I remember when you’re first doing KZbin and you mostly overlooked Engl amps. I’ve been a fan of Engl amps forever especially the Blackmore and Fireball. My first YT demo was of the FB60. Just did a few on the Blackmore recently. Glad you are finally grinding some Engl’s brother! Recorded a ton on music with mine!

I put a graphic eq in front on my board. Fixes any deficiency in the eq of the amp.

I feel like listening to you talk about it, and the videos done earlier with the SE, FB100, and AE100, it would seem like the FB100 is still kind of the "king". I pre-ordered this SE w/ EL34's, have an FB100 on the way, and currently have the AE100 KT77 limited run (Axe Palace), which I LOVE. Should be interesting to compare all three when the SE arrives in December

I don't miss any hi end what so ever. Maybe due to your sm57 setup. For my taste I'd roll of the treble or presence in most of the examples and I think it would cut through the mix like a flex. Might be different from what you heard. I could suggest to mix in a condenser from a more distant position to get closer to the actual sound in the room but it would spoil the comparability with your other vids. I really enjoyed that one anyway - great job!

I personally liked the original SE better on your other review And that was an EL34, this one was a 6L6 I think, which I normally prefer I know EL34s generally sound a bit tighter (than 6L6), but this one didn't do it for me Maybe it was the mic placement or something - maybe it was the overall lack of a pedal on this one. I heard more harshness on the top, without as much of the ENGL growly, pleasing bottom end. Might have been the recording, or the dialing lacked lows.

@@ShadovvV I can get those tones on my Boss Katana. But i'm sure it sounds and feels different if you were actually playing it in the room. KZbin has a strange way of making all these high-gain amps sound the same. At least on my end. I have really good speakers hooked-up to my PC, so I know it's not a "crappy speaker" issue.

@@TheCyberMantis - True.. but the real challenge is how or even IF it would fit into a dense mix. Even some vintage or high end Marshall amps have issues with that sometimes. It's a delicate balance between grit and shit.

@@metalmeister3054- I've owned several Peavey amps over the years and honestly, I've never really liked the 5150. It sounded far too 'raw' to my ears. The only Peavey amp I ever liked was the VTM 120. I sold it though because I'm trying to be more of a Marshall guy. lol Even then, it still seems the most sought after are the vintage types. Some people say the newer JVM410HJS for example, can do the old Marshall thing -somewhat, but I still think those have a weird type of digital bite to them as well. Maybe it's just the updated circuitry or newer components they're putting in them or something, but every newer amp I've heard over the past 15 years sounds rather digital to my ear. Almost every brand really. They all sound like amp simulators, not actual traditional tube amplifiers. Honestly, I think it's a bit strange. Maybe there's something wrong with the components they're putting on the new circuit boards. They just don't sound the same to my ears anymore. I'm sure you could probably fool me in a blind test though because there are a shit ton of other aspects to take into consideration, so even videos like this here still seem rather pointless to me. Think about it: Guitar type, pickups, string tuning, mic, signal chain, etc.. ALL of those are factors, among other things. Even the player and the acoustics of the room.
