Guys, I am not against Bethel music. But this particular song is not theologically accurate and I hope you’ll gain better skills at discerning these types of songs so you don’t sing them nor introduce them to your congregation if you are a worship leader.

As stated elsewhere in the comments, this is exactly why worship leaders need to start writing and recording more of their own originals. If you control the content, you control how theologically sound the song is.

@@rjlbabbc Actually, that also comes to my mind when I've read those lyrics. But yeah, I kinda agree with brother Allen here. It's very subtle way of credit-, or more specifically, glory-grabbing. When worship songs shift from Glory to God to glory to me, I think it's about time we reconsider the songs. For me personally, I can easily change those "I" into "You" so as to redeem the lyrics of this song. But maybe that's just me.

It’s funny because I am kind of cautious of Bethel church and Bethel music, but It does say,”I have the authority Jesus has given me” right after saying they can speak miracles. It sounds Jesus centered and not man centered to me.🤷‍♂️ of course I think people should steer clear and remain cautious of Bethel. They have a lot weirder things to criticize in my opinion. I enjoy listening to your thoughts and appreciate your videos.👍

I've never heard the song but I took the walls come crashing down line as when the Children of Israel shouted and the walls of Jericho came crashing down. When I'm obedient to God, and do what he commands me to do, demons are cast out and the sick are healed and souls are saved. Not because of anything in my power. It's 100% God working through me.

Respect but I'm not sure about this one. As a fellow Christian (and fellow KZbinr), I really hope that everything I post below is viewed through the lens of mutual respect. I love your channel and learn a lot from you. If the lyrics had said instead, "I lift up my voice and shout and *_every mountain will be cast into the sea_* . . ." (from Matt 11:23) then I doubt we'd even be talking about these lyrics. The original Bible verse says " *_Whoever says_* to this mountain . . ." We're clearly supposed to say things with our mouths because that's the part that talks. And, mountains, walls? What's the difference? Also, Jesus did say directly, “He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these *_he will do_* ." (John 14:12). Of course, the walls in the lyrics bring the walls of Jericho to mind, "the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat." (Joshua 6:20). God told them to shout and He clearly is always prompting us to pray in our own lives. There are other verses that echo these sentiments. This raises the question, is this an issue of theology or something as basic as faith, then? If our personal theology/doctrine/beliefs don't encourage us to pray for miracles, then we need to make more room for what Jesus told us. Also, the lyrics do clearly identify the source of the power/authority as Jesus (on the very same slide.). The slide @4:54 does not say, our voices can create miracles. It says, " *_When_* I lift my voice . . ." Those are two different statements. Jesus said, "When you pray . . ." more than once. All that said, if the question at the end of the video had asked, "Is this music *_Biblically_* accurate?" I'd say the answer is yes! If there are Bible verses that say we shouldn't pray, lift up our voice, or even shout for miracles, or that the Holy Spirit is retired from the business of miracles, then let's talk about those verses. ;-) I'll give you a real personal example that is an illustration of those lyrics (but, more importantly, the Bible verses that support them). Years ago, I injured my knee in sports. It didn't improve one bit for 2 months and there was constant pain. I was considering surgery. But I hadn't seriously prayed about it yet. I finally had the faith--prompted by God--to pray for healing (and I said those prayers out of my mouth) and received prayer at church from some people who laid hands on my knee. Within 48 hours, my knee was 100% healed. No more crutches. No more brace. God healed me *_when_* I lifted my voice. I didn't get healing until I prayed. In terms of common ground, I agree we should carefully examine the lyrics we sing. I agree that we are not little gods. We are not the source of miracles and we cannot create anything miraculously. We cannot "name it and claim it." But I don't see that slide of lyrics saying any of those things. I'm not even sure the lyrics implied those things. Again, you have my utmost respect. This is just a respectful disagreement. God bless.

What I'm trying to say is that we don't do these things by ourselves, but God does them, but we call for these things to happen by Faith. I can do all things through Christ As Paul had boasted of things that were very great, in order that this might not be attributed to pride or furnish others with occasion of foolish boasting, he adds, that it is by Christ that he is gifted with this strength. “I can do all things, ” says Paul, “but it is in Christ, not by my own power, for it is Christ that supplies me with strength.” Hence we infer, that Christ will not be less strong and invincible in us also, if, conscious of our own weakness, we place reliance upon his power alone. When he says all things, he means merely those things which belong to his calling.

