Tesseract to capture the printed text. I haven't attempted to capture hand written text before, so I'm not sure what the best method would be for that. I know people have created workflows to run their handwritten notes through ChatGPT. @thomasfrankexplains converts his handwritten notes into Notion pages and shares the process on his channel. You could do something similar for the handwritten portions of your book.

@@JakeRommMD thank you so much, I actually try tesseract and ran a custom python script(glory to ChatGPT), it did make notes but wasn’t able to individualise the cloze deletion, but tesseract works, I’ll definitely check out Thomas video, I have been following from a long time didn’t know he done that video, thank you once again, I’ll try making a prototype and maybe collab in the future…? 🙋🏽♂️
@JakeRommMD5 ай бұрын
Adding the cloze deletions via a python script is tricky unless you have a very obvious way of defining where they should go. Running the text you extract with tesseract through my custom gpt (or one of your own) should do a pretty decent job though. That wouldn't be totally automated, but still faster than doing it by hand! Let me know how it goes!

hey bro ive been having issues with importing files from excell into anki . when i import them i get this" No cloze 1 found on card. Please either add a cloze deletion, or use the Empty Cards tool. More information" in some cards what do you think the issue is can you please help me
@JakeRommMD5 ай бұрын
This might be because there is no "cloze 1" in that flashcard. The cloze markup looks like this: {{c1::example}} Either there aren't any clozes in the card, the cloze is formatted incorrectly (missing charcters), or there are additional clozes (like a c2) but no c1. Let me know if it's something else.
