My 4# True Temper Dayton pattern has split more wood than any axe that I own. I have a 5# True Temper Dayton that is normally used for splitting but it has been used far less than its 50 year old brother.

I have the boys axe and like it. Theiir website will tell which have hardened polls. It is not many with the Flying Fox being one. Check out the wrist flick method for axe splitting. Thanks for the video.

If you put a 20 degree edge on a splitting axe it will fold back pretty easily if you are splitting seasoned wood. Put less of an angle on a splitting axe. I use my 5# maul to split seasoned wood.

@@CouncilToolCoUSA universal wedge banger. I'd rather swing a 4 or 5 pound head splitting locust posts than a 6 or 8 bound maul. Or drive a stake with some leverage and accuracy instead of swing a 4lb sledge with a short handle. Thanks for asking that question.

@@CouncilToolCoUSA the true rafting axe would still be popular today. And why not the premier US axe manufacturer. I've almost pulled the trigger a thousand times on your fellers axe and that is always the reason I haven't. I'm looking for an old head. Even has me looking at hardcore hammers axe. But you could produce it at a better price for sure. You can just look at the number of old axes where the poll is mushroomed because people like to hit things with an axe. Sometimes they are metal. Often times they are.