“When I lift my voice and shout, every wall comes crashing down” Read the story of Jericho when Joshua and the Israelites were going around the walls of Jericho seven times and in the seventh time, the walls came crashing down…..I believe that’s what this refers to….in our life God has given has authority to break walls in our life that enemy has put to prevent us to moving to certain destination…..they follow up the lyrics with (I have authority that Jesus has given me) this is good because they are not claiming to break the walls just with their shout, but the authority that’s Christ has given them…and I truly believe so….

While I don't ascribe to the law of attraction that many in the church do these days, I do generally agree with what you wrote here. I also thought of the imagery of Jericho and how this particular lyric was likely a symbol of things holding us back in our personal lives, not speaking of literal walls. It's also true that in many cases the things we beg for or think we know best are answered with "No" or "I know better" or "Not the right timing" from God, so we can't expect everything we declare to just happen right then and there. Even though we are His children, we can still be in error and ask for things not in accordance with His will. Plus, He disciplines those He loves and even allows horrible things to come into the lives of His children while we remain on earth. So we can't just wish away every difficulty. Sometimes those things are from His hand in order to grow us in ways we cannot fully understand.

John Wesley was full of false theology... perverted the Scripture, redefined words to teach that men are not chosen by God from all eternity based on God's perfections and decretive will, but based on the puny creature's choice. Wesley belongs on a long list of heretics, not a long list of sound biblical theologians or bible teachers or evangelists. He followed Pelagius and Jacob Herman's (Arminius) false theology and built error upon error. George Whitfield wrongly commended him, giving rise to many sound teachers naming Wesley among the great teachers... solidifying the sea of false doctrine we are swimming in today.

Yes,the movement he started that became the Methodists were onto a good idea there. In the 18th century the tired old pretty corrupt Church of England did have a point in their sceptism of Wesley's movement. It very much ran and grew on enthusiasm which sounds great to our modern ears. We who grew up in the post 1945 world have lived in a culture all our lives that promotes enthusiasm as a driving force. Not bad in itself. But of course a "faith" based on your emotions and feelings can thrive when all is well but vanish when hard times strike. Certainly be much harder to sustain, abd (in some lines of thought) if those hard times have struck God doesn't love you and your faith wasn't true. Not my idea but one aspect of thought. Bad things happen to bad people theory. But to return to Wesley et al,they shone a light of hope and love into people's lives that were so grim, they showed a "way out". I live in the area where Wesley preached A LOT . This was a coal mining area back then, the miners lives were poor and grim and they were notorious for burning down toll gates and rioting. The people of the nearby city of Bristol hated and feared the miners of Kingswood. They saw them as feral animals not humans. When Wesley preached it's recorded the miners + their families were so overwhelmed by the sense of God's Love that he conveyed to them that their tears made white channels down their coal dust blackened faces.

Yes that is what Luke 10:19 says but you didn't include the entire verse. How about the rest of the verse "and nothing shall by any means hurt you". Are you suggesting that this verse applies to you? Are you saying that you can handle snakes and scorpions "and nothing shall by any means hurt you". Lets keep in mind that this is an OT scripture and being taught to Gods chosen people Israel only. How do we know this, there are several scriptures that tell us that: Matthew 15:24 "But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel". So if the 12 were to Israel who do we have? We find in the book of Romans the Apostle Paul saying, Romans 11:13 "For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office": If that isn't enough then we have Galatians 2:9 "And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision". Simply put, the Apostle Paul was to go onto the "heathen" gentiles that would have been us then and now and the 12 "unto the circumcision" Israel. Lets keep in mind that the OT of MML&J (Hebrews 9:16) and the 12 were teaching a future kingdom on earth, the NT Apostle Paul is teaching a future heavenly kingdom and these two are not the same and can become quite confusing if one tries to blend it all together as if it applies to us today. I have to agree with the video but also mention that there are other Bethel songs that are just as bad.

You are 99% correct in your argument based on your premise. The issue is that the theological deviation is not limited to this single song (this accounts for the remaining 1% of your critical analysis). Bethel publishes songs like this because it reflects the theology they believe in. They are simply being consistent with their philosophy and “editorial” approach. Be honest, don’t be afraid of criticism. Acknowledge that the problem is not with this song itself, but with the various theological deviations of that institution, which naturally end up being reflected in their songs-what they live and believe.

