As you said John there's too many questions about this watch for me to feel confident enough to pull the trigger on a purchase. Tempting as some of thier watches are. I also notice that on their home page they are still talking about the Chinese New Year delays. As we all know that was a few months ago. So this lack of attention by not updating that home page raises another question mark to me. Congrats on the 10K subs. Well deserved. 👍

Another solid and honest review of one of these with a disclaimer right at the start. True comment about the packaging. I once purchased a Merkur based off a “review” only to find out later that the reviewer received their premium case in exchange for a favourable review and the pleb version for everyone else was totally different. Cheers for keeping it real John.

Congrats on the 10k! I personally think amongst the Chinese Brands, Merkur puts out the best original designs. With that said, I don’t buy very many watches, so unfortunately, the non sapphire and the nebulous movement (and supposed poor customer support) are deal breakers for me. Looking forward to the Nodus review!

I'm fond of Merkur because they (if they're the same brand) were the first quality Seiko homages, predating San Martin, who I thought were the same company at launch but who knows. I have their Tuna and 6105 and a pilot from that era and they are great quality and spec, a definite cut above Sharkey and Steeldive and Addies and all the others we have today. So I later bought also a handwinding Merkur 'first watch reissue' and was sad to find it run only intermittently. There was no warranty I could see, and when I asked Merkur if I could buy a replacement movement they said no. But I found a skeletonised tongzhi on ebay that matched the 'in house' Merkur movement and that works fine. Bit of a disappointing experience there but a lovely design, every Chinese purchase is a gamble this was the only one I've had problems with.

Thanks for your experience and thoughts....though I wouldn't agree that every Chinese watch is a gamble? After around 200 purchased I can honestly say my overall experience has been much better than buying via eBay and Amazon...😊

It's a good looking watch, and for the price decent value. But there is a question mark over the movement, not personal experience but I have seen them perform poorly on timegraphs (on reveiws on utube) which is a shame because they do do some great designs. Oh and well done on hitting the 10,000 mark, a bit of good news after youre April trials.

Cheers Robert. It's a difficult one. This watch in particular is running well. Between plus 2 and plus 6 seconds per day. It does vary between that but no other issues. It's a shame they have this cloud hanging over them 😞

I really like this design even though the hands are a bit short. However, that movement failed in my Seizenn after only occasional use over 3 months. I wish they would install the vh31 in these cases. Congratulations on 10,000 😎

My most recent Ali purchase was the Murkur jumping hour. Very similar to this one with the salmon dial. Looks like the same case and crystal too. If the aperture on the minute hand didnt hide the hour window, it would be near perfect at that price point. Oh and the hands look near black in most light, looked bluer in the pics and worked better with the salmon dial.

I have ordered about 10 watches from mercure (or pierre paulin, which seems to be the same company). All of them arrived, all of them looked exactly as described, also this one in salmon. At this price, they are fine. I like them because of their (mostly) original design. At least, they are no rip-off copies like some pagani-designs. So no complaints here.

It's a lovely looking thing. A bit thick, but A red 12 and a vintage font tug at my inner fool. However your QC comments hark back to the early days of Chinese watch imports. Memories of Parnis are bitter. That's a shame. Plenty of £100 watches out there that can be bought with a degree of certainty, but possibly not in salmon. A pity.
