@@jdktoo well let me copy paste this from the OFFICIAL AUDI MEDICENTER. "The Audi R18 e-tron quattro is Audi’s hybrid pioneer in racing. In 2012, Audi was the first manufacturer to enter a hybrid sports car in the newly incepted FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). In 2012 and 2013, the company won the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles in the WEC with its drivers. In the Le Mans 24 Hours, the diesel-electric hybrid drive remained unbeaten three consecutive times from 2012 to 2014". the audi r18 etron is a HYBRID, AUDI SAID IT. the rear wheels are driven by the diesel V6 and the front were driven by the electric motors that older version got their power from the KERS and later switched to having a battery powering those front wheels alongside the diesel.

Fun fact . Audi was the first manufacturer to win lemans with a diesel engine ,and as a celebration they put the "same" engine on street legal cars like the Q7 V12 TDI and almost into the R8. Shouldn't forget about that audi was also the first at lemans to win the endurance championship using a hybrid car!

The year previously to Audi winning with the diesel engine they ran a diesel under the Caterpillar name in a Lola chassis. It was known that the car would not finish the race as there were no gearboxes available able to cope with the torque of that engine. In due course the car retired with a broken gearbox.

Fun fact: Audi copied what BMW had done in other endurance races. BMW had already won endurance races with their diesel BMW 320d, proving the concept. Then Audi went to the dying LeMans series owner and essentially bribed him to give Volkswagen rules which favour their upcoming diesel entry. LeMans was near bankruptcy, basically all manufacturers had abandoned the series, and Audi coming in and bringing big bucks was too much for the LeMans owner to turn down and so they essentially "gave Audi the series" for a number of years. It was all just a big Audi-circus, with the rules known to Audi beforehand and tailored to be exactly what they wanted, giving them an insurmountable advantage compared to everyone else. Not to mention the fact that Audi came in with a massive budget, and not even really entering the series themselves but just paying the most successful existing team to do their operations for them. And they were against little private teams on minuscule budgets.

The Green Audi: The Audi 50 is a small car with a four-cylinder petrol engine and front-wheel drive. The Audi NSU Auto Union AG vehicle (internally: Type 86) was produced from summer 1974 to mid-1978. It was largely identical in construction to the less well-equipped VW Polo I, which was built from 1975 to 1981

@@5co756 Yes, first came the Audi 50, then the VW Polo as a weaker and cheaper variant. Why ? because: VW AG is the parent company of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand and the subsidiaries Seat, Škoda Auto and Audi, as well as the luxury brands Bentley, Ducati (motorcycles), Lamborghini and Porsche. From 2007 to 2011, the Group also expanded its commercial vehicle division (trucks and buses) with the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles division to include the companies MAN and Scania. FROM WIKI: With simple equipment and a smaller engine, the VW Polo was launched in spring 1975 as an economy version of the Audi 50. Its engine produced 29 kW (40 hp) from a displacement of 900 cm³, the stroke having been reduced from 72 to 59 mm. Instead of an automatic starter on the carburetor, as in the Audi, there was a manually operated choke. The Polo only had drum brakes on the front axle and cross-ply tires as standard. It was not until the following year that more powerful engines and better equipment were also offered for the Polo. At the beginning of 1977, the Derby notchback variant, which was also developed at Audi in Ingolstadt, was added to the Polo, which continued to be built.

Once again, I would suggest to you with your car-fandom that you come to the South of Germany. That would probably mean you take a direct flight to Munich. In Munich you have BMW - factory and museum. If you go west, you come to Ingolstadt - just what you are looking at in this video. A bit further west (less than 2 hours by car, I think) is Neu-Ulm with the Magirus/IVECO museum. And finally in Stuttgart you have Daimler Benz, central factories and the museum - and the same again for Porsche in another suburb of Stuttgart. Along the way, you also have lots of great buildings in Munich, the Minster with the world's highest church tower in Ulm (sister city of Neu-Ulm across the river in the next state) and .. and ... and! I'd LOVE to get videos from all of that and more! Also: the beers that are on the less bitter side come mostly from the South.

