Hey Phil! I see you are using a lot of low commercial of lower sizes, which all have some parking lots built in, after a lot of trial and error, here are a few I found (which might require a bit of wack-a-mole) Width x Depth 4x6 NA low commercial - Has a nice gas pump AND station combo but requires a lot of wack-a-mole as a few restaurant-looking ones are in the same footprint 5x5 NA low commercial - Has a REALLY NICE strip-mall looking building without any parking. They look great next to eachother for a shopping area surrounding a parking lot! 5x5 EU low commercial - Has a decently looking building for a road corner. 4x6 EU low commercial - Has a decent warehouse-ish building with loading docks on its side There are also a few wider but shallow buildings which are decent, like 6x3, 5x3, 6x4. Overall, I've found while I hate anything 4x4 or under, as soon as you hit 5 or 6 in a direction, they actually look much better and most of them don't have awkward parking on the asset! Hope this helps!

I find it strange the High School doesn't have road access to its own stadium. If a student gets injured, service vehicles would have to drive through the harbor which is the only road access. You could have repurposed the old highway bridge into a pedestrian road instead of building that arched pedestrian bridge which would give utility vehicles access while dissuading regular traffic. Loved the episode though, the whole build is looking amazing!
@simongeard48248 ай бұрын
Yes, putting a "pedestrian only" sign (and maybe a vehicle gate) on the old bridge is much more realistic than going to the expense of scrapping it and designing and building a dedicated footbridge. The latter would only happen if the bridge were unsafe...

@@CityPlannerPlays One of my favourite local bridges is down on what used to be industrial land at the local port... a lifting bridge that connected two areas of the waterfront for both trucks and rail. These days, the industry is long gone... the bridge is now pedestrian only, serving as a major link between what are now two major hospitality areas. Sadly, it doesn't move anymore. It was an ingeniously simple mechanism - just a well-balanced counterweight and a tiny motor - and I remember being captivated by it as a child. There's no need for a lifting bridge there nowadays, it being too small for most of the modern boats to fit through, but I do with they could keep it in working order.

Hi Phil, I'd probably consider adding sloped paths from the marina up to the giant quay so people don't have to walk all the way around it to access it. I know this probably isn't that realistic and would be better if we had access to stairs.
@jerrytg54278 ай бұрын
There’s a few issues that I have with today’s build that I just can’t ignore. It’s quite ridiculous that a student, parent, etc would need to leave the school campus to drive between the highschool and its stadium. A direct road should be connecting the two instead of driving through the harbor where the school traffic may impact the work day of the harbor, etc. Also the marina needs a boat ramp. A couple of other nice add ons would be parking lots for the buildings next to the post office and more dense trees between the highschool and harbor to help with air and noise pollution.

Even for an artificial beach with imported sand, the beach area isn't looking super convincing to me, I'd make it a longer terrace hugging a lower contour line, separated from the grassy shore by (sorry!) a slight ledge. I'm getting flashbacks to when Weymouth imported hundreds of tons of dredged sand to zhoosh up their seafront for the Olympics, only for an April storm to immediately sweep it out to sea and create a navigation hazard offshore! Speaking of seafront development, call me European but the little commercial strip by the marina would look amazing with some medium-density mixed-use, idk if the lot sizes will be right though, and I'd feel sorry for the folks in the cheap apartments on the retaining wall side. Maybe down the line as the harbour grows and changes, and IDK how realistic it would be for a Superior port, I'll have to look over my old photos from Duluth. Re: "The students won't care about the water treatment plant," I spent some of my teens in the town of Shepton Mallet in Somerset, which was known county-wide as S**t'n'Smellit for the row of water treatment works laid out along the western approach to town. I guarantee it's going to go down in the student mythos as something like Sewerview High, if not among Chairity Bay students then definitely among students from Mineral Hills!
@melissaharris33898 ай бұрын
Having the stadium right next to the sewage treatment was questionable. All visiting teams and spectators are immediately going to see and smell it during games. Also, having a school zone and playground so close to industrial and sewage treatment might cause (or at least be perceived as) detrimental to children's health. The students might not care, but the staff, faculty, and PTA probably will.
@asaadmatook63798 ай бұрын
I have a few tips. 1. Add paths to connect the commercial areas with the residential areas so that people can buy. 2. Make the beach area more shallow and gradual (the light blue color of water looks better and more realistic). 3. Add parking space at the marina. 4. Few trees at the empty spaces in the main park. We always struggle to find shaded areas at our newly built park bcz they wanted it to be "open" but our avg annual temp is like 39 c° 😂😂😂
@dogsoneup8 ай бұрын
Definitely needs a parking lot on the marina. Where do people park when they go boating? Next to the food cart lot makes sense for it.
@jacobfife72738 ай бұрын
Also with the beach, the sand wouldn't really go all the way up to the road. They'd be separated by either pavement or grassy areas, and thats where some changerooms, toilets and seafood shops (fish and chips) would be. Mariner definitely needs parking too, that was my biggest thought watching that. Not sure if theres the right assets in game but if I were Phil, I'd delete a few of those commercial assets until they look like tackle shops and/or seafood resturaunts.
@giannis87788 ай бұрын
Hey just wanted to say that as they are the breakwaters do a poor job of protecting the marina. Ideally their ends should overlap. So in this instance (as seen at 48:08) you could remove the angled part of the left breakwater and extend the right one so it goes past the left one, leaving one small opening to the left. I hope that makes sense!

