Nice one Chopsy. Thank you. Living in Melbourne, Australia (capital city of our smallest state by a long way). 400 kilometres, in any direction still leaves us in the same state! Especially when you consider east to west or top to bottom is basically the same distance as London to Moscow for your viewers who haven’t been down under yet to put things into perspective.

I’ve often thought that the XR is the sweet spot in BMW’s range and I think you’ve shown that in this series. The Belgian roads around the Ardennes are fantastic. I took my BMW K1 down to the area between Bouillon and Chimay last May and couldn’t believe how good the roads and scenery was. It’s a great area for biking all within a couple of hours of the tunnel/ferry 😊

Great video, gotta say I love the look of this new S1XR. Had the original 2015, loved it one of the best bikes I've ever owned. Did 20 countries and 45000 miles on it and it never missed a beat. Fixed the vibrations for less than a hundred quid, did my own memory foam conversion to the seat which I do to all my bikes (bony ass) and could ride it all day, day after day. Superb machine and the new one seems even better. Tempted. 👍😎FB

Nice ride, enjoyed coming along. I have considered the XR many times, but there are a couple of issues I struggled with: it’s tall, it’s top heavy, and in the model that I rode a bit vibey. My 1300GS with street tires is not as exciting, but as an all around road bike is hard to beat. Maybe they will add the adjustable ride height to the XR, that would make me reconsider.

Great video, thank you. This was a certain purchase for me and I currently have an S 1000 R and an RT 1250 R, as well as Ducati Diavel V4 but BMW have lost a guaranteed sale due to the height. If you’ve done multiple days of long touring, you’ve learned that at the end of the day when you’re tired being on tiptoe will mean at some point you’re gonna drop the bike. If you have a 29 or 30 inch leg, sadly, I’d find a different brand.

Depends what you want. I have one. I love it. It’s the best for me. I tried the 2024 GS and it’s not for me. Not sporty enough. But some older less experienced riders would find the GS more suitable. But if you’re in good physical shape and want a challenge the XR is the better bike. It’s a Porsche 911 vs a Bentley SUV.

I have found that I am happiest on solo trips. No Chinese parliament's over coffee stops and lunches. Done quite a few on my GSA1250. My daughter lives and works in the Netherlands so I have a great excuse to jump on the bike and go and see her from my home in Jersey. I then head south into the Black forrest and back across France before heading home again. Im off to see her in September and you have really wet my appetite. Im also thinking about a swap after 3 GS's to the XR as I don't really like the new GS or GSA. Great video Chops.

Nice bike addictive induction roar, sweet handling, fast top speed great looking 👍 Deal breakers for me (on the bucket seat version) just said it, for me the seat, and the chain is a pain, not great dollops of torque which makes road riding in the UK fun, side stand / too much lean. I do like my acc .. for me, boxer power, but either bike in the group would be simply amazing, interesting to hear no ass pain! That's a great improvement over the old one. Thanks for taking us along chopper

I have a Gen 1 XR and I’m just considering a trade in for a gen 2 and this video has made my mind up. I suspect the gains will be marginal but the decision is now made so can’t wait to throw my leg over the extra tbsp and lighter steering. I test ride an M1000XR recently and if money was no problem and I didn’t want panniers then I’d def go for an M. I have gen 4 RR and I think I preferred the MXR for have fun in the twisties. Hey Lamb Chop if you want to plot your route use something called a Michelin map, you know it's one of those things made of paper that you have to unfold.....You get a much better sense of perspective & orientation of where you want to go & where you have been & a lot more general information. Gps is great in towns or cities but for the big picture paper maps are far better. If you come to visit me in France & Spain I'll show you how to use one....free of charge.

After really taking the XR through it's paces over a long journey, have you had any thoughts on selling one of your bikes in favour of this? It makes sense to have a dedicated sports tourer in your garage than just sports bikes. I was surprised that you had no sore feet, back, neck and fingers AND it was so comfortable and didn't give you a numb behind either. That's a sign of a damn good bike. Plus it's not a GS.

Took my '22 TE to Europe three times last year, a great touring machine but gets hot in traffic in seconds, so much so the water pump started failing on the last trip (replaced under warranty). It's a more common fault than BMW care to admit and it tainted my trust in the bike. Two recalls and a second warranty claim nailed it in the end, it got sold last month. Great bike on the right roads though, very competent, all the farkles.

In Australia all petrol stations have a sign that you can’t sit on the bike while refuelling and also must remove helmet before entering to pay. I guess we are more criminals over here (and more static)

In sweden you cant pay for fuel afterwards anymore. Either you swipe a creditcard or you pay in advance.

Maybe nice in germany (where I am from) but i am stuck in Canada with a speed limit of 110 it's just not gonna end good. As much as I admire that thing. As soon as you did hit that road I thought it looks like germany but maybe not because the guy goes right to the left lane...🤷‍♀️

Chops fella nice click baity title but frankly it's horses for courses. One of the main draws on the GS was pillion comfort for her indoors & a shaft drive, the RS needs a good refresh, might even get one if they throw the 1300 at it.
