I am a chef and event planner. I stopped doing wedding planning because the brides’ expectations, entitlement and psychopathy became way too much. The level of insanity and narcissistic behavior is beyond the pale .

That's a shame. My sister is frugal AF. Her wedding cost less than those 20k, way less, about half, no kidding. We all helped (she wanted DIY decor, etc..) She could've afforded a six figure wedding, so money wasn't much of an issue but a personal choice (wasting so much money for a few hours? That was her reasoning.) Her bosses (millionaires) raved about her wedding. Several of them said they finally enjoyed a wedding (plus they thought she spent way more than she did!) I wish people would be more practical. All those stupid details ($8k boots?) no one notices or would remember!!! Get real! And people STILL mention her wedding to this date, how much they enjoyed it. They often say to my sister, years later, how her wedding was fun (normally after attending someone's wedding, they compared my sister's wedding to others.) Money doesn't make it memorable, y'all! Put heart into it, that's the key :)

@@Jose-Gonzalez-cfl That's so nice to hear. I got married at my mom's house and we had about 30 people there. My mom had a small catering order and bought the cake and that was all I asked for. I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses (I picked the color, but all the dresses were different, and it looked really cool!) and that was my gift to them. I put up the decorations myself and I'm still happily married over 25 years later. These people who expect extravagance - I can't wrap my head around it.

My husband and I got married in 1997 also for under $500. We had a church wedding, but since I was a member, it was free. My cousin had just started her floral business, so she asked if she could do my flowers to get her business name out there. Of course, I said yes since she wasn't charging me. My aunt made my gown, and my other aunts catered my reception. My husband's friend did photography as a hobby, and he asked if he could do our pictures as a gift. Another family made my cake (3 tiers) for $100. I bought decorations for my reception, which was held at my grandparents' 100-acre farm. My husband and I are still married and started our lives together debt free!

And then there’s me. Married in a private ceremony with just immediate family. No wedding party. Dress from Amazon 😅 Then we hosted a casual barbecue-style celebration in the back yard the next day with friends and extended family. It was perfect. I don’t need a fancy elaborate wedding nor do I want one. I’d rather save up for a vacation with my husband or a house (which we own now). Plus I hate being the center of attention 😂 And I certainly would NEVER EVER EVER ask anybody to spend hundreds of dollars on me let alone THOUSANDS?!? How insanely ridiculous is that?!? My best friend bought my dress, bra, shoes everything without my being there and everything fit perfectly. What a wonderful, happy day and they are still going.
