After an attempted overthrow of a Presidential election, saying "Both sides aren't great", is not sensible analysis it's false equivalence. It's something people say to themselves to justify not voting for the other party. I really am sympathetic, it would be very hard for me to vote against the party I've supported most of my life & more often agree with. But I think there's a need for honesty. When one party believes in the peaceful transfer of power and another sends a mob to fight against it, they're not both "as bad as each other".

Remind me- which side had violent riots after the 2016 election all the way up to Inauguration Day? Which side had fiery and deadly riots all over the country all throughout the summer of 2020 (including one right outside the White House, attempting to breach the perimeter)? Which side rioted outside the house of a Supreme Court Justice and threatened his life? And every single one of these were encouraged and financially supported by prominent politicians from that side. I'll put it bluntly: you are a braindead cultist if you actually believe the whole "Jan 6 was an insurrection" narrative.

While I agree that there is some “both sides” doing this, there is a distinction of degrees. Over this weekend Trump posted AI photos of Kamala in the old socialist Russian uniform. I mean, c’mon. She is not a socialist, despite all of his attempts to say she is. He literally said he would be a dictator on day one. Calling that out is not bashing him. He said it.

I think it's just "let's be open to new ideas, but also very slow to correct bad ones." versus "There wasn't anything wrong with our old ideas, so why are you trying to make new ones?" One party is all about change, though sometimes to a fault; the other party is against change that "insults" their beliefs or values.

I'm sorry, Ken, but you don't know what you are talking about. First, you lack historical perspective. Go take a look at political cartoons and articles from the 1700s through about 1950. They were uuuuuuugly. Second, the relationship between Reagan and Tip O'neil was possible because they shared, as did nearly all Americans at the time, the same basic values. So, yeah, their differences were differences of policy. Americans no longer share the same values, and by miles not inches. So the fight you are seeing is civilizational in nature. People are fighting for their vision of what America should be based on a value system, they are not fighting to figure out the best way to achieve a shared vision as in the past. No, the current candidates are definitely not good choices, but it wouldn't make things less ugly, because it's the values fight, not the policy fight.
