Hello, Mosh Pit Family! In this video, Jeremy and Braden are checking out a viewer suggestion. For the first time we are checking out Dir En Grey and their song 'Vinushka'! We are excited to bring them on to the channel for the first time, because even not knowing the lyrics as it is in Japanese these guys are extremely talented it's weird lol! This song live and recorded is just a journey but strange at the same time! That is what made us enjoy it as much as we did. Thank you Ad Sa for your suggestion feel free to suggest more songs for anything!

I can't help feeling happy whenever I see people discovering Dir en grey for the first time. They've been my favourite band for 22 years now and before reaction channels started all I could do was recommend them to friends and colleagues; only to get a "That was weird, bro" back a week or so later. Even trying to explain what the band is doing and why I love them so much cannot change their initial opinion and on the one hand I know that is normal and ok because everyone has different tastes and feels connected to different things but on the other hand I always felt like this band has so much to give that they are somehow 'missing out' by not listening to more of their songs or simply listen to the song I recommended a few times more because for most people who aren't already at least familiar with Japanese music their songs aren't easy to get into and it takes a couple of listens to understand the musicianship behind it if not the lyrics - which are poetical, very difficult to translate and for the most part I think not meant to carry a specific meaning but rather cause the listener to think about themselves and the world we are living in. Even though I can see you are not quite sure what to think of the band yet in the video I can also see you are intrigued by what you hear and that is really nice + the response in the comment section seems to initiate further reactions which means you won't give up on them instantly. To me that is a gift and I hope you will like at least some of their music and take away some new thoughts from them! Because reactions make it possible to actually see and hear people _while_ listening to the music it's easier for me to understand what people feel disconcerted by and that is very interesting to me so please don't ever react to a song _just_ with praise because you might think "we don't want to risk saying anything that mihgt enrage the people watching this who love this band so much". I saw some reactors going down that road and it's not a beneficial one for either the reactor nor the viewers because Dir en grey is a band you have to engage with mentally and that's the most interesting thing to see people do in reactions. This video was very good in that aspect and I hope you keep reacting without people's potential opinion in mind! If fans have other thoughts/interpretations or are mad at you for not getting something (there are some very enthusiastic people...) it will just make the comment section that much sprightlier :) - as long as your comments are respectful to the band it's all ok! One thing regarding Dir en grey and to a much larger extend sukekiyo that I would like to add if you keep reaction to live versions and pvs: They can be very theatrical and that can be something to talk about as well. If you don't know anything about performance art and stuff like that don't afraid - you don't need any knowledge - just see those instances as an extension to the music just like music is an extension to the pictures and words in a movie. Sukekiyo are probably the most interesting live act in Rock but they can be very disconcerting to some people (always depends on people's personal experiences/knowledge and attitudes towards certain subjects). PS: I totally forgot I wanted to answer your last question in the video: I always prefer Dir en grey live but the unrestricted video to Vinushka is one of my favourite pvs of all time because it connects so well with the song and provides the viewer with a very concrete example of what the song talks about. To envision the two fast/harsh moments of the song as the bombs being dropped with the black rain as the silent killer in the middle...one part of me always admires that while another simply feels sad to the core whenever I watch this video. One thing to say about the production is that Dir en grey were on a very tight schedule at the time and had to release UROBOROS, the album this song is on, before feeling actually comfortable with the mix. It's the only album that, therefore, received a remastered (and extended) version later.

Wow! I mean where do I start! It’s so cool how you have this strong hard felt connection with Dir En Grey. I am very interested in the band even though I didn’t know how I felt about things while reacting to it (it’s Braden btw hi!) so I do try to be as open minded as I can be! The fact that even without English subtitles or lyrics I was almost able to correctly say what the song seemed to be about (even though in my mind I was far from it) it just shows that maybe I can find a special connection with them too! So I’m not going to give up on them, I will keep listening to them for a while and hopefully find that connection. Thank you for your comment it made for really good reading! Have you thought of writing your own book? Sadly as I am dyslexic lol it took me a bit longer to read but that is a okay with me 😊 I’m speaking for the both of us (Jeremy and I) when I say we’d love to have you join us on our journey together! We have a number of songs with Kyo’s bands that we are going to have to listen to lol! Much love!

