To all the haters, chill. People who are going to use this are mainly vloggers and people who couldn't afford, and honestly don't need, an audio engineer. It's a bit like a photographer getting mad at cellphone cameras: sometimes you just need something that's good enough. Just like people don't shoot ads and movies with a tablet, studios are not going to deliver ads and movies mastered with an "audio butler". Chill out people ✌ -- (EDIT: I don't use or plan to use this plugin)

Like most packages, its success depends on what it is you are editing. I have a 13-minute video that has lots of music, soundFX, and voice. It takes me 1.5-2 house using keyframes to get the sounds I want but with Alex Audio Butler it took me 15 minutes. Note that I am not editing for a full length Hollywood feature film. But for my 13 minute VLOG, it does the job well.

I had heard about the Alex Audio Butler plugin about a year ago. Then the other day I watched your video on it and had to check it out for myself. WOW! I sure could have used this back in the day for creating commercials and promos when I worked in radio. I am a video editor now but was a DJ for 23 years. The keyframes are not Premiere Pro keyframes. Everything that's happening in the background is based on proprietary algorithms in the Alex Audio Butler engine. The idea behind the plug-in is that it's easy to use and requires no knowledge about automation so keyframes are not needed.

In the amount of time it takes to "analyze" the audio I could have had that mixed, exported and delivered to the client. It's has potential but it needs to be faster AND AI is still not to the point where it can replace human emotion which is just as important doing sound editing/mixing as visual editing. As an editor I also want full control... to be able to go in and tweak my settings to the finest degree. Three buttons of different compressions isn't good enough. It's interesting but not something I would buy just yet.

Love this! I tentatively clicked the like button though. In engineering they teach us to only use the "black box" when you know what the black box is doing. Now, this is great for professionals and amateurs alike-but I have a word of caution for those just starting out. I think this will do to the actual knowledge, application, and skill of mastering techniques (such as creating an actual EQ valley where the voice can nestle in, instead of just lowering music in a flat way; and how compressors work; and how to master to audio book standards or broadcast standards like EBU R128; etc.) as what the advent of plugins and easy-to-use filters did to the actual skill and applied concepts, the art and science, behind color correction and color grading... people started blindly using filters to the point where blacks were crushed in an unpurposeful manner, or colors were skewed beyond recognition-and editors wondered why their video didn't truly look "cinematic" even if they did rent a Red Raven. Run on sentence, I know! But all that said, plugins like this make tasks easier, and efficiency is key, but understanding of techniques should still be sought after ;-) Great update on something new in the industry!

I've now used it. Not gonna say it's ready for primetime. I discovered some very substantial bugs that make it basically unusable for a professional at this particular moment. 1) With the plugin applied, scrubbing through audio does not work properly. They semi-fixed it in a beta version, but it still doesn't play through the entirety of the sound in any given frame, which is crippling when editing dialog. 2) When two music tracks overlap, specifically when you're ending one song and bringing up another, weird things happen. Music ducks up and down dramatically for no apparent reason, even with the music ducking turned to subtle. I'm a big fan of what they're doing, and I have every confidence that this plugin is as groundbreaking as I first thought when I watched this demo, but it's just not there yet. I've reported both these bugs to the AAB folks, and they're working on it, but don't go putting your mission:critical projects in the hands of this thing just yet.
@periurban5 жыл бұрын
Kit, from what I see the plug in isn't meant to be in place when editing? It looks to me like something you apply towards the end of the process. As for music cross-fades, perhaps you might have to treat the fade as a separate entity, and either bounce the fade down, or just allow that section to take care of itself. Again, something to do late in the process. I haven't used it myself, but I look on with interest as a music producer. I imagine this technology applied to kick drum, snare, hihat, toms, cymbals, bass, poly keys, lead instrument, voice, backing vocal, orchestra etc etc. With further refinements intended for mixing music this could be a really creative tool.
@riparianstudios5 жыл бұрын
@@periurban For sure I'd say this should be applied at the end, but "the end" can be a little bit of a moving target when you work with clients. Last minute edits are common. As for your workaround on the music, but because AAB is assigned to a whole track and not to a a clip, I'd have to chop my music off, put it onto another track, and fade my music out there. Further I'd likely deal with some weirdness going from the music compression and sweetening AAB does to the raw audio file on the track with no AAB applied. Again, this is not to suggest that AAB isn't promising, but it created enough problems when I tried to use it on a test project that I would be afraid to apply it on a real life mission critical project.

@TheNewton5 жыл бұрын
Machine learning(ML) may not be A.I in the scifi sense, but it's become ridiculously easy to train your "A.I" for a specific skillset; here it's probably speech recognition so any track marked voice is less ambiguous when a person is talking vs noise, maybe a dosh of sentiment analysis for leveling loudness vs emphasis, and probably an A.I. trained on a data set of video timelines with "good" audio vs bad references.

Does this VST plugin also work with Davinci Resolve?
@elissitdesign5 жыл бұрын
Video Media Art - He said at the beginning “only Premiere”. I recently made the switch. I find this tool useless in Resolve because of the superior Fairlight workflow. There is a ducking feature already and manual is the way to go usually for pro work.

yes, VST plugins work in Resolve but you don't need this plugin since Resolve has a built in audio ducking feature. Watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3jRgKOdqrKYe9k

PLEASE NOTE: Alex Audio Butler stopped working with PPro 2023. You can apply it, but saving your project will cause PPro to crash. AAB will NOT be updated. The company has launched a new stand-alone app called END BOOST (stupid name) and is expecting that we will pony-up $249 each year to use it. Not me. It takes a little extra time to use the PPro tools to do the same thing but certainly not worth $249 a year.

This could be great, but what if you want to get more specific with your audio? The AI won't be able to work out every situation with its base settings - how could it, too many possibilities. But if you could use the AI to get the basic work down and then add your own ramps, eq, compression on top of that... That would be something. That said, it's never a good idea to add compression over another compression so from what I'm seeing here you're stuck with what Alex wants to do. Think of it like Adobe's Warp Stabilizer, with that tool you can choose to use anything from a simple positioning of keyframes to a full subspace warp to get the job done. And I can guarantee you the Alex Audio compressor and EQ won't fit all situations or needs so giving you the option to still use your own would be a great update in the future (unless I'm missing something and it's already there). What I do love about this though, at least there are some options to work with, Abode's own upcoming AI plug Awesomize only has one button so the same issues will apply but with no recourse to correct anything. Also, in the second example, the compression on the vocal mix was horrible (IMO)... But it was also an all in one clip so too many elements baked in to make it clean. I would have had a separate track for the noise floor, foley, and dialogue to get complete control over the mix. Does Alex work in that kind of manner as well? Or, what if you just want to use Alex for the dialogue track but want to keep your own musical and foley mix? Can Alex make changes to the assigned track while only listening but not affecting the surrounding ones? It'd be great to have more options! Awesome start though, interested to see where it goes from here, it just doesn't seem ready for more demanding workloads yet.

Alex Audio Butler isn't for audio professionals, at this point anyway. It's a "set it and forget it" kind of effect and it works perfectly for me.
@sixcentsmedia5 жыл бұрын
What would be genius is if you could take a horribly mixed song that you may receive from someone and it only has one track, the final mix, to be able to run the Audio Butler software over that single track and separate the different sounds into their own individual tracks, run the software again over the new tracks and it adjusts the volume of said tracks for a final mix.
