Finished Monster two weeks ago for the first time. Even nowadays it's absolutely amazing. Johan's definitely one of the best antagonists ever. P.S.: You'll definitely enjoy it off-camera more. The show is pretty slow, and there is not much space for your usual crazy reactions, you're right.

If you ever get to seeing Monster, here’s a brief synopsis: Monster is about a doctor from Japan who’s well known and well liked in the hospital he works at in Germany. One day, two patients come in, a boy with a bullet wound in his head and the mayor of the town, and he chooses to operate on the boy leaving the mayor to die. A few years later, a murder happens and the doctor is framed for it so now he goes on the run to find out the truth behind the murder as well as gain some knowledge on the boy he saved. The cool thing is the year this story takes place is after the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. I know I say this almost EVERY time, but Monster is another special favorite of mine because the two main characters, Kenzo Tenma, the doctor and the hero, and Johan Liebert, the villain and my all time favorite, can be either liked or hated. Monster falls into the category if you like mystery, suspense or thriller😊

Just to clarify, the boy came in first & the mayor came in later as he was prepping for the boy. He was pulled from a patient once before, to work on someone of higher status that came in later. The patient he was pulled from died due to incompetence of their replacement surgeon & favoritism from the Director of the hospital. He wasn't going to allow that to happen again. Dr. Tenma didn't just "eenie meenie miney moe" it. He chose to help who came in first & trusted the mayor to be taken care of by his peers & they failed but he was punished for it.

@@Ken-un9jb not necessarily. Slow pacing can be good if done properly. It's not the case for monster sadly. There's a lot of useless episodes which if you were to remove from the show completely nothing would've changed story wise. It should've been 25-30 episodes at max.

Honestly, you should just watch this masterpiece off-camera. On camera, you will miss half of what's happening and half of it will just go over head. Its a slow psychological anime, its like death note but with loong ass pace. Its an incredible watch. Also, just in case you watch this on camera i swear if you don't take it seriously and just make a joking reaction then i will hate you forever. This is the kind of anime that deserves respect.
