Frankly the best looking cars for were the late 60s early 70s box type car European and Japanese ones in particular. They have this simple yet elegant look to them. And they looked like the cars that you can own not some wild dream that is unachievable. It's like the girl you saw in that little black dress she may not have been as pretty as that supermodel you had a crush on in high school but you still fell in love with the girl in that little black dress

Way back, I had the basic 1600cc version of this car. Just a 4 cylinder OHC engine, and it wasn't that slow due to being so light. But the best part was the handling, precise and delicate. It went where you pointed it and never misbehaved. A superb driver's car.
@javiersilva1577 Жыл бұрын
How fun can one of these cars be? A car with less power but superb handling? I’m just getting into cars. By the end of July I will have saved 25k and I will bus a fun car. But I honestly have no idea what way to go. My top 4 to look at are a Golf, WRX, Volvo C30 and an audi A3. I’m thinking spend 15k to buy it and use the rest on upgrades. Any car suggestions for me to look at?
@wordreet Жыл бұрын
@@javiersilva1577 My personal choice from your list, would be the WRX, as I've always fancied one. But for a first "medium performance" car a Golf GTi would be brilliant. I drove a stock Golf 1500 in the first year they came out and was amazed by it's performance! It was quicker than a 2ltr Ford Cortina! So a relatively recent Golf GTi will be big fun. And mods should be easily available. I also drove my old man's Golf Convertible GLI later on and it was quick! Good luck with whatever car you choose matey!
@javiersilva1577 Жыл бұрын
@@wordreet Top 2 choices are Golf R and WRX. I live in Colorado so I need AWD. I’ve read WRX has a slight performance edge, but Golf is better overall. Thanks for the advice.

With these cars I’m usually conflicted with liking or disliking these with fender flares -- box or round. It really depends on my mood. This however he really nails it. Perhaps it’s the color that makes it soooo...spot on. And as I’m writing this he speaks about it and sums it up perfectly as if he was reading my mind. My favorite car ever. The M3 was faster but the (16) 02 was more fun, and great on dirt roads. Even with an open diff (although I added rear vw turning brakes to help switch drivesides when needed). Ive had mine in places youd never imagine. I lived 10 mi. past the pavement, and the jeep was so hoppy and rocky it just couldnt go fast, not to mention the low alternator would often get me stranded in the puddles (4-6' deep). The 02 though, independent suspension, 4:11 rear, floats like a vw bug, and so light it doesnt beat itself to pieces on the bumps. Ive had dirtbikes wave me past. Id catch air in 3rd gear. I had a new engine trans etc i wanted to swap, but the original gear is absolutely die hard. I got to be that way with it just like he says in the video about the chips. My carwash, was tight tunnels of brush scraping all sides. it takes most of the mud off and F the scratches, it wants to be driven. If you have engine issues, desmog it. Great car for climbing the paved twisty road up the hill, just as good in the dirt once up the hill. I also used to tell people "its not fast, its quick" Low top speed, but it jumps right to normal speeds. After an optical ignition upgrade, it would hold 6.5 k on the freeway all day if I wanted. Sometimes Id get the "special" spare tires from the junkyard and burn them off drifting private lots in town. The rounded tread and harder rubber makes it handle like you have another hundred horses.

This 2002 is just the perfect build! I thought that the M20 might be a bit to big and heavy?... From some perspectives it looks that the left side of the car is a bit higher and that the grill is not symmetrical. But still one of the most beautiful 02s out there!

Posters have praised the design of cars of this era, not many have mentioned that more than a few were influenced by the original Chevrolet Corvair, there are countless manufacturers that followed the trend, amongst them Hillman, NSU, Opel, BMW, even VW, just do a search of 70s carsband you’ll find many others. That BMW 2002 is a lovely thing, my German brother in law had one in the day, the fuel evaporated due to the super hot conditions going up the mountains and on the way down the brakes boiled on a fast Alpine trip in the summer of 1976, Not a problem, we hung about on the terrace of a great little Italian bar and enjoyed the view with a cold beer while they cooled.

Just building my own round tail light 1602, as a replacement for my E30 M3 (also featured in a Petrolicious video!), so it just had to be a 16V four cylinder on individual throttle bodies, standalone ECU, coilover suspension, LSD etc. Basically I wanted the classy look of an early 02 with the kind of performance I had in the M3. Builds like this video inspire me. I love the arch kit and colour choice too!
