America is known for it's Diners, they are the backdrop for many Hollywood Movies, with the booths that you can sit in and endless refills of coffee, the only issue is some of them are dives and this one in New York City located in The Financial District is rather expensive. You'd better have plenty of cash with you! The MacMaster went to review an American Breakfast and it almost bankrupt him including the tip!

What surprised me at the memorial gardens was how so quiet it is, especially when you consider how loud it is in New York. So eerie, and very emotional

American here. Yes, we have the triangular, preformed hash browns in the US like you see in the UK. In fact, that's what the US McDonald's restaurants serve as "hash browns" for breakfast. (US grocery stores also sell them in the frozen food aisle.) They're not my favorite. You're right: Real American hash browns should be fried, shredded potatoes like "bubble and squeak," and they're even better if you add either diced onions or diced bacon to them. 😉

FWIW, that fire truck that passed you at the end was Engine Co. #4, housed (along with Tower Ladder #15) in the fire house at the corner of Wall St. & South St. Many New Yorkers know the numbers of their local FDNY companies. Mine are Engine 40 and Ladder 35, which live right at the corner of Lincoln Center.

Great video , Lee. Wonderful opening shot again. 🤣Starbucks is shat coffee, my friend. Their Pikes place is not horrendous but what a pie hole store. You love the armpit local stores and I do too. Best to get your coffee there. Ice Cube Lee on display again. lol. The 911 stuff gets me because the whole thing was preventable and people in power did nothing to stop it. (completely my own view) LOL, about ten years ago, I sang 'I'm a barbie girl " at work for a solid week on time, My coworkers hated my guts at the end of the week. We were all laughing together though. Diners in America are hit or miss. Never eat at a place called Silver Diner, five dollars a plate for every single item lol. two eggs five dollars - two slices of bacon five dollars - two piece of toast five dollars -coffee-five dollars , butter. five dollars. lol...naw...but you get the idea. The finest places you will ever buy breakfast in America are the hole in the wall restaurants in a small hole on the sidewalk in a big building run by wonderful Chinese or Vietnamese or Muslim or any other people who are just trying to make a living, The carryout trays of food they make, are breakfast artwork. Beautifully made food for the pound that cannot be matched. I hope you get to enjoy one of these little armpit places of supreme culinary joy. The people who work at these places are amazing Americans and the food they make is a true joy to eat.

Your comments about smiling reminded me of this fantastic poem by the incredible Spike Milligan: "Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu, When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too. I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin. When he smiled I realized I'd passed it on to him. I thought about that smile, then I realized its worth. A single smile, just like mine could travel round the earth. So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected. Let's start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected!"

Those fountains at the memorial were beautiful very, very sad. my wife & I went to the Towers a few months after 911 & it was heart wrenching just standing there watching the workmen still removing the debris, horrible. we only went as my uncle was a priest in New York & he insisted we go a pay our respects by tying flowers to the temporary fence they put up, my wife got so emotional. sorry Lee I'll move on. That breakfast looked awful & for $21 plus tip it was worth watching just to warn people to stay away. Onwards

Great video there was article in the times about the death of diners in America. With rent prices going up and inflation up it's very hard for diners to stay in business. One up in Harlem bacon and eggs and coffee is $20 no coffee or bacon it's 10 and that includes home fries. I like hash browns better than home fries barely any diner does hash browns in NYC which is shaved potatoes. If u get a omlette and meat on side and coffee. it's a lot more for lox eggs and steak eggs or Irish bfast are the most. Lots of diners close in city my fav the Broadway on 101& Broadway closed during summer. No diner gives you coffee and juice with meal anymore and that used to be standard.

Hey Lee, Enjoyed the vid. I feel that was a high price for a breakfast but a lot of things are expensive in NYC nowadays. I would recommend going to the south east the next time you go to the US. Lot's of great food there, and also sights to see. My family is from GA, and I would recommend the Varsity, Jr's log house and the waffle house if you ever go down to the Atlanta area. I would recommend that you go to a baseball, basketball or Football game when you next to go to the US. Keep up the vids Lee!

Great Video 👍. We first visited the U.S. in 1993 and then New York was expensive compared to Florida, But now all the prices eating out right across America have risen out of control. It's got to the point that with the price rises and poor £ to $ rate and then adding Tax and 20% tip that for a 2 week holiday for a British family it's really not worth visiting especially when you can save a few thousand pound by going 5 STAR all inclusive in Mexico or the Caribbean.

A New Yorker told me once, when I was visiting there, that New Yorkers don't like people looking at them (staring at them?). It might be a pychological thing because it's so crowded there with people constantly close to you and they instinctively try and guard their small amount of private space. So maybe over there people are less tolerant of people filming around them and that's why the waitress said it wasn't allowed.