Kyo used improper vocal techniques for years and actually had surgery on his throat I believe from the wear and tear. He had a rough patch of struggling for a bit but he self taught in proper technique and today his vocals are otherworldly. So versatile and he hits notes in any range that gives chills from the sheer power he employs in his voice. The rest of the band are just as versatile and talented. But Kyo is a beast of pure will. There's been performances he's done while sick and you can see how hard he pushes himself for the music and art they believe in so strongly.

I love this reaction! Thank you so much for doing both version to have this comparison, that was really cool. I normally write super long comments but they tend to vanish at the moment and I don't feel up to it anymore - so I'm happy with how many people already commented! I send an answer regarding Kyo's vocals though - it hope that one will survive KZbin's strange crusade against my comments ^^'. To your questions: Dir en grey started out as a Visual Kei band which is not exactly a genre but means a collaboration between music and visual aspects like elaborate clothes and make-up. As you can see they took a bit of a break from that aspect while they were trying to 'make it' overseas - Vinushka was released during this time. During the live show, however, they are embracing their personal styles again. A lot of Visual Kei bands blend genres and incorporate many styles into the same song [there are trends as well but basically everything goes]. The length of the video was perfect for this double reaction in my opinion because you didn't extend it to repeat endlessly what you had already said but used the time to reflect on your experience which was nice to hear. You've already received a lot of recommendations for Dir en grey and I am looking forward to whatever you pick next! Since you write that you like core [but it seems Jeremy doesn't listen to too heavy music so I am not sure about this...] I would also like to recommend a younger VK band called deviloof [the vocalist is definitely Kyo inspired but much more technical in his approach and he is mad as a hatter :D]. If you would like some clean vocals mixed in I would recommend the song Escape, for a bit of a fun reaction do Libido [this band creates the most insane breakdowns and I love this song] or if you prefer recency take their song Damn which was just released a few weeks ago. Thank you so much for taking the time and open mind to do this one and have a fantastic Sunday!

@@moshpitreactions Well...they have been around for 25 years and they are the kind of band people can get slightly obsessed with ^^' It's a good thing to be obsessed about though...I have learned so much from digging into their lyrics and they have helped me a lot through sad times while also elevating the good times. They are quite different from other bands in so many aspects and they force their listeners to be critical which is always a good thing. At least for me personally it's the band that does it best. My favorite band in the world however is sukekiyo [but they have only released 3 albums so far and it's so difficult to choose a song from them because they all sound so different...] Mika - their drummer was my inspiration to pick up the drums but I also adore Shinya [Dir en grey's drummer] and I loved Jeremy's comments regarding the drums!

Very enjoyable reaction! This song has been reacted to so often by now the number of comments attest to how much people liked _your_ specific reaction to it! This was very well done and I will follow your channel further. The only thing I didn't like so much was the low volume. I had to listen at 100% of my laptop's abilities to hear the song in a moderate volume (but your voices were only slightly too loud with that so it didn't bother me too much. I just saw that your channel is still very young and that might be a thing to look into for future reactions 😉) Dir en grey don't have any straight up metalcore/deathcore songs but some songs carry influences of those genres and I read on your profile that you like to listen to rock as well. Kyo's second band sukekiyo is more on the experimental side of rock, often mixed with some electronics, jazz and pop influences. Maybe you could do a double reaction to sukekiyo's and Petit Brabancon's latest video releases "Mosaic Shouzyo" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXXKopmjgLKioMU) and "Don't forget" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/omK4Ymqth9Z9nsU). The astonishing thing about them is that they were filmed only a few months apart and I think it's just a great idea for a reaction to see you guys watch Kyo's different sides 🙂 But of course each musician in these bands is incredible and it's not just Kyo to look out for! (chronologically "Don't forget" was released earlier and I would start with that one - yes, I am already dreaming of this actually happening! Don't disappoint me 😂

