Chorus:
One thing I ask, this alone I seek, to dwell in the house of the Lord all my days. For one day within His temple heals every day alone. O Lord, bring me to your dwelling.
Vs.1
Hear, O Lord, the sound of my calling. Hear, O Lord, and show me your way
Vs. 2
The Lord is my light and hope of salvation. The Lord is my refuge; whom should I fear
Vs. 3
Wait on the Lord, and hope in His mercy. Wait on the Lord, and live in his love.

Today, at Adoration, this song came to mind... and I discovered that the lyrics make a beautiful prayer in front of the Holy Eucharist...

I went to Tenebrae tonight and psalm 27 was part of the readings. This song popped into my head instantly and I had to come home and hear it. Thank you

You’re welcome! And this is a gorgeous piece. These St Louis Jesuit songs were right at the beginning of my formative years of singing and playing in church

Recently led the worship music for a Dedication Mass for our parish's new building. One of the parts of the rite--- I think it was where they anoint the the walls with oil--- required "Psalm 84 or another appropriate song". My pastor didn't like the Psalm 84 setting I picked, and I didn't like the one he picked. The pastoral assistant said, "what about a Psalm 27 setting since we can pick something else appropriate?", and then I remembered this song based on Psalm 27. He approved. I pretty much modeled my guitar arrangement after yours as best as I could. It worked really well for that part of the rite. So, thanks for posting!

Beautiful, thank you. Reminds me of peaceful times as a child sitting in Mass, quite bored, except for when this song was sung. :)

Great job. I like your tempo. Music show 80 bpm and your finger picking roll at 96 bpm ish I like more. I’ll probably play with a pick and will see where I end up landing tempo wise. Sped up though really helps with the melodic whole notes. Thanks Chris

Thank you for picking up on all that, you’re clearly a pretty knowledgeable musician. I’ve been a music minister in the Catholic Church since the early 1980’s, so my tempos are often more reflective of how I would do the song at mass, not necessarily the tempo that the publisher/composer recommends. I would have a hard time doing this one quite as slow as 80. Sometimes I even contact the composer and ask if this is really the “correct” tempo or if I have a little leeway. I do ebb and flow a bit with my tempos during the song, because I’m doing it by myself. If I were doing it with a group I’d make a little more of an effort to maintain my tempo throughout. Anyway, thank you for your comments and best of luck with everything!

You should here some of my interpretations. A young girl moved here recently and is singing in choir. (and choir is often just me on guitar though Sundays sometimes I have keys and bass). Anyways, she and her husband had "How Can I Keep from Singing" at their church and at their wedding. But they really did it totally different. Mine is almost a bluegrass feel. I occasionally have changed measure lengths or dropped or added measures to make something be even. I feel that helps the congregation in coming back in for the next verse. I don't think most writers would have a problem with the changes we make. Peace be with you Chris. Frazier@@ChrisBrunelle

@@ChrisBrunelle Do you watch "Jesus of Nazareth" (1977)? 6 hours and 20 minutes. BUT SO WORTH IT! I watch it once before Christmas and once before Holy Week every year. I also like to watch Mel Gibson's "The Passion" (2004) during Lent. I also like to make sure I watch "The Chronicles of Narnia" before Holy Week. (The 1988-90 saga actually follows C.S. Lewis's saga of books pretty well.)
