This Bus has a Powerful Engine

Apparently if you start a title with the word 'This' it lures people into watching it so I thought I'd try it 🤷‍♂️
Anyway here is a Cummins 6 Cylinder Optare Solo SR climbing Slack Hill. Although the bus has plenty of power sometimes the gearbox can't keep up with the engine, the gearboxes response generally slows the bus down, but 99% of the time this is by far one of the (joint) most powerful buses I've driven. Seen here climbing Slack Hill.

They’ll be mostly 205hp with the 6.7 and 185hp with the 5.9 though 6.7s had a 215hp option and 205hp for the 5.9

The familiar sound of the 6-Cylinder Engine more commonly found in the V1170 Optare Versa’s, I note with a different gearbox sound or that’s the axels but I am familiar to that sound of the pull always, great video as always

Before Diamond Bus North West took over, South Lancs Travel had a dozen 6cyl Cummins engined Solos. They were seriously quick! To this day, I can only think of a handful of buses that would have kept up with the SLT Solos.

At Stagecoach South Wales we have 4 Cummins powered Solos and they are absolutely amazing! Scared me once when reversing, i had been driving a 200MMC all day, need to plant your foot to move when in reverse, but this solo went flying 😂

there's quite a few cummins engine swapped solos. the m880 slimlines that came with MAN engines in them have cummins engines. and then there's the 10.2m solos that had the same engines as this (well roughly the same) it's a real shame they're leaving the fleet now

Some people may not believe this or think I'm mad for saying this but I have worked with Enviro 400 Hybrids and I have to say for power and comfort they're perfect. Just a shame they only have a top speed of 48mph!