Thank you so much for your feedback it means a lot to us! We are definitely looking into it, it was a mic issue for our voices being too quiet in our reactions before this one. But I did a lot of testing and was able to fix the issue. Now it's just to figure the sound balancing out between the mic and the songs! Thank you! Lol we can definitely talk about doing a double reaction to both of his bands other than just Dir En Grey! I am honestly intrigued to hear what the other bands have in store for us :) Of course since I am a vocalist and Jeremy is a drummer we focus on those a bit more than the other parts of the band but we try to focus on all things as much as we can that's for sure! avant-garde/ experimental metal they put a LOT TONS of things in their music, death metal, melodic metal, progressive, deathcore, nu metal, even some metal punk passageways in some songs, symphonic influences in others. all mixed together , all the variations ; its impossible to pigeonhole what they do, so when play heavy metal like these bois do , its given the term of Avant-Garde /experimental metal and if you ask to the DIR EN GREY's members what genre they play, they'll probably tell you they play metal with a lot of stuff on it and thats it

Awesome pick and reaction men. Vinushka is such a great recommendation for first time listeners/viewers IMO. Because it manages to showcase DEG soundscape/vibe/spirit nicely (or at least the later era anyway). Apart from Vinushka, my personal playlist for people that want to get into DEG are: Karasu from the Unraveling Rinkaku from Arche Kukoku no Kyouon from Arche Ningen wo Kaburu from the Insulated World They are 'easy' or 'gentle' enough for first timers to enjoy and quickly get into, I guess. And also adequately capture several major sides/characters of DEG that arises and recurs over and over again in their later discography (which is more metal + prog and less Visual Kei/J-rockish elements in general). As rule of thumb, if you guys at least like 3 of the 5 recommended tracks, then I'm sure that you'll love more of DEG awesomeness. If not, then it's ok to skip and find other bands that are more up to your taste. But anyway, cheers to you all, and have a nice day.

Kyo, the singer has been the lyricist of the band since they started in 1997. He was in his early 20s at the time. He tends to write lyrics with a lot of metaphoric use. He also likes to use a lot of his own hurts, world problems, injustices that happen, and like he once said taboo themes to make others react in his lyrics. When the band may have some selections extremely sick to the core that for me are not my favorite, there are some in between for the sound, tune etc. But, I would admit, there are the ones that made me fall in love with the band, specially the ballads. Some of the lyrics, are just purely touching even when there are aspects to understand; by the way Kyo, delivers the piece, it just makes it more special. In the original video of the song, on some parts, it was mostly dark, due to restructions. There is a non restricted video. I highly recommend you to watch the live video, but with the English lyrics on it; the song would make a lot more sense. 🗨 Songs I recommend; ⏩️The World of Mercy, live behind closed doors, no audience. ⏩️Macabre live, Tabula Rasa ⏩️Tousei live ⏩️Diabolos ⏩️Hydra666 CD version

Thank you for all of that! I absolutely love when someone in the band writes the songs, especially the frontman, because it just makes more emotion come from it and when a frontman can capture the true and full emotion that is supposed to be in the sound of the song. It just makes it so much more amazing of a song! I can see the rawness of how people go between the liking of the band to the not liking of some parts that they may have. Every band is like that to be honest. Thank you for your suggestions! And yes, we will be making sure we have english subs with the videos we do lol! Much love!

