I've been a Harley owner and rider for over 40yrs. I couldn't care less if the company shuts down. Warranty??? My newest Harley is 25yrs old. My oldest is 80yrs old. They all run great! I can repair or totally rebuild them nut by bolt. I can't buy anything for any of them at a dealership. Can't even get 50 or 60wt oil anymore! 🤬 I can buy any part I need from the aftermarket via the internet at a fair price and higher quality than original HD parts. 😁

You do know multi-viscosity oils are superior to 50 and 60 weight oil? All of your bikes will run on 10W30 or 10W40 without a problem. If your air-cooled lawn mower can run full open for an hour or two with no air flowing over the cooling fins with 10W30 then your motorcycle should have no problem.

Lionel here in central California. Funny, most of the motorcycles in the video are not Harley Davidsons. Here's what I don't get. If you put an after market part on your Harley Davidson, how are they going to warranty the part when it's not theirs, and may not be of as good quality. Since when do you warranty other companies parts? Isn't it EPA in that is not letting Harley use said tuners? Just saying...

We warranty our work for a year and some acception by miles for the weekend warriors and still guarantee the factory warranty aslong as it's in our hands , now sometimes they send a representative to check out the problem in person then depending on what wrong and what after market parts or on and if they caused the issue at hand . Ther ar a lot hacks out ther and so as a flat rate technician not everthing going to covered by warranty If your that type customer you will never get any technician your bike will handled by many technician instead of one technician that will produce good work , honest and knowing you and your bike is a good thing .

There used to be this concept in America called "freedom". Under such a concept, Harley would be free to make whatever contracts they wanted and customers would be free to not sign them and get a different bike. But yeah, let's run to Daddy Government for everything, just so we don't have to be informed consumers, and worry about where that leads to later.

Harley's solution to this would be to making a reliable engine again, like the EVO was. Then Harley Head Office does not have to worry about people buying after market parts for repair. But as the story roomered goes. When the EVO engine was being manufactured, dealers were complaining about lack of repairs and they could not make money. Here comes the Twin Cam with it's compensator issues, and the cam chain followers. Harley ought to learn something from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers. Reliability, reliability, reliability. I sure know a lot of Metric crusier retailers that have been doing just fine without all the repairs for their reliable machines. So Harley, what gives? Why do you build defects into your motorcycles? I have had 9 metric motorcycles in my 72 year life. I have had two Harleys recently as an end of life bucket list. But in all my years of metric bike riding, never have I had mechanical failure points constantly on my mind, as I do when riding my Harley. Component failure is a reality with Harley, even after making motorcycles for a hundred years. I see plenty of videos of Harley die hards that love working on the failures of their Harleys almost like a religion. I am sorry. I would rather be riding my motorcycle than repairing it. And I want to know that I am safe riding it.

Drama queen. I have two Harleys, a 2007 Sportster and a 2005 Softail, and they run pretty fine, with more than 80,000 km each. No issues. What I've observed from others is lack of maintenance when mechanical issues arise, and by that I mean real lack of maintenance, like no oil change even after 20,000 km or past five years. Really? And I think the idea that a Harley is an indestructible machine is deeply ingrained in those owners, which aren't a few. So things happen and they blame poor quality and no reliability of the machine. I've seen it directly too many times. And I've seen few Sportster, which are well and properly maintained, that surpass the 250,000 km with no top or bottom end service at all ever. So, yeah, I've seen too many drama queens too.

I've got a great solution to this mess - Stop buying these under ENGINEERED over priced unreliable piles of junk like they've been building since their inception- I've got a sheriff's Deputy friend of mine who bought a brand new Road King 20 years ago, left it completely stock, got it routinely serviced as required, and broke down twice trying to make a simple trip from LA to Sturgis- first a stator LITERALLY caught fire, melting down the wiring harness, and having to leave it at the HD dealership in Vegas for repairs, and then having to RENT another bike from Eagle Rider, then the following year, tried again to make the trip to Sturgis, THIS TIME having a complete transmission failure, again having to rent another bike to finish his 2nd nightmarish trip to Sturgis - And this was a bike with less than 20,000 miles on it - JOKE!! so he finally gave up, went to a HONDA dealer and bought a brand new VTX 1800- he's got over 45,000 miles on it with no issues whatsoever- it's never (and never will) broken down, left him stranded in the middle of the fucking Las Vegas desert and he's made 4 more uneventful trips to Sturgis since then- Nothing but tires, brake pads and oil changes- WHAT WARRANTY?? and it was HALF the price of that pile of shit that they DARE to call a "Motorcycle" -And they wonder why their SALES are down 30% world wide-

