This project reminds me of the way houses sit in the landscape in parts of Denmark and Sweden, I was there last year. They are also really good there at creating this peacefulness and keeping respect for nature by making the building look "quiet".

I love how the building feels tucked away, almost cradled by the sand dunes and grasslands between the ocean and the home. It doesn’t just sit on the landscape but becomes part of it. The low-pitched roof and its materiality remind me of a fallen sand fence, like at 5:00, which makes the whole design feel even more intentional and connected to its surroundings. It’s such a smart, understated move. Job well done to all involved.

This is an absolutely beautiful property. Very warm and inviting. I gotta say though, there is such a stark contrast with how the owner/designer talks vs how the architect talks. If I hear one more "the sense of" or "-ality". 🤣 I don't think the architects realize "the sense of comicality" it peppers our ears with. It does go great with the cinematography though. Very beautiful property 🥂

As a well travelled Kiwi living in the US, New Zealand is by far the most talented architecturally focused country in the world (easy) and by easy I mean worlds ahead of anywhere. America while flushed with cash and could barely design and build a shed worthy of a NZ design compared with this. I am designing building my first US house and look to my NZ "bros" for inspiration. Nice work and I can't wait to knock ya socks off with a Kiwi/US build. =)

Breathtaking home, the result of an uncompromising architect and designer working together. The only let down was the wallpaper at 7:11. It doesn't fit this home. It reads like a cartoon, befitting another kind of home. I feel like someone pricked the balloon and let out all the air. I would've instead used something like Glamora's Silenzio wallpaper. Far more beautiful and appropriate for this kind of architecture. It's an easy fix. To each their own, however. With great respect to architect and designer. I bow.

The wallpaper is by an Aotearoa/New Zealand artist, Lisa Reihana; it's based on a famous art installation she created, "In Putsuit of Venus (infected)", which itself is based on a 19th century French wallpaper by Joseph Dufour et Cie. So in a way, the artist's intention has come full circle!

@@etnocs I'm not arguing the artist's intentions. I'm sure Lisa Reihana is quite accomplished. So is Damien Hirst but he's not everyone's cup of tea. I'm only arguing against the result. In the end, it's not my home. As long as Sonja, the homeowner, is happy that's all that matters. I'm simply saying the wallpaper does not work and instead of complaining about it I offered a more persuasive alternative.
