i have a BMW XM…..and last summer i valet parked it in a parking garage. The guy parking the car accidentally backed it into a column. Fortunately my drive recorder was configured to record accidents. It was super helpful in showing exactly when, where and how the accident occurred. Best of all, the video downloaded directly to my BMW app so it was accessible from my phone. Needless to say, the parking garage company paid for the repairs. Getting parts on the other hand wasn’t so easy…..but that’s a story for another day. Great video…..keep it up.

I thought drive recorder only starts auto recording when airbags deployed? I am still debating to put regular dashcam as well because I want continuous loop recording which would work in parked mode as well. Why BMW can’t include that feature in Drive recorder app. Would have been helpful

Hi this is question regarding the shortcut screen from idrive8/8.5. When you pull down the shortcut page, can you make your shortcut bottons to go on top instead of having "screen off, do not disturb" column being at top? Is it adjustable?

It's only a option, and I believe it does have to come from the factory.

Thanks for the explanation of this feature! However, after getting in an accident (and if the airbags don't deploy), I might be too flustered to remember to hit the button within 20 seconds. I really wish it would record all the time while the car is on and just auto-delete older footage as needed. Hopefully that could be added in an update.

Anytime, thanks for watching. Yes my thoughts were exactly the same initially I do believe that Bmw makes a branded dash cam that could be fitted with an AB BMW. I honestly think that this one is the best thing to get rather than the dry recorder because as you mentioned , one would be really surprised or frustrated and not remember to press the button down after a major accident

@@BeamerView Agreed with above. In the UK it's £545 to fit a front & rear dash cam which looks a better bet than trying to remember which button to press when a pedestrian has just stepped of the kerb in front of you!

Hi, just want to ask with X7 2024, is there a way how store the Headup display settings (the format and what is shown)? It’s kind of annoying since I have to set it up to the view I prefer every time I start the vehicle….press the button on the steering wheel, go right to the head up setting and scroll up to my favorite view…..

On my new 2025 X5 there is no separate record button. You need to press and hold the P camera button

I'm looking at the X5 owner's manual on my phone and it says you have to press and hold the Parking Assist button, which has the 'P' with a traffic cone as its symbol.

I have X5 xDrive50e, wonder how much internal memory there is? i.e. how many 40 sec recordings will it hold before overwriting? There's a KZbin called "Wham Beam Dashcam" (also Wham Bam Teslacam) which shows the absolute utility of having built-in cameras all over the car.

It should be able to store about 10 x 40 sec clips. The oldest video will get deleted as you keep recording more. Good channel, i'll check them out. I do believe having some sort of video recorder is a absolute must these days.

In my 2023 X1 I have under Export a box to check for “also export raw data.” Should I have that checked off and what is it for. Does that mean it will automatically export videos to a USB port? If so, then would I have to have the port installed at all times? Also, how much time do I have before I lose the ability to press that button to record the 20 seconds? Thank you for this excellent video, I have looked at every one of them for my 2023 car. It’s been so helpful and has told me things even the Genius didn’t.

Not video related..but I follow u and thought I asked....I JUST put reg gas in my 2023 x1😮 filled it up not realizing until I saw the low cost. Will it mesa engine up??? It's just my 2nd time getting gas I've only had it 3 wks😢

I wouldn't worry too much. It would be bad if you were doing this consistently. If it were me, I would call the service department and get their thoughts on it first. Other option would be to drive it down to a half a tank and then put in 93 or the highest octane to offset the regular gas.

Great video. I use the feature as well. Question for you, have you made a video on how to turn off all the sensors when going through a car wash. Every time I go through a wash, all my sensors go crazy. Afraid of causing some sort of damage

Yes I may have mentioned it in one of my videos before, but couple things you can do. Most popular would be to just press the Park Assistant button located near the gear shifter to turn off the beeping sounds. Press it as soon as you begin to hear the sounds. Some vehicles with the parking assistance plus package (3d view) has a feature with that called "car wash view" I've noticed that when I use this the sensors automatically stay off.

The vehicle will always be recording technically. But it will only save the last 20 seconds and the next 20 seconds of pushing the button, when you press record.

No. Not like a dash cam while parked. It only records while in drive and an incident happened.

It does not. As far as I know it will only trigger if the airbags go off, or if you manual push the button to record. It doesn't have a g-force sensor like some dashcams do.

Will have to try that one out, I personally would rely on manual control since having important footage like that is crucial, voice command may not work 100% of the time and any delay there would lose some seconds you could've had in the recording.

I couldn't use Voice to actually start the recording, but it will take me to the Drive Recorder screen for the manual push

There was a voice command response prior to one of the updates back in April 2924cwhich eliminated voice command for drive recorder. Give a feature...take away a feature..good marketing plan BMW

Correct, you cannot record an entire drive. I believe you can have about 10 recordings before it starts to delete the last one.

Unfortunately, this is not a standard feature. Upon request, I was told that you need to subscribe and pay for it. The best option is to get dashcam that will record 24/7 with no extra fees. That will save you thousands of dollars...

We have drive recorder on our 2020 X5 and thanks to you we will dive deeper into it. We have the camera button on the console and the latest software update so we hope it gives us all the features you've pointed out.
