Here in the UK I run a project called Freebikes4kids. In the last 5 years over 3000 bikes have been donated,repaired and then rehomed by the project. All for Free! There is a huge bike surplus and a lot of generosity in the bike community ❤

This is exactly what I do in my shop. I saved 600 bikes in the last 11 years from the junkyard, most of them are sold or donated for less money or free to people which had not enough money for a new or expensive bike.

i started building bikes to help with my depression i was going through after my separation from a 23 year marriage. Was always into riding and fixing my own bikes as a kid. now i have 4 running bikes and 2 that are almost complete and a frame that i plan on making a gravel bike running 27.5s bicycles save my world that's for sure...

I Recommend going with the lowest # of speeds- most resilient to cable drag and cheapest chains. Poor people can't afford new 10sp chains as easily as a 5-6-7 sp. chain.
@HunterAtheistАй бұрын
Yep. 6,7,8 all use the same chain.
@glennpettersson9002Ай бұрын
I have a 1x4 from salvaged parts and that is plenty of gears for my shopping bike. I could make it 3x4 and that's the same as a 1x12 and I don't think cross chaining would be an issue.

And freewheel is a must, is cheaper than freehub
@billjameson1254Ай бұрын
@@kolotxoz Freehubs are stronger though and less likely to break an axle, so there's a ROI. Single speed though is very tough, due to shorter OLD.

Hello brother! I find these bikes with this geometry fascinating, especially the chromoly ones. Congratulations on the content.
@Βόρειο_Σέλας25 күн бұрын
Great initiative good on you. Bikes of this calibre ie cromoly, here in Australia cost a bomb because everyone wants a cromoly retro. People are selling them in crap condition for $150+, the ones in decent condition $400+, I have seen "restored" for $1200. So, yes anything with Cromoly sticker is in fashion here. I am amazed with one of your videos when you walk in the Thrifty store and pick one up for $10.

Do something crazy on this rockhopper! Repaint with white, buy some stencils or stickers with different shapes (leaves and trees would be nice, is a mountain bike), put in the frame and paint with a second colour. Then, remove them.. I did with my bike and looks awesome!

Good man Rob! Love this channel and the work that you do. I frequent our local collective for parts and occasional stand time to keep our fleet of ~12 bikes going, working up the courage to volunteer at some point. That gen of XT derailleur is I think very underrated, works great on 7 to 9 speeds even with a wide range, positive shifts even under load, and often can be found very inexpensively. Plus it's silver, a nice counterpoint to the current trend.

Absolutely! Not just that though, online abuse needs to halt as well. You only have to spend 5 minutes on social media to find at least 1 video or post where the comment section turns vile towards cyclists. I know you can just scroll past but it’s time there was a way to report comments on abuse towards a community ie cyclists otherwise we’re going to have a generation who think it’s fine to treat cyclists like second class citizens!

The 750 rear derailleur is over doing it . A 430 or 530/531 would be adequate . This job has lost money due to the amount of labour involved . All my second hand parts have been reconditioned where possible , before archiving them for future use . I bought two new old stock 750 derailleurs last week . The collective visit was "charity act" , and losses in part upgrades to be considered .

LOOK DUDE NON PROFIT IS SIMPLY ANOTHER BUSINESS MODEL THAT GIVES THE FALSE PERCEPTION THAT IT MIGHT BE PHILANTHROPIC & Charitable. It is simply another business avenue that people have picked up on & market. Bikes good, bike obviously changed the world. Bike collectives are often awesome, allowing people to work on their own bikes with skilled supervision on hand to assist & buckets of parts. Most companies flood the market and use salespeak to justify their products. I don’t consider visible welds craftsmanship. I have seen entry level Orbea with vomit welds for $1000. They target newbies & the majority with disposable income who just want a bike & don’t know any better. That’s lbs.

I used to own a TREK bicycle dealership in San Diego. The San Diego TREK Rep. Brian Nygren pioneered the FX series and after a few years it became the most popular model. Oddly enough, he never told me that he was working on the design, I only found out about his involvement years later.
@robertmcfadyen9156Ай бұрын
I found out about FX models slightly before the pre - release information was sent to dealers in my area , as they had received faxes about them which I saw .