I thought it was great and different from other reactions. It's not be necessary for every song but there are some were it's really worth checking out the studio version in addition to the live either because the two versions are very different, because due to crowd interaction some vocals are missing, there are changes in the instrumentation and lyrics (this often happens with older songs in more recent live shows) or simply because it's astonishing to hear (and see) how some parts are played live because the studio version depends on layering and so on - Like you thought there was a female voice in the background of the studio version which was a second vocal layer by Kyo. He often switches them up during lives, sometimes he sings the higher verse, sometimes the deeper one. So yes, I definitely appreciated this! 😊

Thanks dudes for the reaction ! I love this song so much ^^ i think we could say it's a prog death--operatic song XD But they use lots of style, each album have his own genre (they start with visual key but can make hardcore songs too). And for the unhealthy voice style (lol) i believe Kyo (the singer) breaks his voice once and has to work on it a lot to regain his power (which is perfect right now). If you want to hear more from them you can try : - The World of Mercy (kind of creepy joker prog metal) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpubfaZmZr-gpZo (live version of course) - Hageshisa (more american style catchy with a lot of disgusting lows ^^ and a great live performance) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpOWiKqEfq6tra8 Thanks again for the reaction, your rock =)

@@moshpitreactions Incorrect, he has injured his throat and vocal chords many a time doing these types of vocals. It's not the sound that is unhealthy to produce, it's that during this time Kyo whilst brutal, didn't have vocal training, he was quite literally going with the flow as it were

@@moshpitreactions Some people keep commenting things like this like they can't deal with Kyo caring for his vocals despite being self trained and favouring raw emotions to pure technique [it's always a mix]. You can look up the band's touring schedule on their OHP and many interviews and all you will find in regards to vocal 'damange' is Kyo's struggle with vocal nodule dysphonia which forced the band into a 9 month break in 2012. The problems started around 2011 after the band had toured non-stop for 5 years while releasing 3 albums in the middle. The amount of lives they played at the time was ridiculous and I can't even fathom how stressful touring overseas must have been for the guys. Between 2011 and February 2012 they kept going to meet touring schedules in Europe and America with a lengthy domestic tour in between, while Kyo's voice steadily worsened [he only ever sounded fine during the first few lives of each tour, after that it was evident to everyone that he was having problems bigger than usual exhaustion]. This is something that would happen to literally everyone no matter how well trained your voice is. If you play 70+ concerts a year [they played 98 shows in 2009] on 4 continents with this intensity. According to a later interview Kyo did not need to have surgery [a rumour that was all but accepted at the time, especially in the west] but was treated with medication. He obviously worked on his vocal technique at the time which has changed a lot. If you watch footage from before and after 2012 you will hear that he started a completely different approach to singing [which he partially abandoned again for The Insulated World - all of their albums seem to open a different 'world' that is being perfected with each live. They are constantly in change, with their new as well as with their older songs]. So, to answer your question: what the band did at the moment was taking a break and give Kyo time to heal - what they did afterwards to prevent similar situations was simply to take a step back, reduce touring lengths [which especially changed their approach to American tours - at the time they were mostly touring with other big names in America. They were part of the Family Values Tour with Korn in 2006, toured with Apocalyptica in 2010 and had to cancel a tour with Asking Alexandria and Trivium for Kyo to recover in 2012. They also quit playing festivals which never really suited their style of music] and planning for at least 1-2 days between lives whenever possible. Apart from this Kyo has been hospitalized after shows a couple of times and broke down on stage twice while running a fever [all accounts of the flu, tonsillitis etc. Normal stuff you get once in a while and that maybe becomes more noticeable with a band that exists for 25 years by now. Tell me one person who doesn't get infected by something once in a while...it's just financially much more difficult for a singer to take a day off then it is for other people ^^' - and Kyo usually uses the fragility of the human body to his advantage as the human condition is one of the biggest aspects of his lyrics. Pain and suffering, anger and despair they don't sound pretty so Kyo doesn't aim for a conventionally 'pretty' singing style either way. There are songs where he deliberately sings slightly off-tune in certain lines and so on. They want to make you feel something and question things not just consume their music like people tend to consume everything today - half-heartedly and with one ear directed towards the next thing already] It's not [just] talent though, Kyo doesn't drink alcohol because it messes with his voice, he quit smoking for the same reason [he started again but it seems more of an Accessoire when he does it in videos or during live shows so I am not sure if he actually even smokes on a daily bases again] and he's a total workaholic thatis still passionate about what he does. You can also watch him constantly treating his throat before and in between live shows during the AGE QUOD AGES tour documentary while they were touring America and Japan in 2011 and newer footage shows him doing warm up exercises before going on stage and so on. So he definitely knows what he is doing and he is taking good care of himself.

