Try a monopod with a cheap light plastic video head and that lens. Makes the monopod very easy to work with. Remove the video head handle and just put a little tension on the pan and tilt adjustment.

I'll have to make this quick before the camera police show up to haul me away for using a tripod. I have the Sony 200-600mm and leave it at 600mm always...and only zoom wide occasionally. Zooming is not a problem...it's an advantage. The manual focus throw is good. I use that along with autofocus as I shoot fast moving subjects with difficult backgrounds that make subject recognition tough. I do like that the Sony focuses much closer than this ttArtisan. And I have my doubts about the ttArtisan being sharper. Regardless, if the manual focus is too slow to get the shot, sharpness won't matter. I'll be sticking to my Sony...and the 1.4x teleconverter. 500mm prime that doesn't take a teleconverter...hard no. If you want something really light, I have an old film era Spiratone 400mm lens. Screw threads...get an adapter and you are on your way to piss poor pictures. 🤣

Love the '50s Sci-Fi movie sound effect at 0:23! Many years ago, I had a 100-300mm Canon zoom lens, where the focus ring was very hard to turn as well. I took it to Henry's (on Queen) and a guy there did something to loosen it up somehow. Perhaps someone there, or at Aden, could do something to fix your new lens too, Kasey?

oddly I am running the same lens with a nikon z50, got mine as a gift from TTArtisan in south africa, it is a hard lens to use for myself since I have never really used a lens that long, though agree with every point that you made, also notice on the side the lens is marked as a cinema lens , tried it for some slow mo hobo video with the z50 and was actually pleasantly surprised at the resalts, now if nokon would only make a better aps-c body that would be great

I finally got the Nikon Z 180-600mm. Its fine lens. I feel you on the primes though. I don't know how it compares to your sony 200-600mm. I looked through 100s of photos and found that most of my shots were in the 500mm range. Those dang nikon z primes are expensive as hell. I can't afford it 😢 this lens you're reviewing looks fun. Especially for the price. I saw another review on it recently, apparently its good enough to use for deep space astro photography.
@3lfaromeo4 ай бұрын
I've been obsessed with possibly buying a mint nFD 500mm f4.5 for the XT4 but this ttartisan lens appears to pretty much equal the image quality, 1kg lighter, and only half a stop slower. Nice background too. Ergonomics seem shit though, hard edges and stiff focus ring.. the focus ergonomics of the old canon pro film manual lenses are so well designed.

@nicedward75446 ай бұрын
That thing actually looks amazing for the price. There's a couple of those artisans lenses I've tried that i like a lot. I think it has to do with the limited amount of glass that gives them vintage character while still being sharper than most vintage glass. My next lens might be the 50 1.05 from the 7artisan variety.... Or the Zeiss 55 for twice the price idk. I already have so many lenses in the 40-65 range. I still don't think anything will beat the voigtlander 65

It's the same problem as my canon 300/2.8 fluorite, the focus has a huge throw and turning it makes everything shake with how hard it is, you can't do it pushing with just a thumb If this one had a fast focus throw it would be my dream lens on a stabilized body

I have literally watched every Video ever made on YTube about this lens even if the Language wasn't something in English. But I still can't make a definitive conclusion so guess I will have to actually buy it and see for myself. Everyone that has reviewed this lens has talked about the Stiff Focus Ring and that was from day One of Release. So nothing has change since. TTArtisan should make a 400mm f5.6 version that would be a even better seller. B and H are always selling out of the 500mm f6.3 version. The Background in your Nature Video isn't doing this lens any favors. Pretty sure that most folks would like to see how well it renders in better background conditions.

Over the last several years, I have seen several reviewers say there really isn't much difference many times in using the Body IBIS alone as opposed to using the Body and in-lens image stabilization in combo. Or even just using in-lens image stabilization by itself. Granted, some of the Lens in the Last year might have gotten better, but so has in Body IBIS. So for a Lens with ZERO in-lens image stabilization, the latest and greatest Cameras with IBIS might just do the trick.