When I lift my voice & shout is 1. Referencing the walls of jericho when they shouted & it came down (reminding us of the power & authority we have in Christ) 2. A metaphor saying when we lift up our voices and shout out praises to God, whatever obstacle (wall) or hardship (wall), etc. we’re facing will come down in Jesus’ name. The same thing for “when I open my mouth” that is a metaphor to praying or again, shouting praises to God & worshipping Him-the effect of THAT would be divine intervention, God intervening which is a miracle. That’s all they’re saying. Respectfully, you have to be more patient & wait until you KNOW you’ve received confirmation from the Spirit because you be reaching a lot-this isn’t the first time. I worry you get caught up in trying to release content & also help people which turns into you not taking the time to make sure the Spirit is speaking or taking the time to hear Him all the way/correctly.

When did get it decided that it was now a worship service with loud drums ect. Reminds me of a rock concert. I know that many people today are moved by the spirt with this upbeat music and enjoy this feel-good rhythms. The author of the youtube is right about being careful about music lines that do NOT line up with Biblical Theology. You open your self up bad truths thare not Biblically corecct.

Music bypasses the prefrontal cortex. This is why it is able to grip the heart so quickly. It takes discipline to analyze lyrics in all music. Even children absorb the spirit of music. It’s very serious to have quiet moments to ponder and reflect. Otherwise we progress through our days without giving any critical thought to things and therefore no wisdom to go against the wiles of the devil.

Faith plays a massive role here because every single time Jesus did the healing he said,'Your Faith has made you well', 'Your faith is beautiful' , etc. So it's very important to receive it with Faith. When I lift my voice and shout Every wall comes crashing down Metaphor referring to the wall of Jericho Also a reference to when we praise God (lift my voice) and proclaim His name (shout) the walls in our minds of negativity, doubt, hurt, ect can be broken down. If WE confess OUR sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9 WE must lift our voices. WE must confess Then God will do His part When I lift my voice and shout (my part) Every wall comes crashing down (His part) When I open up my mouth Miracles start breaking out When we preach the word of God, then God uses us as His messengers. The people of Nineveh repented because Jonah preached the word of God. Jonah 3. 6 When JONAH'S warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. Doesn't say God's warning (but we know it came from God from previous verses. Luke we know these words in the song are about God because they established that in previous phrases). Doesn't say "God spoke through Jonah". It says JONAH'S WORDS Jonah did his part....proclaimed with his mouth the dire warning God told him. The people repented. Then God relented. God chooses to use you and me as His messengers. He used Peter, Paul, Andrew, ect He uses people like you and me today. When I open up my mouth (our part) Miracles start breaking out (God's part) Throughout the song God is being proclaimed as champion, undefeated, conquerer. If we interpret Scripture the way you are interpreting this song then we must get out our sharpie and start redacting verse after verse when Paul said, or Peter said, rather than "God, seized Paul by the Spirit, and spoke through Him". Men and women of the Bible did their part, and then God did His. The phrases of the song are typical Assembly of God type theology. Agree or disagree with the AG .... Your theology is YOUR interpretation of Scripture (rife with the failability of sinful man), it is not THE Unmitigated Truth. Unless you have acquired the ability to walk on water your understanding of Scripture is just as flawed as the rest of us.....like looking through flawed, cracked, wavy glass. BTW, the prevailing theology of Jesus' time demanded he was a heretic. The words of this song point me to God and remind me I am called to be His voice on Earth. When I am obedient then He will work through me. When I am not and you are not then He will go find some rocks to cry out. I hope and pray you will stop with these videos arguing over symantics and a demand that everyone say things your way. We don't all think alike. God didn't make us to be cookie cutters. Rather spend your time lifting up the saints and sharing the gospel forthright instead of this backhanded approach against those who don't say things your way. As Max Lucado said, "When fishermen don't fish, they fight." Let's stop fighting and start fishing. God bless you and keep you.