People slagging off warrantys on new bikes need to back off ! most manufacturers warrantys do the job its intended to do. BMW Motorrad warranty is awesome ! the point is HD needs to reigned in so they cover what everyone covers on their machines. the problem is they don't want to, its basically an admission that they KNOW they have terrible reliability issues, they simply won't admit it. Sure they look pretty, but it aint gonna make it enjoyable to ride if it doesn't work and you're constantly having to fix it. so, if you want reliable, buy european or japanese, problem solved, HD's problem will be sales.

But anybody who chooses to buy an EFI bike, and I certainly don't recommend it (All H-D Sportsters and full sized bikes through the end of the Twin Cam era can be converted to carburetors, something I DO highly recommend. It won't cost you any more than a $1000 tuner and wide band O2 sensors. And you will get rid of all those unreliable and failure prone computerized electronics, and make it super easy to work on and tune your bike. But if you do want to put an aftermarket exhaust on your EFI Harley Davidson motorcycle, it WILL require a NON EPA approved tuner, and new wide band O2 sensors. It's the only way to get the air/fuel mixture rich enough to prevent burning up your engine. And since Harley Davidson started kissing the EPA's ass, you will NEED both an aftermarket exhaust and tuner to make you bike sound like a Harley should. I really don't care if H-D goes out of business. They no longer make real Harleys anymore, and certainly don't make anything I want. I have never been a fan of H-D, only the bikes they USED to make. The M8 engine bikes are as smooth as a Honda Goldwing, and sound about like one as well. They do not meet my definition of a "Harley" And they just discontinued the Sportster, the only bike they made that could still reasonably be called a REAL Harley. So since H-D no longer has a reason for existence, it is time for them to go bye bye. They have betrayed their customers, their company, and their heritage. And they need to pay for that.

Most HD riders I've met know nothing about motorcycles, AND they're terrible riders. They're OK at going in a straight line in a group, that's about it. There were three 20+ year HD riders in the MSF returning rider course a few years ago when I started riding again after 30 years. They were awful, couldn't turn in less than a 50 foot radius, put their feet down all the time, really just almost no skills. They got way better in just 3 hours of time on the range, which leads me to believe that they have spent less than 3 hours in their previous 20 years actually working on any skills. I spend hours a year in a parking lot working on skills. HDs are mostly jewelry for dentists that wear leather on the weekend. There are certainly exceptions. I've met HD riders who are skilled, ride a bunch of different types of bikes, and are excellent mechanics. But from what I can tell that's about 1 in 50 riders.

The presenter has a nice voice but his script is unclear, even to this aged biker who practised law for decades. Three issues appear to be there and they are presented as one which I suspect is not the case. Many of us are not U.S.A. resident and are unfamiliar with the goings on there. So even more confusing. The major issue I think I grasped: (1) If you buy a new H.D. motorcycle the company provide you with the minimum length of warranty which the law insists on? Some of the warranty provisions are not told to the buyer? If so, immensely odd! And, if during thev warranty period non- H.D. parts are fitted such can invalidate the entire warranty? Here in the U.K. such has always been the case with most or all sellers (certainly since I started biking in the 60s) and is reasonable, strictly provided that the seller dealer exercises this provision fairly - reasonably linking a parts failure to a non-standard part fitted. The thing to bear in mind with warranties is that if they are unfair a buyer always has alternative rights either embodied within statute or common law. So, a warranty booklet never comprehensively controls the legal playing field. But such can be an academic point when, as nearly always, legal fees are far greater than whatever sum of money one seeks by way of compensation! (2) I was unable to even get to the start line on points 2 and 3. Something appears to be preventing a H.D. owner from using the services of a non-H.D. dealership? No idea what this is about? (3) Again likewise on this point, clueless what the message was? There are two types of parts - offical H.D. parts and copycat parts? Something appears to be preventing non-H.D. dealerships sourcing one or both categories? If so, this may be indirectly making it impractical to utilise the services of a non-H.D. dealership to carry out servicing / repairs? If so, then I accept that such intertwines points 2 and 3. Please bear in mind when presenting videos, particularly when such involve technical legal issues, that we the watchers (for whatever reason) are in the main not already sharply in tune with such matters. We need to be sequentially led through the issues in a way that a bright eleven year old listener would comprehend. Being patronising in this instance to us listeners would be appreciated.

