@@julieniemeyer925 really well. Mostly gifts but you can add paint to personalize the pieces for different dolls. I also too the basic garden basket idea, made the slats longer, attached them to the centers of the end pieces, and modified the tops of the ends for a doll bed (Some straight cuts and one with a jigsaw cut to resemble a castle). I haven't tried to sell much, but if you have 18' dolls in mind a tweak here and there gets you into the "rustic farmhouse" doll furniture business, and those people (my wife included!) spend big buck on that kind of thing!

Well done! Especially the explanation of profit margins for Smalls. It's not rocket science, Make a decent Profit or don't build it! All I make are smalls! The AD Chair takes me about 15 min with pallet wood. I use jigs and a 23g pin nailer and glue. My Goal is to sell 500 this year.

I love this! I've built several picnic squirrel tables from scraps before you did the video. I'm known for my adirondack chairs that are pretty fancy. So to reinforce your breakdown of profit, I sell my chairs for $300-$350 each and it takes about 15 to 20 hours to make one. I have an outlet for my cedar materials, but I still spend about $90 on materials. In the end it breaks down to less than $15 an hour for profit. I've definitely learned that the money is in the smaller builds! But for certain people I will still build the full size chairs. It has made demand for my chairs that much higher because I don't make many of them. In the spring I make a few versions of planters that are quick, but beautiful builds. Thanks for all the inspiration!
@b3arwithm3

That is a very low hourly rate. Especially if you factor in the cost of buying your tools, the shop space, and small things needed like screws, sand paper, stain, etc.
@quadsquadracingable
@quadsquadracingable Жыл бұрын
@daddybear236 Absolutely!! That's why I build the full size chairs for basically family and close friends!! I build firetables too, and when I want a big profit I do a table or a bunch of planters. I can build 5 planters in a day at $75 each of profit. Most of my woodworking is for my mental health, but I like to buy new stuff with its profits too
@b3arwithm3
@b3arwithm3 Жыл бұрын
@@quadsquadracingable same here. I do woodworking as a hobby and stress relief. I gift the stuff to friends. Never manage to sell anything at a reasonable price. People expect to buy from "classified ads" as 1/3 of the IKEA stuff. Not even worth the hassle to communicate with them.

I built two chairs. and a table from the scraps left over. It cost me $125 for rough and S3S black locust, plus screws, plus time. Most people are not going to pay for a hand-crafted Adirondack chair when they can buy cheap throwaway Chinese/Indian crap from HD and Lowes. So I totally agree. People will waste their money on tchotchkes and such before they will buy higher-end quality items. I love your channel. Keep it coming.

tough call!!!! the chair and swing each are unique but the table lends itself to sets, ie 9 -12 - 15. i built the table first cuz it was easy and i used scraps from fan trellis's and planters. that's another plus for all 3 - using cut offs from other projects. unfortunately my wife got to the table before the squirrels....it's a plant stand for a peace lily. love your channel. highly insprational

This one is tough. I mean, all 3 are winning designs! If I consider each of these as squirrel feeders as presented, then my vote goes for the Adirondack chair design with a modification of the corn cob screw location to be on the chair. My decision is based upon placement of the feeders and squirrels seem to prefer to eat high off the ground and more out of site of predators. However, if I consider these designs for creative uses, the Adirondack chair comes in last place because of the attached platform. It looks like it is required for stability. My winner for most uses other than as a squirrel feeder is the picnic table. Now, as a gardener, my personal favorite is the swing. I’d remove the screw and secure a small terracotta pot or two and fill with a fern and a vine. I may need to make the build a little larger or at least slightly longer. My decisions are from the customer’s perspective rather than the seller’s perspective which considers costs and profit. I can’t remember which one was able to get two projects from 1 picket or which one had the best profit margin, etc. I’m just very impressed with all of the final presentations. ~ Rob

Matthew, I have a question. I apologize if you have already answered this (but I doubt it, as I look forward to, and watch your videos fairly religiously) Why do you flip your boards on medium rips as opposed to just pushing through? I know you have an outfeed table so I am curious if your method is beneficial? Thanks

@MatthewPeechWoodworking
@MatthewPeechWoodworking Жыл бұрын
Hey! I flip the boards for both speed and safety. By flipping half through the rip I keep my hands away from the blade and I dont have to walk around to get the piece to re-run or stack.
@melodywilson5255

@MatthewPeechWoodworking I've done that for longer cuts because I don't have an outfeed table. So do you have to turn the saw off, or just flip and keep going? Those clips are usually sped up so I can't tell. Thanks Matt!!

I just want to give a shout out 🎉 for the PICNIC TABLE, I think the only reason it doesn’t get more votes is because we have seen different versions of them around for years. The swing and the chair are more unique. I truly think that if you make any full size item into a cute “smalls” you will have good luck with them. There is something about mini’s that people like, a small version in an area of interest to any consumer will at minimum raise an eyebrow or two 😊

I love all of the builds (yours and the kids), but I think my choice is the adirondack feeder with the metal bucket - would work for squirrels and birds alike. I'm buying all the plans to support the kids though. ***I tried to by the Kids plans when the last video dropped, but ETSY kept telling me "too many connections". I figured out it was because I had my VPN turned on. Turned it off and logged in to ETSY just fine today*** Love your videos and I have learned a lot from you!!!

Love this ideal. This should be a big seller in my area. Just wondering where you picked up the little pail at. This is a good idea too. Could be used for sun flower seeds,peanuts,bird seed or anything else. Any information would be appreciated. Have a nice day and thanks.

You know I have watched a lot of your videos and have made many items to sell or the wife claims before, either way I’m happy. I sell some Adirondack chairs, modern, traditional, and my favorite one is from kings fine woodworking, I think that is it anyway I sell all pine or if the customer wants cedar I tell them the price then we go back to pine that I finish with an outside treatment, but it takes 15 hours to build 2 maybe I could buil 3 or 4 in day 20 hours but the point is 15 hours and I make if I laser engrave, a fair amount but like the squirrel picnic table I could make 10 in an hour and make $200-$300 be pending on wood ( picket fence) anyway keep busting out the videos thanks so much for explaining and giving me and other inspiration

Well that is a tough choice to make, for me it all depends on where you want to put it in your yard. For that reason, I am going to go with the PORCH SWING 😊 and I’m going to make all three! Thanks for all the great ideas you provide here on your channel!!!

This is a tough choice. I think the chair will be easier to find a place to mount but being a southern girl, I definitely have to go with the (porch) swing. 😊❤

Great video as always. When using fence pickets do you sand them down first? If so, do you just a hand sander or a drum sander, or????????

Enjoy watching your videos. I’ve noticed that many times when ripping boards you will rip halfway and flip your material and finish the cut. Any benefit to this?

These are all cool. I do love the squirrel swing, a great creative build. However, I don't think the squirrels would enjoy the movement too much. Love the Adirondack chair, especially with the screw or bucket option. This was too close to call. 😂

If I build one of those chairs, it won't be a feeder for squirrels but leave out the corn cob screw and sit a teddy bear on the chair, it will be a popular decor item. Thank you for making the video.