@@IWrocker If you are in Munich, also visit the "Deutsche Museum Verkehr" ("German Museum for Traffic" if you like dozens of cars, trams and trains, so many iconic trains...) Dop not forget the BMW Museum near to the Olympia park and on the other site of the street, do not miss the BMW world with few historical cars but so many motor bikes and cars from BMW, Rollce Royce and Mini (and all of the restaurants e,g,). This is something for everyone, and you can sit on all motorbikes (if you will be there with your family, do not miss it). If you like planes, do not miss the "Deutsche Museum Flugwerft Schleißheim" north of Munich. In Ingolstadt north of Munich is AUDI with the "AUDI museum mobile"; you have seen in this video only the paternoster lift, of course there are many other historic and recent cars from Horch, DKW, Wanderer, NSU, Auto Union, AUDI, motor bikes, trucks, racing cars and the regular cars. I was already 3x times there...Ingolstadt as city and the "historic army museum" are worth to visit. And important, but you can not recognice it in this video. All the racing cars in the paternoster lift are regular few times a year in show racings, but they are not regular washed. These cars go into the paternoster with all the racing dirt on it, flies sticking on the car front, tar and rubber rests sticking on the car e.g. From 1 meter distance, you can see it with your own eyes. (and I know of a storage park house on the AUDI factory area nearby with 10 times the number of historic and AUDI, Horch e.g cars and racing cars, we will never be able to get there and to visit it). Stuttgart: Porsche Museum with all of the historic cars, racing cars and the iconic 911 Hybrid Evo, the Mercedes Museum. Stuttgart is few hundred km to the west from Munich. By bad luch with no public access (I have to visit it once in my live...) Opel exhibition/museum in Ruesselsheim (near Frankfurt) inside of the OPEL factory, with around 200 cars, motorbikes e.g, but this is only accessible for OPEL workers. All these museums are next to the factories. And if you are there in the south of Germany; do not miss the cities of Bamberg, Regensburg, Augsburg and my personal favorite: Schwaebisch Hall.

Doors that are opend to the back are called 'suicide doors', which makes perfectly sense of course. The tiny green car is the Audi 50, made in the seventies (1974-1978). It's the sibling of the first gen VW Polo btw. The four rings in the Audi logo symbolize the heritage of Audi, being merged from the brands Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. Funny sidenote: Audi is latin and has the same meaning as the german expression Horch', which means listen up!

The silver colour was the German national race colour for international races. British where green, Iralian red and French blue. German cars have been white but in 1932 (if I remember correctly) a Mercedes car was a bit too heavy for the weight limit so the mechanics removed the paint overnight and the car started with the shining pollished Aluminium skin the next day. Later they where called Silber Pfeil (silver arrow, mainly Mercedes) or sometimes also Silber Fisch (silver fish, Audi). The original German white colour was later used by the Japanese.

The history of Audi is a bit complicated, but very interesting. And probably the explanation for why there are motorsycles at the Audi museum. Short story: In the 30's Audi, DKW, Wanderer and Horch merged and created Auto Union to stand stronger against competition. DKW made both motorsycles and cars. They were first bought by Daimler Benz in the 50's, who again sold them to VAG. VAG later also bought NSU, wich was merged together with Auto Union to make the revived Audi brand. And NSU also made motorsycles as well as cars. Read the wikipedia page for Auto Union for more filling information. 😉

Well done! A small addition: Auto Union was a Saxon company. After WW II, it was re-established in West Germany by former managers and new investors. In the early years, the company built small DKW brand cars with smelly two-stroke engines. In 1965 , Auto Union finally introduced four-stroke engines and started to sell the new model range as Audi. At this time, they already belong to Volkswagen (VAG).

All in all, they have lot of cool and very beautiful cars. You might be even lucky to drive one of them when you visit Munich.

Audi Sport Quattro (the red car) had a 2.2l 5cyl engine that produced 306hp (in 1984!), It was 40 cm shorter than the regular coupe and wider. It was the most expensive german car you could buy new. Today they go somewhere between 300k and 500k if in mint condition.

And drink a German beer straight from the tap, experience Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Volkswagen on the Autobahn... Don't waste time, buy a plane ticket and go :-) greetings from the Nortwest of Germany

9:40 Blaupunkt (literally: blue dot) used to be a HiFi/car stereo division of Bosch. Bosch (Robert Bosch GmbH) is the world's largest automotive supplier and 94% owned by a charitable, non-profit foundation. Their profits go to good causes (mostly health and social causes) rather than enriching faceless shareholders.

The yellow one was the first RS4 and while the S4 was available as sedan, the faster RS4 at that time was only available as wagon. That and the fact that there was no 2-door coupe of any A4/S4/RS4 models at all, just made me lose my mind back then. As the first real "power wagon" the RS4 was quite innovative and revolutionary, but up to today I don't get why there was no RS4 Coupe of this beautiful shape. That would have been my car.