Kyo has amazing style and talent within his role! There are a lot of frontmen out their that have hurt themselves but no matter what everyone still loves them no matter what they do after the healing! Look at Bring Me The Horizon and Trivium for example. They both have hurt themselves in their vocals but they are still such loved bands and vocalists! The fact that Kyo throws in the raw emotion to captivate the listeners and viewers more into the song is just to show how much raw talent he has! I am interested to see how he treats and trains his voice before and after show for sure because his style of vocals is not something I have heard before and he must have some great ways to warm up! I did not know they have toured with that many well known bands from America! That is so awesome! But I can totally see why they wouldn't want to do festivals for sure lol Much love!

Why so obsessed with genre and comparing them to others? I've noticed that's a very common thing for Americans to do, according to the multitude of reactions I've seen to this song. In my opinion, one of the best parts about these guys is that they do what they want, what fits the song and what they feel like - not what's expected of them. Genuine talent, artistry and no f**ks given.

It's not just America. I don't get why people even want to have genres but they seem extremely important to a lot of people. It's like the 'framework' within which a band can move and it's fun to see how different bands try to expand/stretch that framework and do different things within it but as soon as they step a food outside of it people go berserk or can't cope with the confusion ^^' I grew up with Japanese rock and metal so for me it was a struggle to get into genres and I keep thinking how much more interesting a lot of music was if bands wouldn't restrict their own creativity that way...but I guess it's part of the human condition, or at least a thing very searched after in most countries that provides people with a sense of order. However, this manic wish to catalogue everything and stick a lable to it only restricts things further and further and in my opinion might lead to a complete stagnation some day. Just look at how many subgenres we have in black metal right now for example and the same thing goes on at universities and jobs where you are trained in such small and specific areas that you basically don't learn anything anymore [or rather, you do learn to do that one thing but it's often completely unpractical if you cannot connect it to other fields and so on]. Humans are a strange bunch ^^' But luckily a lot of artists and scholars pick up on that as well and want to free themselves from those shackles. It hasn't arrived so much in the mainstream yet but I am hopeful that it will because like I said, stagnation would be the alternative and I don't think that's something anyone really wants in the end.

I definitely can see where you are coming from. I am not one that likes to compare often but no I love how these guys do what they want and don't care what other people have to say about it. It's their lives and their career, we honestly need more bands like that! I think the music industry would be a lot better off with not limiting bands to just stick to certain things.

I think the reason put bands into genres are to pick out singular bands that they like and try to explain what kind of music they are. In ways at least. I want more bands to come out of their labeled shackles and just do everything they want to do without any negatives coming from the label they are signed to!

@@moshpitreactions Avant Garde is a bit of a fun term in metal (the term derives from aFrench military term which describes the advanced guarde - the first troop that comes into "enemy" contact. From the 20th century onwards artists mainly in theatre and film used the term to describe radical changes in the meaning and perception of art with the goal to break down any boundaries. So when we talk about Avant Garde today we usually mean that a band is doing something radical that no other band has done before them - which doesn't really happen that much anymore. It is _also_ used in politics where it stands in contact with Marxism and therefore the term holds a double meaning especially in Russian 'avant garde' art.) I think the term actually fits Dir en grey quite well though even though the mix of genres has already been typical for Visual Kei bands at the time. It's more their attitude towards music and their performances that might legitimise the use of the term 'avant garde'. If you are interested in some more bands described by the term I would recommend the Japanese Black Metal band Sigh and Diablo Swing Orchestra from Sweden. (On a different not: _The Phantom of the Opera_ is a musical and there are no opera voices in it whatsoever 😅 If you want to check out a fantastic band with Opera vocals you could look into Fleshgod Apocalypse!)