Although you could interpret it this way. The natural understanding is more word-faith. "When I open my mouth, miracles start breaking out, I have the authority, Jesus has given me." The reality is people think of beneficial superficial miracles, not the conversion of the lost. (something we don't have authority over anyway) "BTW, the prevailing theology of Jesus' time demanded he was a heretic." True, but it was unbiblical theology. Like obviously so. Are you suggesting that we should not call out heresy? Because some was knocking about in Jesus' day? (He called out the heresy then, should we not do the same now?) If we take on this particular theology as true, it leads to us becoming self obsessed. We think that we are failures when the things we utter don't come true. What if we don't see the miracles coming? And when they do come- we become prideful. Simple theological differences can lead to great sin, the more it embeds itself in our thinking. And ultimately on the line here is the authority and glory of God. He speaks through us. We are not apostles, we, like you say do get things wrong. There is power in the gospel, power in the spoken word, but it is not our authority given by Jesus, but his authoritative words. How terrible, for me to steal glory that is Gods. We sinfully do it in our lives, lets not sing it when we're worshipping him.

Couldn’t disagree more. When they mentioned “when I open up my mouth” they are obviously referring to the authority of Jesus Christ living within us that we carry. When we allow ourselves to align with the Will of God we have the authority to declare mountains to move and miracles to happen “as it is in Heaven”. Jesus taught us to pray with confidence and authority by declaring “as it is in Heaven”. Also, you mention the worship was ruined for you. Worship isn’t for you, it’s for God. Just my two cents

God bless you brother, this analysis is just so sadly wrong. There isn't a thing wrong with this song. 1 John 4:17 KJV Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. Peter in Acts 3:6 said "Such as I have give I thee..." Jesus said in Matthew 17:20 "YOU will say to this mountain..." Matthew 16:19; 18:18 "whatever you bind on earth..." If we have the Spirit of Christ in us as agreed on in Colossians 1:27 is it a hard thing to believe that when we open our mouths miracles break out? If the book of Job 22:28 bares witness that "you will declare a thing as it will be established..." even to them who the scripture says that they should be made complete without us (Heb. 11:40), why should it be a problem that we in whom resides the Spirit of creation, can not create in the same way according to His will and promptings? After all it is all by Faith (ref. Hebrews 11:1-3). Sad really 😞

Love broke through, by Toby Mac. I left a DV situation and fear based religious abuse was heavy towards the end. The song love *broke through was used as fear based *ammunition to get me to *come back* to him, through my children no less. I agree with the concept that Satan can *infiltrate worship/gospel music. Honestly, thank you for making this video. I am thankful to know I am not alone in thinking this. Toby Mac is (I nearly wrote *“hands down,” because of the thought of needing to *defend myself.) one of my absolute favorite artists; so this song *hit me quite differently. *Note all of the violent thoughts, and feelings invoked by this song* I also believe that if Satan is heavily attacking someone, in this case worship artists, they are the biggest threat to his purpose, to keep us from God. Therefore, of course Satan would use worship music as a form of attack. This video is so thought provoking! Thank you

I don’t see what’s wrong with the song. When the lyrics say “when i lift my voice and shout, every wall comes crashing down” for me that’s a very powerful phrase that changes me. When we don’t know what else to do or say bcs we’re so overwhelmed with whatever’s going on in life, we lift our praise not to change the circumstances, but to change us - to change our heart’s attitude towards the problem. For me personally when I am overwhelmed, i will push people away and isolate myself from them, even from God, so there’s this “wall” that i put up - it could be pride, shame, guilt, etc. and when i choose to praise him regardless of my circumstance, i remind myself of who He is and what He has done in my life; that’s when the “wall” comes crashing down. And when it comes to “when i open up my mouth, miracles start breaking out”, for me, again, it refers to what i’ve mentioned above - a change of heart counts as miracles too! I don’t see why it is weird bcs this song helps me to go through seasons in life, perhaps we have different interpretations :)

They lifted their voices and a miracle occurred (the prison walls crashing down). Surely this wasn’t by their human abilities, but by the authority granted to them through Jesus. In the same way, like the song says, when we lift our voices and shout, we have access to supernatural power through Jesus.

The line: when I open my mouth miracles start breaking out: makes me think, when I open my mouth And PRAY, Miracles happen. It's NOT MY authority that makes the Miracles start breaking out, its GOD'S authority. I think you're taking it the wrong way. When we Pray and have faith and believe and pray for God's will, God answers prayers and Miracles Do start happening.

@@oc1148 I hear what you're saying, and you are correct about believers being careful not to be judgemental people or self-elevating. I've been following Allen Parr for years and know that's definitely not who he is. Yet, on the subject of judging, I've heard many christians speak against judging yet in John 7:24 Jesus tells us to judge, just make sure we do so correctly, and even in clearer details 1 Corinthians 5:12 tells us that the people we aren't to judge are unbelievers but it is our RESPONSIBILITY to judge other believers. This, done correctly and in love, leads to correction and learning and growth.