I can say that I am planning on purchasing a new vehicle soon, but even that is going to be almost 10 years old, and the moment I get it, I will likely be changing a whole lot of mechanical systems to operate much better and will likely rebuild the engine while I'm at it so that I can squeeze every bit of efficiency out of it that is typically lost to the mass production, such as a port and polish on the head.

It would be nice if Harley would sell a bike that wouldn’t require a Stage 1 before it rolls out the door to simply run like it should. EPA regs aren’t going away, so the least HD could do is produce a bike that sounds good (not crazy loud) and runs well (no artificial leanness to strangle the engine). All stock. But then they couldn’t sell us a solution to a problem they created. I stopped buying into the Harley bullshit on my third bike. After that I saw what HD was really about: stroking us off with the soft hand of nostalgia while stealing our wallets with the cold hand of corporate greed. And that was back in the mid 2000’s for me, so I’ve watched HD get exponentially worse over the last two decades.

Harley's new Pan America seems to run well and makes competitive power, but it's offended the 'purist' Harley owners who want their old bikes to stay like they were. But...with modern emissions requirements including noise, the air cooled engines are really difficult to bring into compliance so you get the hot running strangled engines. I really like the old bikes...simple, easier to work on and if it should have a problem the aftermarket is there with parts to fix it. Being a 'consumer' is the worst thing that ever happened to motorcycling...people that just want to ride but not do the maintenance...then bitch about paying someone else to do it for them. We do ALL of our own wrenching and have for 45 years and I hope we have a new group of riders coming up who want to get dirt under their fingernails to earn the privilege of riding a bike.

I am the only person to touch my motorcycles with a wrench. I did try to purchase a new bike and went to 2 Harley dealerships. Both times the salesmen tried to get me to purchase extended warranties. I told them politely no thank you as i perform all my own repairs. You'll get the bike back at 1500 miles for the break in service to keep the factory warrantee in force in case of major repairs but that's it. You will not see my bike again after that. Not even for an oil change. They did not want to hear that and kept bringing me quotes with service contracts attached. I said you guys must be idiots and walked out. Went and bought a yamaha cruiser and promptly put 40.000 miles on it with std. maintenance. No issues whatsoever. I work on Harleys all the time now on the side. If you put good parts in them and do proper maintenance they are as reliable as any bike out there. Harley has for too long been gouging it's customer base and people are fed up with corporate greed. These lawsuits are going to cost them big time. In terms of lost customers, service and maintenance issues that will have to be paid by them and loyalty. Screaming Eagle parts are the parts that should have been installed as standard equipment to begin with. They are not upgraded parts, hell aftermarket parts are better than screaming eagle. Ford would not cover a new car if the owner made similar upgrades. Where the problem lies is as stated in the video an aftermarket exhaust upgrade should not nullify a transmission failure repair under warranty. I recently purchased an ultra limited. I won't do any upgrades until the warranty period expires. I'm not giving a bean counter any reason to deny any warranty claim. All my services are being performed at the dealership I purchased it from. All I will do is check fluids and tire pressure. If anything breaks its on them.

I fully agree that you should be able to do what you like with your property, but I also agree with HD voiding your warranty. If your engine grenades why should they be responsible when it's not their parts in it or a bad aftermarket tune? Modify at your own risk.

Bit of a stretch to say this affects all motorcycle owners - for one thing, I live in the UK, and for another, both my bikes are over 40 years old and I do all my own maintenance.

Harley should be a case study for marketing and business operation tricks. They’ve been conning people into buying their substandard bikes for decades, with nothing new to offer other than paint schemes, while simultaneously treating their customers like trash. There was a case a few years ago where Harley voided a warranty when an owner’s transmission failed- because the owner had installed a non-Harley Davidson branded American flag on his bike.