Loved watching this. Its always great to see new people discover dir en grey and see the first time they hear them. They are not an easy band to approach. Like you said, the highs and the transitions are a hard pill to swallow sometimes. Its uncomfortable, its difficult to process and it doesn't become easy listening until you've heard it over and over again for a while. I really hope y'all check out some more of their stuff. Tabula Rasa's Macabre performance is another long live that very progy. Midwife and Magayasou are great live. The uncensored Obscure music video is great. Different Sense is very djenty. Rinkaku is full of those highs and falsettos, but much "healthier" than this. There is so much material. This live version was way better than the music video, but the album quality of the original song is pretty good. I have the album and the following album on vinyl and love putting them on when I have chores to do like putting away laundry lol.

Welcome to the world of Dir En Grey, a band that as no explanation. They don't have a genre. They do whatever they feel like doing. As for where else to go? Well that's the issue as this band has a dramatic genre change over their 25 year and 11 album discography. However one song that NO ONE else suggests is mazohyst of decadence. It's a song off their first album titled Gauze that was released in 99. The album came out 2 years after the band formed. The Music Video is a bit suspect so I suggest the audio only version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4HXZGCaabOpptE The Live Version is another level of eeriest track I know of: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGrSiYiVlpmIbtE It's a bit of a weird track. It takes elements from a lot of genres and was the standout track on their first album which was full of punk and almost pop rock tracks. Safe to say enjoy the insanity of this track.

Not gonna lie, I take entirely too much joy in the fact that one of Kyo's other bands is basically very dance/electric/experimental pop. Very pop, lol. Kyo is nothing if not versatile 6 and he absolutely has screwed up his voice more than once because of misusing it. The best interpretation I've heard of the lyrics is that it's less directly about ww2 and more about guilt, about what kind of people they must be that others would think they deserve the suffering that came with nuking them twice. Kyo's lyrics, though, are always vague and he's frequently refused to explain them

I mean hey the best skill is the multitasking! It reminds me kind of like Asking Alexandria's vocalist Danny Worsnop! Danny does Asking and also his own solo/band country music which are so far different it's insane! I respect anyone that can do multiple genres to the fullest! Honestly, I was kind of thinking that as well, it might not be a song for WW2 but it has a big connection and when they would show the bombs being dropped and everything it puts you more into perspective about the side that took the losses from the bombings. One thing I liked in the live version is when they show on the big screen behind the band the bombs dropping, the crowd starts making noises that to me honestly sounds like they are screaming at the dropping bombs. Which interpreted by me feels like they are showing the meaning behind the song that everyone fears the dropping of the bombs.
@river4088
@river4088 Жыл бұрын
@@moshpitreactions oh definitely. Whether or not the lyrics stay poetic, the imagery they use for both is very deliberate. In the music video, the drawings shown towards the end were done by Japanese children showing what they saw when the bombs dropped. In the live version they really nail home the feeling of dread building up to the moment of the bombs dropping, to the abject surrender afterwards, and the suffering the bombs caused. dir is a band of many genres, from very thrashy to experimental, heavy as fuck, to pretty experimental. If you liked that more progressive feel, try their song dream box, Macabre,, or Diabolos - if you want a more hard rock feel, try their song The Final, I'd you want some solid heavy shit, try Obscure, Dozing Green. Glass Skin is a Gorgeous ballad - of which they have a couple. They're not afraid to mix genres (Uroko brings out those operatic vocals, some heavy screams, and blast beats, but Perfume of Sins is closest to deathcore, probably) Personally, while I am typically a massive old school avenged sevenfold fan - Dir en Grey scratches an itch that no other band does. They're still going strong since '97, and left a really massive label early in their career (they were playing stadiums in Japan) because they wanted to do their own thing. They're brilliant, and very much go their own way and damn the genres and the boxes anyone puts them in.
