1:02 There is literally someone whose job it was to make the pen make that sound. There is a whole field of product design that _just_ focuses on making it sound good. They make sure your vacuum cleaner sounds powerful but not too loud and annoying. They make sure your car door sounds satisfying when it shuts, but doesn't slam. They make sure your foundation bottle makes a smooth click when you pump it out, but doesn't sound cheap and hollow. Someone spent a lot of time and r&d to make that pen have that satisfying pop. They're probably very proud of themselves right now. 😊

@@salaciousone Ux sound design I believe. I saw a video about it a while ago and was fascinated. It makes perfect sense from a marketing standpoint. If you want to sell a premium brand of, say, perfume, but the user experience feels cheap: the sprayer makes a weak or inaudible sound, the glass bottle sounds tinny and thin when placed onto a counter top, etc, the product will _feel_ cheap, even if it isn't. They spend a lot of time and money on r&d (research and development) and testing to make sure a premium product looks/feels/sounds premium. That click of a retractible pen needs to feel and sound just right. Often times extra thickness is added to the bottom of a glass bottle not for stability, but just to make sure it sounds and feels solid and weighty when you pick it up and put it down.

Us metalheads are the friendliest people you will ever meet. There is one universal rule when it comes to metal shows - you see someone down, you get them up. When someone from outside the scene comes to a metal show to hop in a mosh pit just to intentionally hurt people, they just put a target on their own back.

Mosh pits have their own etiquette. #1 rule is "Help up anybody that falls." I went to see Metallica back in 2003. During the opening acts' sets, mosh pits opened up a few times. An older middle-aged dude, who was clearly high as a kite and in his own little world, kept wandering through the pits. Nobody touched him, because they understood he wasn't there to be part of the action. After he did this a couple times, he eventually sat down in the middle of one pit. This annoyed a little skinhead guy who was moshing around the outside of the circle. The skinhead kept staring at the dude sitting down, then he got in a football 3-point stance, getting ready to launch himself at the older guy. Right as he was about to take off, a guy about twice the size of the skinhead swooped in out of nowhere, scooped him up, and disappeared into the crowd. Somebody helped the older guy up and got him out of the pit. I didn't see the skinhead for the rest of the concert😂

There’s a band I’ve discovered called Bloodywood. It’s a metal-Indian folk fusion and the song that got me hooked was “Dana-Dan” where, in one concert there was a super-sized mosh pit. I learned recently that all birds are in fact dinosaurs. They are beaked dinosaurs as opposed to snouted dinosaurs. I thought they were closely related, but no, they are the exact same thing. Birds are the dinosaurs that did not go extinct after the meteor hit earth. Large carnivores were at the biggest disadvantage during the fallout, hence why modern birds are small in general. There also used to be beaked dinosaurs with teeth but the ones without teeth are the ones that survived to present day.

Honestly, as someone who has been to a metal concert, Moshpits are a lot more chill most of the time. If shit does start to get heated, someone's friend usually calms them down, but it isn't uncommon to see people get thrown down only for the same person to offer them a hand back up.

The city of Flagstaff, Arizona is home to the Lowell Observatory (where Pluto was discovered!), and light pollution was making it hard for the telescope to see the sky. The city switched to a different kind of lightbulb and also put covers over the tops of the bulbs so the light only aimed down at the street. Made a big difference. I wish we could get all cities to do this.

The problem with a night of darkness would be public safety. Crime is easier to commit if no one can see, and it's been shown that inadequate outdoor lighting leads to a sharp increase in the number of muggings and violent crimes. Although we'd be able to see the night sky, it could be more unsafe to go outside to see it in the first place depending on the type of city you live in. Granted, it's not like having lights prevents crime entirely, but it is a concern that I wish could be resolved so that we could see the night sky. Some of the biggest sources of light pollution are high-rise buildings and corporate advertisements on those buildings, oftentimes those are far brighter than entire blocks of street lamps, but good luck passing a law to get corporations even a second without a chance to advertise themselves.

Something you need to consider though is that while you’re technically correct, birds today are so evolutionarily far removed by now from dinosaurs that calling them dinosaurs is like calling amphibians and reptiles fish which also wouldn’t technically be incorrect either.
