This is temporary and pretty much inevitable. The people who are ride or die with the old school HD are getting up there in age and the younger people aren't as enamored with the brand for various reasons. Not doing something on the DEI front early enough, along with the lack of technical innovation, has been killing the brand. I can pretty much guarantee that if they fire the leadership that they're just going to get either private equity to strip the thing and sell it off or more efforts to shift the brand to something that is marketable now. I grew up loving the HD look, but the bikes are way overpriced and aren't as reliable as other brands. And, there are other brands now that make bikes that look just as good, with better performance. I did rent an HD years ago and it was an extremely comfortable ride, but it's also a ride for a type of riding that an increasing number of younger people don't have time for and fewer even have the money to buy one new.

Personally, I don’t care because I am not a collector. The scene has been about customization so who cares? Multiple reasons. 1) abnormally low interest rates for the last 20 years. 2) Sixty month and longer loans allow for low payments, combine with reason #1 3) Economics of scale. Cars are made by the millions allowing a relatively lower cost per unit. 4) Where a car is a necessity, which drives price competition, motorcycles are generally a luxury item due to their lack of general utility. Luxury goods always cost more.

This is all crazy. Indian still has "woke“ policies even though they removed some of the wording from the public website. This shouldn’t deter people from buying Indian motorcycles. People shouldn’t be deterred from buying Harley over these dei “woke“ policies either. This all prompted me to do a little research that anyone can look up. So far I’ve found Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Triumph all have dei and woke policies. They all are doing the same. I don’t agree with the policies but you literally can’t buy a motorcycle that isn’t “woke“. With a little more searching you can find that you also can’t buy groceries, clothing, automobiles, watch movies, listen to music, or buy any other goods or services without supporting a woke company. Much of it is mandated. Most of these people probably have to attend woke dei and other training at work every year. People have been fooled to hate Harley for years without any actual knowledge or experience and now they are fooling Harley riders to hate and give up their own bikes. Point is ride what you like. Comments with suggestion for owners at the end: HD bikes: judge the bikes on their own performance/value/etc., not the corporate suits. HD Dealers: judge your dealers on their service and commitment to customers. Some are good, some are bad, just like EVERY brand of bike (or car, boat, etc). But like this excellent video suggests, don't take out anger about HQ on your local dealers. Or auction-house, etc. They're victims like you. HD HQ: So, this is where the problems arose. However, they likely didn't initiate the changes. The ROOT CAUSE of the problems is simple: #1 - publicly traded companies are owned by the shareholders, who also elect the BoD (board of directors) who's job is to hire and fire CEOs, who's job is to set a course and guide the company. #2 - Unless your company has piles of money in the bank (Warren Buffet's company is an exception) it uses bank credit (LoC) for cash to operate. The cost of that cash depends on the interest rate set by your bank. Its not a fixed rate for businesses, like for consumers. The bank can change it on a whim. #3. Both the companies AND the banks are controlled by their largest shareholders, which are BlackRock, Vanguard, and StateStreet. They DICTATE to everyone. #4. When the ESG bull-crap came out, companies got an ESG score. Low performers were given time to "fix things", but if their score didn't go up enough they would get punished with higher interest rates from their bank. This increase in operating cost could be anough to make the difference between a business being viable, or going bankrupt. So, when the banksters told Budweiser: you need to up your score or else ... well, you know how that went. Its probably the exact same at HD. (and Target, Tractor Supply, John Deer, etc) #5. For those who don't know, this is what ESG stands for: E = Equality = socialism/communism S = Sustainability = de-population G = Governance, which includes "Public Private Partnerships" which is Fascism. Its nasty, evil stuff, but you already know who's behind it. SUGGESTION FOR HARLEY OWNERS Use the international "distress sign" of "turning your flag upside-down" (you'll see a lot of upside-down maple-leaf flags in Canada, signaling: "I like my country, but I don't like the folks who are currently running it"). If you have removeable HD badges, try to install them upside-down. If you don't, consider buying HD stickers, and applying over the name, but upside-down. It signals that you like your bike, but you don't like the folks at HQ. THIS WILL ALL PASS! Keep riding. I hope to see you on the road!