Hi Phil! Incredible build, as always! One thing I would consider changing is the road access to the parking lot near the stadium. I think you should change up the location of that parking lot for the high school. That high school has a capacity of 800 kids not to mention admin. That’s roughly 850-900 people and probably around 75% of them will use that parking lot everyday. That road is way to close to a major intersection and in real life that intersection would be hell to drive through from around about 0700-0900 and 1400-1600 every weekday. Would probably cause lots of students to be late to class in the morning and would probably take the average person at least 30 minutes just to get out of the parking lot after school. Especially with the homes there, having that little cluster of homes being in the same cul-de-sac as the high school parking lot would likely make those residents unhappy

Extra water with nowhere to go other than into your port district. Still, this is just a game. ;) Also, I'm wondrous that Charity Island isn't just a huge factory site. That's usually what happens next to river or sea ports. Huge industries. Suggestion: Makes sense to have that road by The high school stadium connect to the highway so parents don’t have to go through the industrial zone to get to their kids football game

You can open and closer the Add Object menu with the Home key and it'll always work, just don't close it with the X 👍

Fan of the detail - now let’s add Anarchy
@brodymackinnon19898 ай бұрын
I have missed the level of detail you usually put in your builds I'm glad to see it come back! I say keep at it because a lot of these features like props and surfaces should be in the base game!

I'm really glad you took the step of adding these few extra mods & dev tools into this build. This completely levels up the build, really livens it up. So I'm all for it. And you will probably have already read it in other comments, but I gather from Biffa's videos that if you close the dev mode menu by the home button again, rather than closing it with the X, you can open it up again.

the marina with a steep road leading down to it... actually quite common where I live. We're in the Zig-Zag mountains (not making that up) with man-made lakes. We have a lot of marinas and even smaller boat launch ramps that have incredibly steep roads leading down to them.

Personally, I was a big fan of the vanilla-centric process. Most will probably disagree, but I'd really love if the series returned to that; minimal modding, vanilla-restricted detailing, etc.

Is there a way you can add a Lighthouse for the harbor. I think that would be dope to see from the park. WHAT!!!! No parking by the marina…

Honestly the marina build is easily one of the best in the whole city its such a creative thing to build😭 They need to add boat assets for these kind of things

hey CPP! absolutely loving the build so far, your first episodes on CS2 were how i found your channel and this series in particular is such a showcase for your skills and design sensibilities! something i think might fit well into Magnolia County is a park inspired by Vollrath Park in Sheboygan! it's basically an all grass oval-shaped amphitheater right on Lake Michigan that is home to both graduation ceremonies and a disc golf course. it's actually got an interesting history that you could draw from too - the plot of land was once the site of the secluded mansion of wealthy local industrialist Jacob Vollrath. in 1912 the house caught fire and was destroyed, and the Vollrath family would then turn the land over to the city in memory of Jacob (who had died years before the house burned down). in its early years the park contained a man-made lagoon, as well as a zoo that was founded mostly because people just kept bringing exotic animals to the park for some reason. most people in town don't even know the zoo ever existed! where most people now see just some grassy bowl to hang out in has some hidden layers to it that reflects both the history of the industry which had defined the Sheboygan area and still leaves its legacy throughout the county as well as now-forgotten little oddities i could imagine some elements of this story could find their way into being elements of a beautiful custom park which provides a scenic view of the water, as well as inspiration for fleshing out the region's history and adding some character to the region! if you read this CPP thank you for all the work you put into making these videos, as well as for helping put this homesick cheesehead's soul at ease everytime you pronounce drag with that wonderful long A :)

Hi Phil! I’ve been loving this series so far as it feels almost like this games version of Verde Beach! I personally prefer less use of mods/dev tools as it starts to get too complex for me, but I think you should continue doing what works best and is the most fun for you! Thanks for another great and high quality video!!