@@courageahlaneltoluwase7315 you’ve got to put those lyrics in context tho. It’s “I have the authority…Jesus has given me” That is biblical. Matthew 3:14-15“Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach, giving them authority to cast out demons.” ‭‭Luke 10:9 “Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.” These lyrics are talking about the new strength and authority we have in Jesus. That different situations in our lives, problems, walls can’t hold us back. Why? Because Our God. Who is all powerful (omnipotent) is backing us up. He will not come down himself and do things that He has giving us the power to do. Hope this makes sense. God bless

It's more become about entertainment than praising God. I don't know if I am as emphatic about this particular song as the gentleman in the video, but I definitely agree with his sentiment. Declaring your own ability or good works in the middle of a song meant to be sung to God is NOT praise. There is no way he meant that somehow our miracles would be greater in power than Jesus had. Greater can also mean in extent. Jesus Resurrected HIMSELF from the dead. Jesus rose a man to life DAYS after he was dead. But the Apostles and believers have taken the gospel to trillions of people in every part of the globe for 2000 years as they did smaller in impact but greater in volume and did many things Jesus could not do while in his human form. Peter preached and 5000 believed. Jesus BECAUSE he is with the Father and is seated on the throne is no longer limited to what one person (himself) was capable of, but what millions as His body, are capable of. So greater things seems to fit better, hermeneutically speaking, with the extent and impact of their miracles. NOT that somehow your POWER is greater than He had?!

Praise, shouting, taking authority verbally, praying; etc is are ways that God encourages us (scripturally & for me directly from His mouth) to come into agreement with Him. The blessings & miracles move through us, but it's ALL from God. Period. In writing a song you can't break certain things down too descriptively or literally. They did wayyy back in the b.c. or a.d. days, but present day music isn't typically structured in that manner. But unfortunately, that can mean some ppl may miss the full message or intent behind it.

Commenting again with reference. This is what comes to mind when I hear that bridge - Acts 16:25-27: About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. We’ve been singing songs about the power of praise for centuries. “My praise is a weapon” is a popular refrain throughout the history of worship music. Popularity doesn’t make it right, but the longevity of that notion is probably due to its Biblical basis. Anyways don’t listen if you feel convicted - everyone comes from different backgrounds and accordingly will have different responses to this song. But I think this is a situation where we can disagree and neither person be wrong.

The lyrics should be taken in context. The statement "when I open up my mouth, miracles start breaking out" comes AFTER the statement "I have the authority Jesus has given me." So the miracles are breaking out because Jesus has given us the authority and we choose to actually obey His commands to heal the sick and cast out demons. That is very, very biblical. Jesus also said in John 14:12, "He who believes in Me, the works that I do he also will do; and greater works will he do, because I go to the Father." So how exactly is it unbiblical or man-centered to take Jesus at His word and obey His commands? These lyrics aren't unbiblical. They're actually biblical, as opposed to some viewpoint that says that believers who are empowered by the Holy Spirit are not capable of seeing miracles happen. The song never says they're happening through our own power - it's simply that we initiate them by partnering with God in opening up our mouths. I think you might benefit from singing this song more until you start to believe it, because miracles are a huge part of what Jesus called His disciples to do every time He sent them out. Disciples of Jesus shouldn't be any different today. That is one of the significant reasons why the Holy Spirit is poured out: so that we can be true witnesses for Jesus who are able to represent the love of the Father and the Kingdom of God by bringing healing and deliverance to the people we are witnessing to.

No clarification should have to prop up a song or sermon. This song, and many more such songs is eisegetic. It's a pity that pastors have allowed 'performing artists' to bring another gospel. This is no different from the Gnostics in the early church. God have mercy.

I used to love singing "Rough Side of the Mountain" because it was nostalgic and reminded me of my grandmother. However, as I grew spiritually, I felt uncomfortable with the lyrics "I'm doing my best to make it in". It sounded too much like salvation through my own works, instead of what Jesus did for me. Maybe I misinterpreted the song writer's intention, but I feel convicted not to sing those lyrics.