Woke is a term that’s used to describe a person who’s aware of their surroundings and the events taking place around them. The opposite of woke is to be dull and uncaring about things that affect one’s life, allowing ridiculous actions to continue without protest. A lot of folks seem to be aware that something stinks with the HD brand and, like it or not,y’all fit the definition of woke. That’s actually a good thing.

Will, one of my favorite bikes was a Harley VRSCDX and I regret having sold it. IDK what's going on now with the brand and this pre-election craziness but I have seen that Indian has been building better motorcycles with more features for less money than Harley for a long time now. The backlash from customers realizing that Harley didn't have their best interests in mind was a long time coming, I think. I just didn't see it coming in this political way. Best to you and yours.

The MoCo headshot most of the small dealers decades ago by requiring massive facility investments which did NOTHING for the customer but were a debt trap for the rich financiers who bought their franchise. There is no reason for bikers to care about the current company at all because the do not need it to support their machines (which WILL like all previous models eventually have factory support dropped then taken over by the reliable community-based indy shops). Low used values are wonderful because they lower the barrier to entry. Motorcycles are TOYS not investments (Vincent, Crocker, and other rarities might beat an index fund but little else does) and cheaper toys for everyone is what kickstarted the chopper movement. When you could buy a Pan or Shovel for a few hundred bucks used any motivated youth could get on the road. I'm fine with those days returning. Flip the patch and FTF. They don't even make the machines which built the company so no one needs them any more.

I’ve been saying this for over seven years now. Harley Davidson‘s target demographic is not an American buyer. They have been focusing their sales efforts in Asia for 7+ years now. It’s not a secret, it’s not a new discovery, the proof has been in the products Harley Davidson has been delivering in the United States for well over seven years. Except for a $36000 e-bike, every Harley Davidson you can buy new in 2024 is the same bike you could’ve bought in 2021.

Uh, no, not the CVO with the 121. Not that I'd ever own a HD again. Been there, done that, had a Milwaukee 8 model... and it's an engineering piece of cheap ass parts. Plastic pushrod guides, plastic cam chain followers, plastic primary chain followers and tensioners that are crap and bound to fail. Oil pumps that allow oil sumping and engine damage in the crankcase from 2017 to until 2020 models started being built. 7 revisions in the design of that oil pump, before they claim they finally got it right.

It may be too early for the S&S intake? Regardless of the decisions made by H-D, we as riders need to respect one another and enjoy the freedom that we have… while we still have it. “Merika!”

I am hung up just knowing the CEO that is trying to sabotage the brand is banking 40 million a year? That company does not need my money. And the shenanigans that they played doing a cash deal instead of the finance routine was ludicrous. The pressure to buy what you can technically "afford" monthly is really artful. lol

So, Harley made reached out to LBGTQ entrepreneurs, donated to United Way, and wanted to increase the diversity of its employees and, I assume, its customer base. I can understand disagreeing with some of what they did but the anger from Harley owners completely baffles me. I have had lots of bikes from different companies and I judge the bikes using motorcycle standards: handling, cost, power, etc. this whole anti-woke movement just underscores that HD owners care more about lifestyle than product quality.

In the UK (GB) there has been at least 5-6 H/d dealership fold! Mainly according to one HD owers channel due to the way Harley has miss managed it's market! But you have given sound advice to any H/D owner, in other words times will change, I have friends who have both either H/D or Indians (not my style of bike) but I do prefer the Indian, which has moved on with the times a we bit more. One could feel sorry for H/D with upgrades but backlash from older owners. H/D should have said it's time to improve but didn't! H/D is regarded as a overpriced product for a out of date motorcycle, their only so could new bike the Pan America looks like it has born in a garden shed made of dust bin lids, and that's the market I am interested in!