I hope the developers take note of some of the mods and seriously consider including them in future updates or DLC. Also, enough of the smokestacks in industrial zones! If they were zoned as Heavy Industry, than maybe? But most of our local industries are usually warehouses or small manufacturing facilities around here in Olympia, Washington. We have a few larger Heavy industrial areas south of here, but they tend to kind of be their own thing and far away from most major cities or towns. I wish you could select between Light Industry or Heavy industry. That would really make things more realistic, in my opinion.

hello, i have an idea for roads inspired from sweden where i live, that are a common way of building medium-high traffic roads in a cheaper way than 4-lane roads. We have roads called 2+1 roads, were one way gets 2 lanes and the other have 1 lane, and these continously switch so that cars can pass trucks safely without entering the opposit traffic. some examples are road 34 between Vimmerby going all the way too Motala, and another great example is road 55/56 going between Norrköping and Katrineholm. a very diffrent idea that is cost effective because it doesn't need special service interchanges because slip lanes for left and right turning work fine for these roads. the cons are that traffic sometimes back up behind trucks if the 1-way lane is a bit longer, but the cars get their chance to pass these trucks later on anyway. hope this is interesting :D

please turn parking fee off near non-commercial buidlngs, people don't want pay parking for 7h+ when they work. maybe that's why those parking are empty (industrial zone etc)

Love that you've preserved the old highway alignment over the railway tracks as a pedestrian bridge, but could we preserve the bridge itself as well? I feel like there would be no point to knock down an over-built and still within its useful life heavy road bridge to replace with a lightweight pedestrian bridge. Could maybe upgrade that pedestrian path with a pedestrian road. It would also provide better emergency access and services access to the stadium.

I hope in some upcoming DLC's for cs2 they could add, community centers, or proper religious buildings. Maybe even some unique housing assets like trailers or tiny homes.

Hi! I work as a project manager for the sanitation department in my city (Europe) I'm unsure about the standards in other countries but here treated sewage water does NOT have the quality to be drinkable water! After the water is treated, it is released back into rivers or streams and not back into drinking water pipes! This bothers me so much in the game!

I love the idea of using the cemetery sub buildings as churches. A tip-- if you hit "home" it will close the developer mode object menu and allow you to reopen it with "home." Don't use the x.
@Grannyok38 ай бұрын
Hey Phil, I think you should call a mulligan on the pedestrian bridge to the stadium, and instead replace it with a 2-lane road and make 2nd street connect all the way through to the stadium. You should also cut off access to the port road from the stadium, making 2nd street the only access point.

29:05 I think row homes would make the most sense at the top of the cliff. The height gives people a better view to see over the harbor, and the townhomes optimize the development density without putting too much strain on the cliff wall itself. 30:18 you might really have a slip lane (accessible to/from one direction only) right there to reduce traffic at the main intersection

I noticed you don't focus on trafic flow anymore in CS2. Is there as specific reason for that? Is the information not available, or the simulation bad?

I cannot tell if it's a good thing that state and corporate interests exist so inexorably linked at the highest echelons of society where players on both sides make deals with the money of the public at large on the line funding the benefits of private equity through various means. I don't think corporations were ever meant to have the power and influence they currently possess

Hey Phil. Love this series and love how the city is fleshing out. In case you were not aware, you can create custom parking lots by using the dev menu, there should be an invisable path option, you could also use it to create roads that have parking on the edges of them like you see in some beach towns.
@thespanishinquisiton83068 ай бұрын
I think you should add a few trees between your gazebo and the industrial area. I imagine people wouldn't like the lookout all that much if they had to constantly listen to the sound of machinery in the background

I love the parks and the detailing but man that stadium placement.. it's so close to the water treatment plant the athletes could point to what they had for dinner last night. Nothing like breathing in shit fumes when you're recovering after a run 😂

23:29 and 52:34 in hs i went to another hs for a track and field event that had a similar sports facility next to a highway just like this, the sound wall is a nice touch but i think a small treeline would be a bit more realistic given the one i was at had simply that and a tall chain-link to separate the highway. personal preference but would like to see it or at least hear your thoughts on thanks

Please fix the houses on the beach. A Midwest build doesn't have that due to flooding and erosion. Look at the Kankakee river news.
@paigefoisy5463Ай бұрын
I know this is an old video, but as a Florida resident, that seems like a REALLY small parking lot for the beach. Is it different up north? Also I wonder if there’s a way to make those texture areas fuzzy at the edges instead of solid lines
@CityPlannerPlaysАй бұрын
Depends on the location, but generally they are much smaller. Beach culture just isn't the same - if anything, it's more of a fishing/boating culture. Our beaches just aren't as nice as yours!

As a waste water engineer…. That treatment site gives me the heebie jeebies being at sea level. Climate change, storm surge, spring tides you name it and it gets flooded, though this reflects reality - we have as an industry sited far too many critical assets in non resilient, convenient spots!