Hey Allen! I’m actually the guy that was singing this song at the conference you attended in Texas. Appreciate this video. And as I do agree with your thoughts on worship in general, I don’t think that what you’re saying is taking place is the actual meaning and heart behind the lyrics. We take lyrics seriously as well. And in this particular part of the song, it speaks of moments when the power of God was released through praise. It still remains about God. And Him being the one that goes before us and fights our battles when we lift up praise. Scripture in various places support that . Glad you enjoyed worship outside of that though! Was awesome seeing you in the crowd! If Y’all need us hit us up!

I love this song! I never heard of it before this video, but you showed me what great lyrics it has. I think one of the great problems with the modern American church is that we forget to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit every day. We forget the authority we've been given by Christ. We forget that Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." - Matthew 18:18. We walk around spewing nonsense as though our words don't have power when we could be speaking in the power of the Holy Spirit, commanding demons to flee and breaking spiritual walls and chains. We could be, like Jesus, saying only what the Lord tells us to say, and speaking miracles into existence. But we're too busy denying that the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us. So shout, children of God! Open your mouths in praise. Speak to dry bone and bring forth life in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

I’ve been a Christian since 1996 and have been involved in the Christian worship scene in different capacities. But at some point I started avoiding “worship music” because it was extremely shallow and, in most cases, theologically inept. That’s why I have come to appreciate Psalm singing. It doesn’t matter the genre of music, but the lyrics is strictly Psalms straight from Scripture. You can’t go wrong there.

Are not prayers in the heart, a melody to God? I believe the power of confession (as what you were describing, speak unto mountains thus and thus) is contingent on personal revelation. For instance, the sons of Sceva, Acts 29 verse 15, "And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, Paul I know, but who are ye?" When the devil finished, he possessed all of them. It is not enough to call on the name of the Lord and expect some mystical power to do as you commanded. That power must be revealed to you. That to me is the difference. Jesus and Paul both had the ability to cast out demons because it was a revelation from God to them personally. The sons of Sceva, even though they said the right things, called on Jesus' name, did not have that revelation. This is the theological caveat that the song does not address clearly, and therefore can lead others astray. Yes, it is true if revealed to you God's revelation, that your words, (God's revelation) when spoken, will come to pass. These are not your words but the words of Almighty God. The issue is when I open "my" mouth, it implies that these are "my" words, and is therefore obscuring of the meaning written within God's word. I'm curious what you think about all of this. Or if you believe I am mistaken. ❤️ TLDR: "My" words are not scriptural. "My" mouth is therefore inconsistent.

I sing this song at youth group a lot the time. when the line says "when i open up my mouth miracles start breaking out" we are talking about the power of the holy spirit and how he works through us and if you take just those lines then it would sound self centered but when you take the song as a whole then it's clear that its the power of the holy spirt that works through us. That is why the next thing it says is "i have the authority that Jesus has given me" because it's the power of the holy spirit that does the miracle and not us.

That’s the thing if the focus was really 100% on God then they would say “when I open up my mouth (Your or YOUR) miracles start breaking out” not “when I open up my mouth miracles start breaking out” The thing is when you write a song lyrics you go over it multiple times to make sure it’s what you want after all the lyrics of the song is how you are telling people how you feel. Failure to find and fix this single mistake no matter how small it is shows us how they really feel. After you make something you double check, you triple check, some people even check 10 times to make sure it is exactly what you want it to be. The fact that despite that they made this big mistake shows that what they express through the song is not 100% what they feel. if they did they would have made sure not to make such a mistake. This is the truth and there is no excuse that can help them with this.

@John Eldred "And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;" Mark 16:17. Jesus didn't say "these signs will accompany just the twelve", but "those who believe". As you said, with our mouth we can't create anything, but when we are filled with the Holy Spirit and we live a sanctified life, we do have the authority to change things around us! I believe that with the authority of Jesus we, the Christians, can live the supernatural. We can cast out the demons in Jesus name! We can heal the sick in Jesus name. Because the bible says so: "they will cast out demons". Jesus didn't say "I" will cast, but "they". So, us.

“If you have the Faith of a mustard seed, you can SAY to this mountain, be removed..”. That song is theologically accurate. When Jesus sent the disciples to cast out demons, they recognize that the demons were answering to them. Jesus said that he had given them authority to trample over the enemy… this is the meaning behind these lyrics if you read in context of the whole song. The seed of the Kingdom was sown in us and the Word is in our hearts and in our mouth. So it is true that we’ve been given Christs authority and victory. You may have a disagreement with the theology of the Word of Faith movement. That may be why you were triggered by the language. But those who are abiding in Christ, we have authority. There’s a thin line between being sons of God and being independent gods. This song is written out of a trusting relationship. It’s not absent of Christ being the Head. If the song spoke ONLY about our authority, then it could mislead. But the whole song glorifies Jesus as the head. So the ending is not inaccurate to scriptures. “If you abide in Me and you will bear much fruit” (see John 15). Bless you brother

If we don't open our mouths we can speak to the mountain, Moses didn't speak to the rock and as such didn't see the promised land or the promises of God. PS. that's how I see it.

I know I’m 15 but I have to disagree. Champion is one of my favorite songs and I had the opportunity to hear it when I was visiting Bethel church in 2019. The song came out on 2020 so that’s one year before it came out. I don’t believe that the bridge was intended to be man-centered. I believe that it was a declaration that we have the power in our mouths to speak life into people. They were trying to apply the Bible verse where it says that Jesus has given the same authority he has into our everyday lives. They were trying to say that walls like Jericho can come down like what the lord did with Joshua. Same with when Jesus rebuked the ocean, the same power was given to us. That is a biblical thing so I don’t see anything wrong about it. Again this is my opinion.

So sorry Allen, I'm lost! Jesus, Himself said: "Have faith of God; for verily I say to you, that whoever may say to this mount, Be taken up, and be cast into the sea, and may not doubt in his heart, but may believe that the things that he saith do come to pass, it shall be to him whatever he may say." (Mark 11:22-23 YLT). I agree that there is a lot of 'man-centered' gospel out there making so many people who think they're coming to Christ, unaware that they're actually buying into some philosophy. But that should not make us throw away the baby with the bathwater, putting question marks on what is truly legit. I can't help but ask myself what use the authority of Christ to Joshua was if the walls did not crumble when he shouted. He did not wait for Christ to shout for him, he shouted. At that moment in scripture, the gospel did not become man-centered, the glory still went to Christ. Also, Paul opened his mouth and spoke only six words: "Stand up on thy feet upright" (Acts 14:10 YLT) and a miracle happened. The crippled man sprang up on his feet and walked. We read these stories today and glorify Jesus. I should not think that any man would take the glory when I speak and the same things happen. My dad was proud of me when I negotiated awesome deals on his behalf as a teenager. I am sure that God feels the same if not better when we speak with the authority that He has given us. So to me, this song sounded perfect until I watched this video. I'd like to know what I'm missing.

When I lift my voice and shout Every wall comes crashing down “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but DIVINELY POWERFUL for the DESTRUCTION of fortresses.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:3-4‬ ‭ When I open my mouth Miracles start breaking out “DEATH AND LIFE ARE IN THE POWER OF THE TONGUE, and those who love it shall eat its fruit.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬ ‭ “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.” ‭‭John‬ ‭14:12‬ ‭ -- I’m exhausted (have allowed myself to be run ragged) by theologians waging war against monsters under the bed instead of allowing the body to be called to the life of faith that Jesus calls us to (biblically). Would love to see more robust, Spirit-led arguments to go alongside these claims, and perhaps more energy directed to equipping and empowering believers to be SALT AND LIGHT. Discernment goes along with that assignment. Relationship with Jesus, rather than fear, is the foundation of wisdom. “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:19‬ ‭ Remember friends, that wisdom is justified by her fruits.

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 NIV Just fyi...Proverbs is in a category called "wisdom literature." This verse is not saying that we can speak physical life or death into someone or some thing, simply by our saying so (aside from faith that God will do what one asks for). My point is, this verse has more to do with building up and tearing down ones value and self worth. The old adage "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Is along the lines of the meaning of this text. If you look at other scriptures in the Gospels and in the letters to the Churches (mostly written by Paul) you will see, without fail, faith is a must for a miracle to happen, and it has nothing to do with our speaking, but everything to do with our believing as in: Matthew 17:20,, Luke 17:6, Matthew 13:58, Matthew 8:13. Hebrews 11:6 takes it even further and says with out FAITH it is impossible to please Him. John 14:12 is a great verse, but without John 14:11, which says: BELIEVE me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least BELIEVE on the evidence of the works themselves. Very truly I tell you, whoever BELIEVES in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. Belief is also key here as well. We all have to not cherry pick verses standing alone, but read it in context with the verses around it to get the full meaning. We need to be careful doing this because it can cause others to believe a doctrine that isn't accurate.
@shelbyguizar9036
@shelbyguizar9036 2 жыл бұрын
@@mountainmama2101 I agree. Definitely took a risk cherry-picking like this, but my choice to do so was not informed by an urge to justify my own opinion but the pressure of what I believe Scripture clearly attests to. I am curious to know though, what false doctrine you think is being advocated for in this song and in my defense of it? God uses people as his hands and feet and his words throughout Scripture. The ministry of reconciliation, id argue, reflects the faith in our hearts and the words that flow from it. We often speak things that we believe. (“ if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:9‬) (cherry-picking perhaps again, but I think it is founded, at least for conciseness’ sake) Our words (not disparate from our actions) display the love of Christ (and love is a miracle) In the case of spiritual warfare, it is a miraculous gift Christ gives us to be able to speak the truth that can break down the strongholds in our mind. Faith in the completed work of Jesus is a huge keystone in the life of the Christian. Everything flows from this firm foundation - trust in Him. I didn’t mean to suggest anything otherwise. I would hope that people would be motivated to look at the context of the surrounding verses. I think there IS a harmful deception that says “if we say it, then it will happen”. (I.e. manifesting, without the power of God) I am not suggesting that anyone should use the tongue with power outside of the Holy Spirit. I don’t think it’s possible, and I don’t think (I certainly hope not anyway) this is what the song is getting at at all. Again I would really like to know what false doctrine you are thinking about here. Thank you for the thoughtful response.

My dear brother in christ, l am a songwriter, sometimes its difficult to express a whole of lyrics in a song than how those words are spoken, as children of God, when we open our mouths in praise or in prayers, the walls of sickness, be it cancer, diabetes, barriers, limitation etc, comes crashing down and remember it comes to pass as you declare and believe. Again in songwriting, there's not much space to express it the way the writer would want it if spoken, so l see nothing wrong with the lyrics, you are relating to these lyrics in a wrong way. God bless you.

@@innehjoseph That's such a misrepresentation of what the scriptures say. Some Christians get mixed up about the authority of the believer because they take verses out of context. Matthew 10:1, for example, says, “Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.” Some people claim authority over demons and sickness based on this verse, overlooking the fact that Jesus was speaking to a particular group of people (“his twelve disciples”) for a particular time of ministry. Others assert they possess apostolic gifts, claiming for themselves the same authority as Peter or Paul. Some people claim authority for the believer based on Old Testament promises to Joshua (Joshua 1:3), Gideon (Judges 6:23), or Israel (Deuteronomy 8:18; Malachi 3:10)-again, taking verses out of context. Other believers claim authority based on Mark 16:17-18, even though that portion of Mark’s gospel is a late addition and not original.

One of the traits of the Holy Ghost is self-control. He will not speak through you if you choose to be silent, neither shall he speak through you if you do not know what you are saying. Even if it sounds to the world like you are praising God. Acts 16: 16-18 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. Satan's favourite word is God's. That's what he used to deceive Eve, remember?

At around 4:27, Allen shares the lyrics, "When I lift my voice and shout every wall comes crashing down I have the authority Jesus has given me." People here are upset that Allen would say these words are in error. Those people believe the song refers back to the walls of Jericho, which it alludes to. But the song doesn't say, "When they lifted their voices...", it says, "When I lift my voice..." So in singing this, we as singers are putting ourselves in the shoes of those people. And each of us are declaring that we personally have that kind of power, and in fact that we personally have exercised that kind of power. To lift my voice and break down barriers. A man had drug addiction, and when I lifted my voice he was no longer addicted. A woman had cancer, and when I lifted my voice, the cancer was gone. A son walked away from God, and when I lifted my voice, the son repented. If the above statements are true of you, then you can argue with Allen. He's not saying God can't do these things, but that for those who sing this song, EVERYTHING they declare doesn't happen. And if we're honest, we'll admit that he is correct. The fact that some of the things you declare happen isn't what this song promises. It's every wall. I've met some great Christians, but I don't believe I've ever met anyone who could say "When I lift my voice and shout every wall comes crashing down." If this is true of you, personally, feel free to reply. But the argument Allen is making is that it's not true of those who sing this song.
